I wasn't the biggest fan of the trial and errory combat. But the vibe, music and style of everything ranges from memorable to really really good. Deserved the love it got imo.
The trail and error combat forcing you to meticulously learn every corner and movement fit the plot perfectly. Right up there with Darkwood forcing you to lose vision when looking into your inventory. Perfect gameplay and story connectivity.

It's the opposite. Drive got the look from HM.
>The trail and error combat
It's not trial and error. You're both morons that have no idea what that word means.
>Loads more characters, some with unique mechanics >More complex story >Difficulty jump >Looks just as good >Soundtrack is top tier, same as the first >Released editors so players can create and upload more content for years after
Its a great sequel but it does what a lot of sequels do, try to build on the existing foundation.
i swear you could fix this entire game by remaking the level design it's own level editor. the story's confusing at first but it's great when you understand everything. the visuals and music are nice but the level design is such a slog compared to the first one.
Rooms and corridors are too long because most enemies have guns. You have to bait them to come to you by stepping out for a second and hiding again, which isn't as fun as being really aggressive and fast like you could do in the first game.
I still don't fully get the plot even after watching vids and looking at wikis, how does crippling the mafia assist the ending plan to kill 2 presidents? Brainlet here btw.
The goal of 50B was to end the Russo-American Coalition and start another war against the Russians
In HM1, the mafia was very well built and had heavy influence in the criminal underworld and due to the coalition, there were lots of russian immigrants going to miami and they usually join the mafia which means russians are gaining more influence on america
Colonel doesn't want that because he's pissed about how the war ended with USA getting nuked and feels the american politicians betrayed the country so he's doing the work himself
Mafia being dealt by Jacket with greatly lessens russian influence and worsens diplomatic relations which causes the presidents to meet, the event that the Colonel was waiting for and planning by having a bunch of nuclear bunkers already prepared over the country
After Miami gets nuked, the colonel is presumably going to take power for himself to run the country as a dictator using 50B for martial law and then fight the russians again
That's actually helpful for getting my tumor infested brain to get it. If only the majority of vids claiming to explain it weren't just pseud-ing for 30 mins to 2 hours lol.
I'll honestly never know. The ai is too random for the game to be great. You can die, then do the exact same thing with a different result. I'm pretty slow at games and it took me a little over 5 hours to beat the game, and then beat it again getting all the secret squares.
It does kinda give you the feeling of being in an action movie, and that's cool. But the game is an 8/10 at best for me. No where close to one of the top 100 games all time.
The fact that it's never exactly the same is what makes it good anon. You can have a plan, a good one, but if things don't work you have to improvise. Man makes plans and God laughs. Those moments of panic when things don't go right are awesome.
>tight, polished gameplay >amazing music and visuals, was the primary reason that neo-80's craze ignited in the 2010's >doesn't shove its story in your face, layers of lore hidden in the details
It's one of the few 10/10 games ever made, for me. It accomplishes what it wants to do perfectly and isn't held back by any glaring flaws. Absolute masterpiece.
It does what most games essentially fail to do when reinforcing the consequences of failure: restricted tactical thinking.
You die in Ultrakill. You respawn and then pull off some different bullshit combo that room wipes before you speed off.
You die in DS. You're put back several rooms/areas/days of progress and have the choice to either slog it and try again or grind your ass off.
You die in Hotline Miami.
You die in Hotline Miami.
You die in Hotline Miami.
You die.
You die.
You die.

You never get better. You just get smarter.
In the last decade since its release there has only been one game besides its sequel that has done what HL has done, down to the style and execution.
Katana Zero.
It's why it and HL have a special place reserved in my mind's shelf - they're the best representation of what violence is.
Do or die. And they aren't mutually exclusive.

You're absolutely right. That fast turnover gets the mind going quick
I was reading/watching some old reviews from big gaming magazines and nearly all of them contained reviewers being supposedly shocked by the "gore" ("This game is FRICKED UP!"). Was this a journalist-exclusive reaction or was the average Indie Gamer of 2012 really shitting his pants at red pixels?
i like hurting other people
High rating?
Fun, fast-paced, high octane, visceral combat. You know, the complete opposite of the dogshit sequel
Complete opposite to journo darling dark souls and dragons dogma 2.
> Hey! I LIKE SOULS SLOP 120412945251
> Being this new.
Hm2 is fast-paced, high octane and has visceral combat if you are good at it
the OST is really cool
never played game didnt realize i heard its OST so many times
>game has 11/10 music
More games should do this.
It's really fricking good.
It's not an OST it's just a ST
Try playing it and see for yourself
I did
Dropped after an hour in
Cant believe I was going to buy it for Xbox
>xbox
you need to be 18 to post here
Why shouldn't it be?
it's fun, it has a great soundtrack and a great aesthetic, it pretty much ticks all of the boxes that a game needs to become a modern classic
I wasn't the biggest fan of the trial and errory combat. But the vibe, music and style of everything ranges from memorable to really really good. Deserved the love it got imo.

It's the opposite. Drive got the look from HM.
Drive is a 2011 movie. HM is a 2012 game.
What are you implying?
HM came out later. So Drive was the inspiration rather than other way around.
Those two things don't track.
Same as I feel now.
You're REALLY bad at videos game.
>pretending to like objectively bad games for clout on an anonymous image board
How moronic do you even have to be?
>Posting obvious b8 on Ganker
No, I don't believe it's you're genuine dogshit opinion OP
how would you have felt if you hadn't eaten breakfast this morning?
Black person the devs said they where inspired by Cocaine Cowboys and fricking drive.
>I wasn't the biggest fan of the trial and errory combat.
>The trail and error combat
It's not trial and error. You're both morons that have no idea what that word means.
>he played the game wrong
Ok??? Aaaaaaaand?
its fun
because it's good homie
Because it's good, and is inspired by Drive
what kind of moronic ass question is that? zoomer shocked that a game can be good?
What went so horribly wrong?
Nothing, and the fact it continues to filter people is my favorite thing about it
>How do I press shift????
>Loads more characters, some with unique mechanics
>More complex story
>Difficulty jump
>Looks just as good
>Soundtrack is top tier, same as the first

Its a great sequel but it does what a lot of sequels do, try to build on the existing foundation.
Nothing, it's a great game and good sequel.
Not enough Miami Mutilator
t.pardo
Btw why even Pardo couldn't reload guns? He loves guns

nothing
roguelikes are gay
i'm too old to tolerate permadeath
Nothing, it's great.
Way too fricking long. Lots of devs make the mistake of thinking more content == better game, but they're 500% wrong.
The first game was perfect in every way. Second one went overboard.
I want to feed the duckies.
Because it looks cool and is carried but it's visuals and music. But it's made by a moron in game maker and thus feels like shit to play.
Just play OTXO it's better.
at the time, there was nothing else like it.
Good gameplay, music, and lore.
Graphicsgays never recovered
It's a fun game with a great soundtrack and really fun gameplay. Not sure what else to say.
2 isn't that bad, but not the great
There are too many windows and dodge roll sucks and fat guy with gun
other things are better than the first one
Because it is good
Great game
Shit sequel
Gay OP

Looking to get your fifteen minutes of fame, huh?
troony colors

I won't let the gays take rad 80s neon color scheme from me. I won't.
Do you think Biker survived the nukes? He was the only character not shown dying at the end and I doubt he stayed around in Miami for another month
Yeah, and he roams the wastes of the post-apocalypse Mad Max style.
Dear diary, Ganker had shit taste again today
