Iirc the lore is that Mario 1 is a movie, Mario 2 doesn't exist and Mario 3 is the stage play of the Mario 1 movie. Might be wrong.
It's all wrong, Mario 1 is entirely set in the MK, Mario 3 is set across different kingdoms with the task being to save the kings, princess is only kidnapped at the end. Mario 2 is set in a dream world, TLL is a Mario 1 retelling set in a bizarro world.
