1. I don't want to have eye cancer from the radiation
2. Obviously fake Remaster vs. Original comparison
The dumbest part about all of this shit is how people insist that CRT is somehow better than modern displays. Its not. I dont care how much difference it makes in 30 year old games since that is literally the only thing it has going for it. If you arent playing a bunch of ancient shit that was made by people that knew what they were doing then CRT will always look like shit. The only reason *some* older games looked better on CRT was because the designers went through hoops so that when the shitty blurry oversaturated CRT display showed something it came out not looking like ass.

HD consumer sets do this you colossal fricking skin tag. There is no image processing on a professional multiformat display. Fricking have a nice day Black person.
I had CRTs and I don't miss them, and I love how you homosexual CRT pushing con artists pretend every CRT was exactly like the high end ones that you could get for much cheaper nowadays. They weren't. This is like saying all LCDs are like the 240Hz 1440p ones with 100% or near color accuracy and that are way faster than the average one.
>I love how you homosexual CRT pushing con artists pretend every CRT was exactly like the high end ones that you could get for much cheaper nowadays.
What does this have to do with retro games objectively looking better on CRTs.
Do CRT Black folk honestly think their version looks better? Between the muted colors and the glare it’s impossible to see anything. They’re probably the type that just thinks everything new is bad.

I know that this is a joke, but I've always thought that the argument for CRT was stupid. The games usually used as an example had their art style designed to accommodate CRT monitors, of course they look better on them.
>CRTs are bad because the first six generations of video games look better on them due to the games being designed around that technology
What do you think people are using them for you braindead mongoloids?
Maybe those autists should stop spamming a bunch of dumb shit over how they are superior displays all the fricking time so the real smoothbrains dont just start thinking they are actually good. Its spammed and talked about so goddamn much that the real morons out there legit think that CRTs are a better tech in all ways. The fact is CRT is shit and will always be shit except for a tiny fraction of uses that only the cream of the crop rainman tier autism care about.
Someone has to fricking tell the truth and not just jerk off about retro games.

Then you don't need one and you answered your own problem. People use a CRT specifically for playing ancient shit.
They exist, you clearly have very little knowledge on games. They also typically looked terrible beyond 480p and you were generally better off with 480i on a CRT although some GC and Xbox games looked pretty good in 480p and above.

I know they exist, the very reason I wanted anon to go look for them is that they're not only not very numerous, but often make sacrifices to reach something only resembling an actual high def resolution. Games on these platforms are much better enjoyed on an SD TV.
S-Video looked the best but you could only get them via their website which no one knew about so they're expensive now. For GameCube there's a fan made HDMI mod that looks pretty good and doesn't have any lag
Gamecube pretty much implemented an official digital video mod for progressive scan. The component cable port connected directly to the frame buffer and the cable contained the DAC.
You're getting a ton of hate but you're right. CRTs have two benefits and neither of them are absolute image quality. Yes, old games designed for CRTs can look much better on them. And yes they have effectively-zero input lag. But otherwise an LCD or OLED mops the floor with them.
I like how some lunatics are starting to say we should go interlaced. At that point we're not just reinventing the wheel but deconstructing the wheel so we can choose worse options.
He’s getting a ton of hate because people only speak highly of CRTs because of that ONE benefit, playing old school games on them, because they objectively look like trash on HDTVs even with the best modern converters like a Retrotink. I assume it must be because youre moronic zoomers who have never seen SNES and Genesis and even PS1 and 2 on a CRT TV that you’re arguing against an imaginary point that literally no one is trying to make. No one is saying that they’re superior televisions you buffoon.
One of the big reasons gaming sucks now is because people normalize and assymilated inout lag becsuse of the big flaw that modern techonology brought upon.
On CRT format, NO LAG. and DONT listen to those degenerste liars telling you that old hardware on old tvs had lag too, that is just more postmodernist revisionism.
I remember my LG CRT gave me eye strain after prolonged use, on top of how those pieces of shit were massive and loud. Frick CRTs and the gays who pretend flat screens aren't a godsend. >oh no not my pixelrino games
If you're that much of a homosexual just put a filter on top
I know that this is a joke, but I've always thought that the argument for CRT was stupid. The games usually used as an example had their art style designed to accommodate CRT monitors, of course they look better on them.

