Astels are an entire species. You fight a bunch of adolescent Astels in the underground (the ones hanging from the ceiling) and a bunch of larval Astels app over the map (Falling Star Beasts).

Astels are the terminus of the Fallingstar Beast's lifecycle. Sometimes they fully grow in space, sometimes they crash to the Lands Between as juveniles.

The more interesting question is why is Astel purported to have destroyed Nokron when it's fully intact? And how did they get that Astel all the way down beneath the Lake of Rot? Why was Astel brought all the way past the Lake of Rot anyway? Seems like a logistical nightmare.

falling star beasts are baby astels? wtf? how did i miss this?

What made it click for me is that the tails are exactly the same. But more concretely, you can see an Astel's head crowning out of an adult Fallingstar Beast's head.

Both the Astel and Mature Fallingstarbeast have an anti-gravity AOE move where they lift their heads up, cast it and levitate everything around them and slam it back down. Both have identical color patterns and pincers.

You see the equivalent. You see it's actually upside down and its legs are growing out of the "snake forehead".

The Astel has one eyeball in the middle of its had, peeering through an opening that just happens to look like a broken skull.

The human eye sockets and teeth are just mimicry
                >That doesn't make biological sense!"
It's an alien cosmic space monster anon, its resemblance to "Mad Man's knowledge" from BB is supposed to invoke a since of Lovecraftian horror.

                >it just looks like a major fracture
That's a pathetic cop-out. The problem isn't that it doesn't make biological sense, the problem is that it looks like a broken skull. It's not even an alien skull, just a scaled-up human one. What purpose would it even serve? What's the point? It doesn't look intimidating (it implies it already got its skull caved in lol), it doesn't look scary, it doesn't look cool.

Was From just randomly slapping assets on the front of the model?

                >What's the point!
To be unnatural and terrifying. How would you feel if we came across an alien life form that looked exactly like a human in every way but it was actually a fruit harvested by other aliens to be eaten?

You may go "Well it's weird but it's not a human!" while some creature munches down on it but the reality is you would be extremely uncomfortable.

You're an idiot. ST had mostly humanoid aliens because it was a live action production. ME could have had as many non-humanoid aliens as they wanted (and they do in fact have a handful of non-bipedal, non-humanoid races), but chose to make most of them humanoid for emotional and sexual appeal.

Nah, I wouldn't think so. There's likely some old one sitting out in the void of space flinging it's eggs out, the make landfall, hatch into "star beasts" which then metamorphize into astels; who knows if that's even the end of the life cycle.

It's in elden ring the video game. Its visually represented so a wiki reader like you will never see it. Elden ring filters wikigays hard by having most of its actual lore not in item descriptions intentionally.
Images of the falling stars and astels are shown in thread they are clearly a life cycle of a single species.

There are so many different ways to view it if you want to assume fromsoft is trying to be clever.

There is a cultural and historical related usage of 落し子 which is specifically 戦争の落し子, which refers to children born from Japanese women with American soldiers after the war, and is viewed as humiliation (read this https://note.com/lawrenceyoshy/n/n19c2f8b305b6). 暗黒の落し子 is structured in the exact same way, aka it is 落し子 of a noun that does not represent an individual who can literally bear children, but more like a concept or an event and is something intangible that can have ramifications.

Another possible way is that it is written as a simple play on words. 落し子 has its own meaning as a full word in the dictionary, but it is composed of 2 words merged together and if you wanted you could read them as 2 separate words. 落とす is a transitive verb that has several possible meanings but the chief among them and it's "proper" meaning is to drop something. 子 being a child, baby, offspring, etc. So if they wanted to play on the meaning of the full word vs the meanings of the 2 separate words that compose it, they could have actually just meant something as simple as this is an offspring that was dropped here from above.

I don't think it's specifies what eternal city Astel destroys. It's probably Deeproot Depths. The river from Deeproot Depths also flows down to Ainsel River that eventually flows all the way to Astel's arena. You also pick up the Astel wing sword on the way down

        >It's probably Deeproot Depths

IIRC there have been reports of FromSoft working on another Sony exclusive game, so I guess they're waiting until it releases to remaster/port Bloodborne to the PS5 and PC.

I have no stake in Ganker culture war but if I had to put money on it they could be releasing it to coincide with the 10 year anniversary and have just been quiet about it. Or in reality they dont care much to port it regardless of how much more exposure and success Fromsoftware has received since then.

I want to believe Sony knows full well it's a sought after title on all other platforms and are playing the long game to have it release with some big event and improvements.

