Why did modern culture ruin everything from the Modern Times DLC onward?
You had people referencing culture and events from the actual Cold War period in 4 and then... everything became braindead television and gamer memes. I know 'Allo 'Allo was also braindead but it wasn't "Haha zombies" or "Haha Bioshock" or whatever was in 6 (never played, looks like they referenced 2 again, a lot).
Don't understand why no-one's making games like 1 & 2 anymore. They both have antiquated design so aren't competition for modern games and the only problematics things are that one admits fascists existed in the 20th century and the other is less sexist than we are today despite having only female prostitutes and only male lumberjacks. 🙁
Because each education level only has few professions that are unisex. They probably decided to cut making models of both sexes for all professions. And since they did that you had to balance the professions so each level had jobs for both sexes.
It's a balance issue.
Since some jobs are only for men, some jobs need to be only for women.
And while for teachers or cooks or caberet dancers, it checks out. They need more high level professions to give women value for college education.
So all engineers in Tropico 3 and 4 are women.
As well as Journalists.
The fact is that nobody appreciates the satire of tinpot south american dictators. Those who do care about communism view Castro as a hero that did nothing wrong, and those who hate communism don't want to role play as such. So all that's left is to make stupid Trump references and turn the game into a Dr. Evil simulator.
I love communism and I still enjoyed these games. Despite the jank and the cheap feel it has in places what always captivated me especially in 3 and 4 was how politically incorrect they were >you fart all the time, bonus relation with Arabs >background as a holocaust denier writer >ushanka wearing, kgb installed, moscow university graduate that puts half his population in labor camps to produce sugar that we export to the eastern bloc so they can poison Americans with diabitus
This shit will never be made today
You do realize most south american dictators were opposed to communism, right? I'm Hispanic American and it's just a satire of the political landscape of Iberoamerican dictators during the early XX century and the Cold War. Banana Republics, US backed dictators like Batista, Plan Condor, etc.
It isn't exclussively Communism.
4 is better. >Excellent campaign >Some new interesting mechanics >Better writing and characters
though the music in 4 is a big downgrade. Though that might also be because I've listened to the 4 soundtrack way more because that's the one I play the most.
I love Tropico 4. All I do is put all campaign missions on hold and buy multiple wine factories till I get millions amd sweep the obejctives.
4 is better. >Excellent campaign >Some new interesting mechanics >Better writing and characters

>though the music in 4 is a big downgrade.
Then you hit 5... then 6... and then you remember all this bad music is still better than a lot of games get and even most pop latin people listen to daily.
So tell me anons, do you actually try to commit corruption all the time to try and get a higher score in your Swiss bank account, or do you actually try to optimize your country to be as good as possible where your population it's at least happy to be living there with almost next to no corroption?
I just try to give everyone jobs and fulfil their wants.
The game doesn't really feel like it's built around corruption or even being a dictator when housing, christ and healthcare is an on-off button that's cheaper than even a dangerously underpaid military. Unless I'm doing something wrong.
Why do you think the new reincarnations are bad? The last Tropico I've played was 1 or pirate about 20 years ago, and I wanted to play something like this.
Tropico 3 and 4 stand apart from most city builders in how it's built on a grid-based system. Instead each building or placeable abject has it's own radius.
So what means is that you don't to worry if you build a town with a little bit of empty space left over, you can fill that space with gardens, fountains, small buildings, statues, or DLC decorations. All of which actually provide in game mechanical use outside of just being decorations.
Plus Tropico 4 added to that by having an amazing campaign mode with a story connection between all of the missions. (missions being the best way to play Tropico as it allows the player to move on and start anew after they've mostly completed their initial challenge and built a stable island)
Tropico 5 and 6 went to a strict grid based system. Good bye interesting cities, or unique city building mechanics, welcome the same shit that fricking every other game in this genre does.
The campaign in Tropico 5 sucked ass, and Tropico 6 outright removed it.
None of the new mechanics are interesting, sometimes the new mechanics just suck. Like how now you have constant uprisings despite being mostly popular just for no reason at all.
The rest of the new mechanics, when not bad, just are boring.
Also the music gets worse after 3. Being still good in 4 and taking a downslide from 5 and on
Tropico 6 still has a campaign, and, unlike 5, doesnt just reuse the same handful of maps. Its recent expansions have also added several-mission campaigns instead of just a singular new map to abuse the one new building
6 doesnt have as many uprising problems as 5, but factions can be more finnecky about securing elections.
>Tropico 6 still has a campaign
?
Well is it a story campaign or just a bunch of different missions?

the maingame campaign is just a bunch of unconnected missions, while the expansions have a more story-focused sequence to them
1 year ago