AHHH, sitting down playing some good 'ol retro vidya on a $1500, 119lb. Sony Trinitron PVM-20MU Studio Monitor used in commercial settings like CCTV, video production and other professional settings...
Autism. The small screen size completely undoes any benefit of the high quality pixel density.
I'm not allowed over my friend's house after laughing at his wife for buying one of these to play SMS games on.
Trinitrons were just Sony's proprietary tech in their CRTs that's considered the best of its era. It's not Trinitron specifically that carries the hefty price tag, it's the PVM monitors.
They made tons of redisdential-grade Trinitron TVs which are perfectly good for CRT gaming. But obviously, the commercial-grade Trinitron PVMs were built like tanks and are much more expensive amd heavy.
None of the tubes are being made anymore, I think the last plant making them, Toshiba, closed some years ago, and the number of people who can even repair the devices is so few, that really all CRTs are on a deathclock.
The PVM is slightly better, but I really don't see a point in buying consumer grade CRTs unless you want to play light gun games. Emulation is good enough for everything else.
I already have like four TVs and I'm too lazy to find space for a CRT. I only play Saturn and Dreamcast really so OSSC and VGA respectively on an older HDTV are good enough for now.
Brightness suck, my android tablet is like twice the brightness of my crt tv and crt monitor, they also have ABL like oled so shits get even darker after a while. They're not sharp, crts are flawed with imperfections which need tons of calibrations (convergence, focus, geometry, etc) and it's never 100% perfect. They tend to glow, kinda similar to fald but better. They have good motion but's that's just because the beam refresh in the khz while lcd/oled is tied to the framerate and refresh. They do make good retro gaming screens however.
>limited to 4:3 >limited to 480i >would take up more desk space
it is so much more convenient to use a retrotink with crt filters. only upside is that you can stack shit easily on a completely square crt but mine is convex.
>you didn't grow up with a PVM
Actually, yes, I did. My dad got a Sony Trinitron BVM from work in the late 90s and gave it to me because it was smaller than the TV they wanted for their room. He thought it was just some weird TV with a bunch of buttons.
i do, earlier this year I found an old CRT that was originally the family TV when i was a kid, hooked up my old PS2 and on it and I've been trying out old vidya I originally never had the time for
it even has a vhs player installed and works well too, been rewatching old family videos with my parents on the side
life is good anons, I wish you all well
Make a digital copy of those VHS tapes before the tape degrades more. The only surviving videos of my grandparents were thrown out by my aunt before I was old enough to know to make copies of them. Inconsiderate fricks will destroy things because they only think of themselves and family tapes look just like old junk to them.
My grandparents did this with old family video tapes when my dad was in his teens and such. Just up one day they decided to throw them away for 0 reason with no digital backups even though they are essentially a time capsule in physical form.
Wish my dad didn't throw out the 32" JVC, worked perfectly good he just had an autistic fit one day about there being too much junk and for some reason channeled all that anger on one particular TV walking past the dozen unused bicycles in the garage to grab it and throw it in a bank's dumpster.
Don't have one and for some reason they're expensive as frick now, meanwhile people used to throw them out or give them away for free when the flatscreen meme hit.
I'm not paying out the ass for a 20-something year old used shit that used to be free, give me a reasonable price and I'll consider it.
Too bad, because the usual suspecst are already infiltrating and shitting it up for us, you can usually tell them out by the faces they make on their thumbnails of their videos.
I don't have autism
PS2, Xbox, Gamecube or older - CRT
PS3, 360, Wii or newer - HDTV
Nothing autistic about it, really.
>Wii
Connecting that to a modern display is a fricking meme, the thing is still Standard Definition and looks best on matching TVs.
Enjoy your flickery 480i, you dont.
damn, CRTs look like THAT?
Shut up sameposter, this, is what CRTs look like
now show me what sakura's panties look like
Wow, CRT sure does look really good, too bad my LCD monitor I use to look at this picture can't compete with it

Not even the same picture. Shit thread.
Where can I get a 1920x1080 CRT bros
I cant find any
Intergraph Interview 28HD96.
Sony FW-900 if you want 1440p.
So you're aware, those high definition digital CRTs have more lag than LCDs. They might be good for watching old films but gaming? No.
if you're playing RPGs youll get the most out of it
>lag
HD consumer sets do this you colossal fricking skin tag. There is no image processing on a professional multiformat display. Fricking have a nice day Black person.
I do. Sadly my PS2 is having that laser reader band issue.
Look into FreeMCBoot OPL for the PS2.
Those are two different games
you are incorrect
It's crazy how much uglier games were on CRT screens. Boomers were so unlucky.
I obviously don't need a CRT since these are filters that work on the LCD montior I'm using right now.
you are correct
>CRTs are just manlets coping
lmao CRTgays btfo
why would I want a piss filter on my games?
because you prefer them on your face right?
The PSX' dithering is such a magical effect.
What game??
Front Mission 3
What are some good CRT filters? The ones that I've seen only draw dark lines.
CRT Royale XM29 Plus. It's the one used in all of these:
I had bad news dudes
The actual gamepic probably didnt look that pixelatex.

Because I don't exclusively play old games.

The PS2 isn't ancient
I don't get how people think GameCube and PS2 were made for composite video on a CRT. Both of those consoles optioned HDTV+Progressive Scan video.
Now show me the games for those platforms that went beyond 480p
Gran Turismo 4 could output a 1080i signal.
who care the internal res is still dog shit
They exist, you clearly have very little knowledge on games. They also typically looked terrible beyond 480p and you were generally better off with 480i on a CRT although some GC and Xbox games looked pretty good in 480p and above.

>The PS2 isn't ancient
"When the PS2 came out, was the Atari 2600 a retro console?"
"Yes."
"The PS2 came out in 2000. The Atari came out in 1977. That's a 23 year gap. How many years has it been since the PS2 came out?"
"Only 22 years, so it's not retro."

>Whats the fricking point?

They make them as big as 20-22", but the price these days gets ridiculous. Most small ones were 5-7" for mutliple analogue CCTV feeds

Why are Trinitrons worth ten trillion gorrilion billion? Were they made in such limited numbers or is this nostalgia cope price inflation?
they look a lot better than a "normal" CRT.

what's the actual source on that and did they do Castlevania III as well?
wtf is this image? The top one is just the pixels why are you putting the filter on the HD version????
My 20" PVM vs my 4k monitor with a shader.
The PVM is slightly better, but I really don't see a point in buying consumer grade CRTs unless you want to play light gun games. Emulation is good enough for everything else.
Because yours is a shitpost from diffent versions.