But knowing From I think it's more a case of the codebase being absolute fricking spagetti hard coded with stone tablets to only, and only, work on the chips and wafers of the PS4. Reason we haven't heard anything is because Sony even hired NASA rocket scientists and super programmers with brains the size of blimps to reverse engineer it to work on PC/PS5, but there have been several failed attempts and several sucidies over the years of those involved to make sense of it.

Yes, I do believe From is incapable of making things work on anything but static hardware. I was there when Dark Souls 1 and Elden Ring launched on PC.

Because the PS4 has been holding gaming back decades, why would they release their best game on a better platform where it could VASTLY outshine the original release with just a few small tweaks to an .ini file.

            Anonymous

My guess is that Sony mostly cares about vanity and "the brand" rather than simply making easy money. They port games purely to increase exposure to the franchise going forward. The only way they'd ever bother to port Bloodborne is if they're actively making a sequel, which is shaky because even if they own the rights, there would be a lot of backlash if they continued it without From and it would also be more trouble than it's worth to always need to co-develop it with another studio. Bluepoint remake is likely, but even then I wouldn't hold my breath for PC unless Demons Souls show up first.

            1. Spaghetti code mayhapsthoughbeit
            2. Transparent anti-Jap game bias by nu-Sony. Every fricking PC release from Snoy for years now has been only their amateur melodrama cinematic slop. Take into account that TLoU 2 has now gotten 2 releases when The Last Guardian outsold it according to the leaks from a few months ago.

It's a Console Seller game. Lots of people bought PS4 just for it and they'll do the same for exclusive 60fps Remaster for PS6.
They just think that selling enough copies of PS6 because of the exclusive outweights the sales they'll get from porting it to PC.

genuinely what is the hold up? Is it the money men thinking it wouldn't be worth the effort or legal issues or what?

Because FromSoft doesnt hold the IP rights to it, Sony does, not to mention the studio that primarily worked on it, Japan Studio, got dissolved by Sony a year or two after it launched.
It doesnt help that Bloodborne was a console-seller as the PS4 had just launched a year prior in 2014

To put it simply, The lack of a PC Bloodborne release is a tale of greed and sales figures, and if they could, I'm sure Sony would try the same thing with every FromSoft game they could.

My theory is that they're holding on a Bloodborne remaster for launch PS6, just like Demon Souls. It's the only good answer

After all, why would anyone with more than two digits IQ buy a PS6 when the PS5 literally has no games? The answer to that is a BB remaster

Every time I see footage from BB, I'm shocked at how choppy it looks. I never thought I'd be this kind of snobby but it is slideshow tier compared to any other Souls game. At least DeS can be easily boosted to 60fps in RPCS3 and the only tradeoff is the camera panning speed in cutscenes.

They're aliens that physically fall out of the sky, something Radahn was trying to prevent
      They grow from fallingstar beasts
They like shiny things, one of them destroyed the nox city below Leyendell to steal its fake stars (found in its own boss arena)
They don't like anything that is alive
Oddly they seem to use the same gravity magic as the dark elves (onyx and alabaster aliens), but the dark elves are apparently not universally hostile to life since one taught Radahn

Alabasters repel, onyxes attract. Together you can hold something in place. They are a good guy faction and also truly alien so they dont look like they are helping but everything they do is helping and teaching on how to deal with these monstrosities.

They were likely called by the Nox of the Eternal City, who also used gravity magic like the Eternal Darkness. The Nox were using gravity magic to open a portal to the cosmos so they could frick off from the Greater Will but that ended up a two way street for Astel to come in.
The Eternal City got destroyed but the Alabaster lords seem to have stuck around and helped form Sellia along with the Nox remants and the students from Raya Lucaria coming in later to learn from them.

honestly, it makes it more compelling to have the skull. if its JUST an unidentifiable "thing", then its written off as "just a space bug". kind of like the elden beast just being a weird blob thing. by having something familiar and something that we can connect to ourselves, it makes us question stuff. if its just a mass of randomness, we write it off as "just some space bug". does it have intelligence? are we connected? what are the implications? etc etc etc.

        >does it have intelligence?
It's a FromSoft game, so demonstrably not.

It's a FromSoft game, so there's probably no reason beyond reusing assets.

well realistically, yeah. but for people that enjoy autism and putting too much thought into things, theres more potential for introspection and reaction with relatable/familiar features than if it were just some blob thing that evokes nothing.

look at Elden Beast's design, it's clearly a hallucigenia with an astral body like the Nightwalker from form Princess Mononoke.
              >It doesn't have multiple arms and legs
And? It doesn't need to be a 1:1 anatomical representation of the damn worm it just shares a general body structure.