Well that's something.
Still the story and writing were some of the most fun parts of Tropico 4 and even 5.
Tropico 5 has the big problem of having the player switch between two islands which maintain their buildings.
Which seems cool, but just messed with the progression of the game, and also caused other problems.
>None of the new mechanics are interesting, sometimes the new mechanics just suck. Like how now you have constant uprisings despite being mostly popular just for no reason at all.
Is that 6 or 5?
Because you can cure them in 5. It seems to be entirely faction happiness, which is difficult to manage when you reach the cold war for all the plates you need to spin and especially after all relations are reset between eras. If you pick the constitutional reform that encourages protests (they don't seem to appear otherwise) you seem to get a better chance at stacking +opinion quests for factions you're not willing to align with, though protests are a very, very annoying mechanic.
I don't think foreign relations matter provided you never place a DLC spy building and happiness seems to be only for votes which are seemingly minimally affected by faction happiness.
So tell me anons, do you actually try to commit corruption all the time to try and get a higher score in your Swiss bank account, or do you actually try to optimize your country to be as good as possible where your population it's at least happy to be living there with almost next to no corroption?
>do you actually try to commit corruption all the time to try and get a higher score in your Swiss bank account
there's no point to swiss bank score. maybe if a percentage of it carried over OR special diplomacy/domestic actions/units could only be carried out with money from it there might be a reason to. but since basically all actions just take the price out of the tropico treasury, there's no point.
sadly my autism doesn't allow me to play anything but a benevolent honest tyrant, even when factions are being annoying little shits. Is playing as a corrupt bana-tator fun?
Swiss account is an interesting feature but with a stupid application, 5 gave a much better utility but still not even close to what it could be.
Since the most recent ones have republic and democracy shit, swiss money could have been used to bribe politicians our buy palaces for ur dinasty, but I doubt they would ever do such thing.
When I'm growing my economy, no. All profits go back into expanding faster and further.
Once the economy is up and running my people get food, jobs and entertainment. Just enough to keep the majority happy.
After that though, the corruption commences in full. After all getting personally rich beyond belief is why I'm doing all of this in the first place.
It is a simple truth that a fully developed and stable economy is far more profitable to skim off of then trying to squeeze a fortune out of a couple of banana plantations or bauxite mines.
Could you fix lategame teamster deadlock by deleting all the useless jobs or would you die to rebels/social security payments and still have everyone clogging the roads commuting to nowhere?
Teamster deadlock is pretty awful in the latest one with all the islands. Though you do get workarounds (cargo planes). At the basic level under the hood tropico needs a lot of work.
I hope Tropico 7 expands the military aspect. I've always wanted to invade other islands. Building an aircraft carrier is just a defensive building in like one or two maps where you get mass waves.
tropico is a easy, laid back economy sim where you can beep some boops and watch el numero go up while you listen to some banger latin tunes. its great for a hungover sunday or something
i made the biggest mistake of my life of after playing 3 and 4, buying 6. i legitimately thought the game was broken or something. the game's economy barely functions it doesn't make sense
literally babby's first citybuilder but yes it was extremely comfy back in the day.
same reason as tropico 1 and 2, perfect soundtrack
rebel-chan

I never knew why power plant in 1 NEEDS university educated females ONLY.
I'm the Prez, where I can get some equality?
Because each education level only has few professions that are unisex. They probably decided to cut making models of both sexes for all professions. And since they did that you had to balance the professions so each level had jobs for both sexes.

Yeah, the real problem is not even ideological, it's just nobody wants laugh at actual satire anymore - they just want safe inoffensive gruel.
>I love communism
have a nice day
t. underage wehraboo
t. ATF troon
have a nice day, red scum.
Thanks.

>He played Tropico past the release state of 4
You did this to yourself, you have nobody to blame
I love Tropico 4. All I do is put all campaign missions on hold and buy multiple wine factories till I get millions amd sweep the obejctives.
real presidentes have to make do with crappy cigars and strip mining their islands
a wine snob pinochet? unheard of
Tropico 5 was fun you stupid ape.
4 is better.
>Excellent campaign

Hola peasants!

I've done short runs in the original. 20 year reign, full on corruption and dictatorship. Eat shit, feed my Swiss bank account.
>do you actually try to commit corruption all the time to try and get a higher score in your Swiss bank account
there's no point to swiss bank score. maybe if a percentage of it carried over OR special diplomacy/domestic actions/units could only be carried out with money from it there might be a reason to. but since basically all actions just take the price out of the tropico treasury, there's no point.

Its just some pointless hiscore. Only bothered for the achievements iirc. I did full on corruption for fun though.
At least in the later ones theres stuff you can use your swiss bank account for iirc?
Swiss account is an interesting feature but with a stupid application, 5 gave a much better utility but still not even close to what it could be.
Since the most recent ones have republic and democracy shit, swiss money could have been used to bribe politicians our buy palaces for ur dinasty, but I doubt they would ever do such thing.
like any sensible dictator i made sure to maximize the island's economy and shot anyone unwilling to send their 10% to the big guy
When I'm growing my economy, no. All profits go back into expanding faster and further.

Teamster deadlock is pretty awful in the latest one with all the islands. Though you do get workarounds (cargo planes). At the basic level under the hood tropico needs a lot of work.
it's part of the appeal. you're emptying the treasury, and you workers only work when there is nothing better to do. everybody is on their own grift
or was it 20%? either way, building permit was a great policy, really incentivized every tropican to pull together
I hope Tropico 7 expands the military aspect. I've always wanted to invade other islands. Building an aircraft carrier is just a defensive building in like one or two maps where you get mass waves.

Wait, I got 4 because everyone told me the series went to shit after it.
6 is alright
