Why is there still not a single good monster collecting game that isn't Pokemon?

    I find SMT fun
I'd be more into Pokemon if it was focused on having a party of monsters out rather than just 1v1's. Yes, I'm aware there's other battle types but they're not utilized enough for my tastes.

There's no money to be made in competing against Pokemon. Time and resources are best spent elsewhere.

For a game that has story in the title the dialogue was the most dull shit ever and the story from what I played didn't seem promising.

because pokemon suspension of disbelief is on thin ice on a lot of topics that are pretty much unacceptable if you look at them separately or without nostalgia googles
see you in a couple of months when this is asked again for some reason

      >beast imprisonment not being cruel
      >even though most pokemon are sapient and some even are more intelligent than humans, they have no cultures or civilizations or actual means to fight back pokeballs. do humans have specialized forces to fight back for racial supremacy? is it cruel to capture a pokemon just to have them fight against their own kind? would it be cruel for pokemon to capture humans in humanballs and force them to fight against each other?
      >pokeballs mind bending pokemon without consequences, as they turn into your wienerfight slaves after being catched (would this be emotionally tortuous if the pokemon was aware? did they have a family in the wild?)
      >children are allowed to travel the wilderness at the age of 10 without parents being afraid of them fricking dying (they should be pokemon hunting with adults and in big groups)
      >what the frick is storing pokemon in a pc or pokeball?
      >is there a need to fight at all?
you dont even need to answer these things directly but then again, it doesnt seem to matter as long as the gameplay is fine, which is funny because pokemon's gameplay is also fricking terribly dated. its truly a product of childhood, and it will be a product of the next generation's childhood too.

Pokemon figured out the formula perfectly on its first attempt. There is no need for any kind of replacements or alternatives. Not to mention Pokemon designs are just iconic (Temtem/Theythem is the worst offender), most nu-monsters are overdesigned garbage or constantly palette swapping like this is an RPG or something.

Unironically temtem. Co-op from start of story to end of story. Fun times and wasn't handholdy like pokemon.