Attack on Titan finished within recent memory, the big reveal in that series was a crystal worm like creature grafted itself to Ymir's spine and gave her the power to transform into a Titan that looks like Hallucigenia composed of human parts.
It's then revealed that the worm is in fact a descendent of Hallucigenia, because when the Mangaka was writing it a scientific breakthrough in fossil studies gave a far more accurate idea of what the worm's anatomy was like hit the world news.

With the concept of the Ring needing a host to create a goddess why wouldn't Miyazacki make the monster look like worm-kun?

If they had to make the assets 100% identical, then why not pretend evergaols contain the dudes souls you fight and be done with it? Since all evergaols are just reskins of regular enemies/bosses anyway. They could repeat everyone once if they wanted if they just called them souls instead of making new OCs that look the same just because.

It's probably left over from when he was just a generic omen. Probably didn't have time to make another fight after he was elevated to Morgotts brother.
As for the lore implication, there's nothing really except that Mohg (and Morgott) try to keep the player away from the Frenzied Flame.

I like to think Omens are naturally capable of projecting/invading other worlds and Mogh was trying to prevent you from reaching the 3 Fingers just like Morgot was trying to prevent you from getting your first great rune.

He's guarding that passage way to the 3 fingers. He's a Margit styled illusion created by Mohg or by Morgott to serve such a purpose.
Him having the title of "Omen King" suggests that before Mohg went off to create his Dynasty he was charged with maintaining order for the other outcasted Omen nobility.

I'll never get why people get so pissy and mad over stuff like Elden Ring containing world building via things like design elements just because they're not directly important to the plot and aren't explicitly brought up. Fallen Star Beasts evolving into Astels aren't super important to the overall plot but it's obviously very much a thing and it's just one of the many things that hint / illustrate at Elden Ring taking place in a small chunk of a cosmic setting where there's shit in space doing crap and how we have to deal with aspects of that.

Well it's not "liking something", it's mental illness. You'd be hard pressed to find somebody as mentally ill as elden ring loretrannies even on /vg/

Claiming a game needs to be talked about for this long and the reason is "this enemy has the same copy pasted skull asset as this one" is pretty demented. Especially when you know both enemies are reskinned bosses from games that came out over 10 years ago

The autism in this thread is a special phenomenon. There is this idea to Dark Souls that Ganker has that isn't actually accurate but became close.

I hate asset re-use but understand that even your biggest AAA games and many beloved classics are going to do it to cut corners if they're able to, especially rpgs. But Ganker pretends like Dark Souls raised the bar.

DaS did a really good job for its first half. It uses enemies sparsely, some even only encounterable once or twice. The game places great emphasis on item location, npc location and even tries to integrate its game mechanics into the lore. Undead being canonically immortal to explain bonfire revival, Time being convoluted to explain multiplayer and the ruinous post apocalyptic setting devoid of bustling rpg ubisoft towns to set the cold, lifeless and empty world of AA videogame design as something natural.

This of course, all goes to shit with the second half with even them shamelessly re-using Pinwheel without explanation, but what it created was this obsession thats been used to shit on every future From installment with the exception of BB (which does it pretty badly in Chalice Dungeons)

If you look at most modern media people consume its all completely absent of any underlying theming or thought. Marvel slop designs are the most surface level thing imaginable, and shows/films don't really try to "say" anything anymore. So when a series actually does those things people don't even notice. Then they assume the people who do notice something that isn't literally spelled out to the audience are just making it up for some ulterior motive, like social media points.

Both of them are in caves.

They should've made a Rot boss to put there. It makes no sense why you're in the place where the Outer God of Rot was sealed, then you take a coffin down a waterfall (of rot) only to end up in a place that's entirely devoid of rot AND houses an alien

Mother Albinaurics like Ophelia (Lattena's big sister).
Their thrones are integrated into temple structures and judging by the fact that they're simply dead and it would be difficult to leave those structures, they likely couldn't walk or move to begin with, much like Ophelia who is seemingly forever comatose.

Nox society was built around taking silver tears and giving them permanent form as a means to play god and create basically anything. At their peak it's likely most of their population was artificial.

Hell if you look closely at Claymen you'll see they have mercury in their backs implying they're the most ancient attempt at creating homonculi from silver tears.

anon, in case you didn't notice, all mines i nthe game are on top of meteors!
And the arena of said mines is the meteor crater.

likewise, meteor craters can be seen near some alabaster lords.
and craters in the overworld have falling star beasts in them.
this is so fricking heavily shown that you literally get a crater in mt gelmir after you beat Radahn who was holding them back.
Not to mention the ?nox? cult monks who do a T pose near quite several alabaster lords and meteor crater sites signifying that there is a freaking meteor related creature nearby

then you have an astel in a mine in CONSECRATED(not concentrated you moron) snow fields with all its miners FRICKING DEAD, and an alabaster lord guarding it.
