Kino VN though not perfect. There are somethings I would have changed to make it more like classical literature. 9.6/10 Shakespearean story. Phenomenal music and atmosphere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJuTjfa_lnM&list=PLYkQ7yVe1sT3cbxSt0uXsOGP204KVdzVf&index=2

Umineko stands so far above the rest that it ruined the entire medium for me and I say that as someone who has read easily over 100 VNs.

I played some of them, so far:
    Forest > Baldr Sky > Sekien no Inganock > Muv-luv > Wondeful Everyday > Umineko > VA-11 HALL-A > Fata Morgana > Muramasa > Steins; Gate > Kara no Shoujo > Saya no Uta > Hanachirasu

What else is worth playing? I don't care for Pheanix or Fate, that shit is too normal for me.

Sharnoth if you liked Inganock's style.

I liked its style, but more than that I like experiencing works of fiction that are different in style to what I've experienced before. Variety is the spice of life. I'd rather experience the best dish from every country in the world than the 200 best dishes from my favorite country's cuisine.

Fata Morgana, Muramasa, Muv-Luv, Steins;Gate and yes, Umineko too, are so far above the rest that I just assume that you really like to suck wiener.

They're good, just not as good as Forest.

          Anonymous

The reason the Umineko fanbase seems "anal" to you is because it's literally the only VN ever written that can compete with proper literature.

            Anonymous

I don't see that as a reason to be "anal" though. I like "proper literature" and I know several people who do. They somehow are able to go about their life without acusing people of preference for fellatio because someone has has different taste in books than them. After all it ultimately is a subjective matter.

              Anonymous

True enough, but in that case you would at least rate something dumb but extremely fun like Muv-Luv or Steins;Gate higher, which you also didn't do. So the question of you being a homosexual fiend is still an open one.

                Anonymous

The question remains just as open when posed to you, yet I fail to comprehend its significance. Furthermore, I am perplexed by the notion that the subjectivity of taste would automatically lead to me evaluating the visual novels I have experienced in the manner you seem to presume. Have you even familiarized yourself with "Forest" in the first place? I also hold reservations about your capacity to assess what can or cannot meet the criteria of proper literature. Such discernment necessitates a certain level of intellectual maturity. Given that your response to encountering someone with dissimilar preferences involves attempting to demean them by insinuating their sexual orientation, my confidence in your level of maturity is rather diminished.

I have a fondness for puzzle-driven narratives, although I lean more towards the abstract ones rather than the straightforward variety. These abstract narratives not only prompt me to ponder "who did it and why," but also encourage me to delve into comprehending the overall backdrop, reality, and essence of the storyline. What truly resonated with me was how the visual novel maximized its medium. The narrative's understanding hinged on extensively exploring every narrative branch, often leading me on delightful tangents. The resulting chaos was remarkably enjoyable.

Moreover, I'm naturally drawn to stories that exude a surreal ambiance, and I find myself captivated by artistry that is highly stylized. The novel's inventive use of diverse characters from British literature, albeit presented through a distorted mirror, added an intriguing layer. Many of these characters were dear to me from my childhood reading, and it was immensely satisfying to witness how their inclusion was cleverly justified as the game's mysteries gradually unfolded.

In essence, "Forest" is a whirlwind of eccentricity, peculiarity, and amusement, creating an experience that I can only describe as delightfully wacky and weird.

Oh, and thank you for sharing your recommendations. I'll definitely give them a look and carefully consider them.

I checked this out for the meme since I'd seen it spammed here enough to get curious, and was surprised by how funny and genuinely heartwarming a lot of it was. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect when I started it, but it wasn't getting invested into a 12+ hour long family drama which also seems to be a giant shitpost about western porn games in general.

To me it's simply to experience a story. If you have a story you want to experience why does it matter what's the medium? It's not like each story ever created somehow magically gets an adaptation for every medium. If there's a story only available in VN form I ultimately have to go for that.

vns are a creative way of tricking anons into reading at a middle school level for pleasure. all it takes is a few still reaction images interchangeably laced along side the text, with around 20 generic anime backgrounds, and you can convince an idiot to read a "book".

its funny because vn elitists look down on Normals using emojis etc, but that's rly all vns are, a bad book with elaborate emojis linked to each line of dialogue.

Fata Morgana is too goddamn long and the repetition really soured my investment in the characters who at first were charming and then became grating. I never made it through Requiem, I was so fricking sick of the medieval timeline.
