How do you make chemical bolts work without burning grenades to cluster grunts? The explosion is so delayed that it misses the horde half the time even if you stick the first one in the pack. It seems impossible to consistently it to hit anything in MP since other dwarfs will draw aggro too.
The explosion and taser bolts are genuinely awful. The only proper overall redeeming quality of crossbow is Pheromone bolts, really. Thats one of the issues i complained about in

I'm also a bit disappointed at the devs themselves. This game was insanely well optimized but it had a ton of downgrades in that department as of late, my potato keeps crashing. They also permanently made the inputs, input buffering and animation cancelling worse with their engine update.
The general design quality and balancing decisions the devs have done season 1 onwards have also been getting worse and by a lot. New shit is still very fun but its infested with the issues the devs struggled hard to mitigate and eventually mostly (mostly) remove from old weapons >genuine dogshit new weapons at base, except one or two overclocks singlehandedly redeem it >generic -ammo downsides >-ammo downsides on overclocks that encourage spending more ammo >completely unbalanced mod choices >balanced/unsatableoverclocks that are very generic and don't actually change the overall gameplay of the weapon, which when paired with boring mods, can create weapons with only 1-3 proper different playstyles (ex coil gun)
At least cryo bolts and trifork are decent, and Firebolts can do some work in modded hazards with 39423423 bugs together, IFG and burn spread.
Taser sucks most of the time but it has a niche where it can invalidate Dreadnaughts and bulks if you stack bolts and slow them down to nothing. They're going to nerf that into the ground though since its probably unintended behavior and actually fun. For all other scenarios they are terrible. You have setup time and find a tight space otherwise bugs will actively path around the lightning. The slow and damage isn't even strong enough to actual do anything either.

The microwave emitter has a decent build with flames, I'm not sure about the sludge build. It's alright for swarmers and maybe fliers, but not really as versatile as other options.
The crossbow isn't that great, but it's kind of funny. Bodkin is like nukies, triple shot is like shotgun, your other options are pretty damn bad.
Driller's rail gun thing is kinda shit but it has at least one viable build with trails and triple-shot.
Your opinion is valid. I'd like to see more guns that are well, GUNS shit like the sawn-off shotgun, while good, don't have anywhere near enough design space to justify 10 or 12 overclocks.

I only drill to pod if it's nearby horizontally and it would otherwise require a ton more effort to run. Vertical caves with ziplines I just go back cause it's more fun and dangerous.

This is the only acceptable use of driller in pipe missions because it's maximum autistic efficiency, but it really only applies when all of the jacks end up in the same-ish direction from the station and roughly the same height.

The enemy variety is absolute dogshit. They haven’t added new bug enemies in over a year. It’s fricking over. I’m dropping the game if they don’t add new enemies in the next update.
They just added a new enemy this season. And 2 new enemies + 3 turrets + 1 miniboss + 1 major boss LAST season. Convenient you had to qualify it with "bug enemy."

I'll concede that the robots are less satisfying to kill, since you can't see their armor falling off and they don't have nearly as many death animations as bugs.
It just really sounds like people want tiny variations of enemies that either shoot from range or march mindlessly toward you to attack and nothing more complex
What I dislike about robots is that they're ranged enemies, they're tanky, they're really mobile, deal a bunch of damage if you get unlucky and elements interact with them awkwardly. AFAIK Cryo literally does nothing to them (not even slow them down) and fire is either nothing or an instakill which I find to be kinda annoying with the flying ones.

Sticky flames for nemesis is dodgy and doesn't always pay off, if nemesis is off the ground then it's best to use your sidearm/axes for his weak spots, or c4.
You don't NEED a facemelter build to kill a nemesis handily but I might try one out for rival presence warnings.

like, you basically burn through your already meagre entire ammo reserve in one wave and have to spend double the time setting shit up just to kill a few bugs more than your gunner who actually has the means to murder them

How do you make chemical bolts work without burning grenades to cluster grunts? The explosion is so delayed that it misses the horde half the time even if you stick the first one in the pack. It seems impossible to consistently it to hit anything in MP since other dwarfs will draw aggro too.
The explosion and taser bolts are genuinely awful. The only proper overall redeeming quality of crossbow is Pheromone bolts, really. Thats one of the issues i complained about in
At least cryo bolts and trifork are decent, and Firebolts can do some work in modded hazards with 39423423 bugs together, IFG and burn spread.
Taser sucks most of the time but it has a niche where it can invalidate Dreadnaughts and bulks if you stack bolts and slow them down to nothing. They're going to nerf that into the ground though since its probably unintended behavior and actually fun. For all other scenarios they are terrible. You have setup time and find a tight space otherwise bugs will actively path around the lightning. The slow and damage isn't even strong enough to actual do anything either.

with that said i dont really care about these threads anymore, its mostly just muh shilling arguments and dogshit takes on balance/builds (even moreso on a game where everything works and anti-fun tryhard sweating on vanilla difficulties is a sign of being a shitter). Shit gets popular, community gets worse, every time.
I'm also a bit disappointed at the devs themselves. This game was insanely well optimized but it had a ton of downgrades in that department as of late, my potato keeps crashing. They also permanently made the inputs, input buffering and animation cancelling worse with their engine update.
The general design quality and balancing decisions the devs have done season 1 onwards have also been getting worse and by a lot. New shit is still very fun but its infested with the issues the devs struggled hard to mitigate and eventually mostly (mostly) remove from old weapons

The microwave emitter has a decent build with flames, I'm not sure about the sludge build. It's alright for swarmers and maybe fliers, but not really as versatile as other options.
The crossbow isn't that great, but it's kind of funny. Bodkin is like nukies, triple shot is like shotgun, your other options are pretty damn bad.
Driller's rail gun thing is kinda shit but it has at least one viable build with trails and triple-shot.

My only gripe is drilling to pod, I won't complain or anything, I get why they do it but it's more intense just fighting your way up (or it would be if running past spawning bugs wasn't so trivial outside of really cramped areas)
I always join as driller on refinery so I can make modern art sculptures out of the pipes.
Engie is the superior choice for pipe art.
1) Plat stalactites or other hanging geometry
2) Build pipes upward toward jack
3) Delete plats
4) Enjoy nearly bug free aerial pipe art to fight on

I only drill to pod if it's nearby horizontally and it would otherwise require a ton more effort to run. Vertical caves with ziplines I just go back cause it's more fun and dangerous.

This is the only acceptable use of driller in pipe missions because it's maximum autistic efficiency, but it really only applies when all of the jacks end up in the same-ish direction from the station and roughly the same height.

The enemy variety is absolute dogshit. They haven’t added new bug enemies in over a year. It’s fricking over. I’m dropping the game if they don’t add new enemies in the next update.
They just added a new enemy this season. And 2 new enemies + 3 turrets + 1 miniboss + 1 major boss LAST season. Convenient you had to qualify it with "bug enemy."

I'll concede that the robots are less satisfying to kill, since you can't see their armor falling off and they don't have nearly as many death animations as bugs.
It just really sounds like people want tiny variations of enemies that either shoot from range or march mindlessly toward you to attack and nothing more complex
What I dislike about robots is that they're ranged enemies, they're tanky, they're really mobile, deal a bunch of damage if you get unlucky and elements interact with them awkwardly. AFAIK Cryo literally does nothing to them (not even slow them down) and fire is either nothing or an instakill which I find to be kinda annoying with the flying ones.

The driller is best equipped for dealing with robots in my opinion. Just bring a flamer and turrets explode after being tagged, and your axes can cut flying bots up handily.

A sticky flame build (which is what you'll be running anyway if you're running the flamer) melts nemesis so fast that damage doesn't matter.
Sticky flames for nemesis is dodgy and doesn't always pay off, if nemesis is off the ground then it's best to use your sidearm/axes for his weak spots, or c4.
You don't NEED a facemelter build to kill a nemesis handily but I might try one out for rival presence warnings.

Hyperpropellant is the best option to deal with anything, not robots in particular. Those ten robots/nothing in particular are dead as frick.
the beam weapon with the heat mod is 100x better than hyperpropellant. It also helps that it actually has a decent ammo pool

The beam weapon is too clunky for me, it has way too many disadvantages compared to a good sniperpropellant launcher

Killing a bot with heat damage is just a bonus. It's not at all required, you are just complaining about a shortcut.
Sticky flames is great for bugs and is overkill for turrets. You can speck out of sticky and into, say facemelter for direct damage.
