        No. There's nothing at all wrong with original even by today's standards. UI is keyboard heavy, but easy to learn, and graphics are quite charming. Dosbox and set up upscaler properly, that's all that's needed.

        Original might LOOK obtuse, but isn't.
        Remake might LOOK accessible, but isn't.
        The big difference is that the original is only "obtuse" when it comes to controls, while otherwise making perfect sense. Meanwhile the remake has modern set of controls you might be familiar with from the get go... and everything else is done under the hood, without any proper manual or shit explained anywhere.
        Go for original. And don't be a moron, simply pirate it, that game is older than you.

    When I was learning MoM, I took it slow. I stuck with pure mages to learn what each color can do, only after that I played with mixed colors.

    Nope. CALCULATING it is difficult (subtracting a binomial distribution form another binomial distribution). Guessing is actually easy, as the variance is much lower than in modern games.

      i know game is classic but it really isnt popular cause its old af and its hard to distinguish between units on modern screens, if it got released few years later so the graphic didnt look so archaic had higher sprite resolution (similar to homm games) it would be on every 4X tier list today.

    sword go up good
    +10% hit good
    big lots sword and +10% hit very good
    shield go up not so good because you can't raise it's block chance

    Everything is actually a dice roll and without large amounts of stacking buffs on your units the conclusion to any combat is in the air. Expect pikemen to be mutually annihilated when attacking swordsmen.

    This is what makes lizardmen so good as their +1 to figure hp requires enemies to do double damage to them.

    so i found out theres 1.31b and 1.60 community patch out which for some reason was not included in gog release, it adds a lot of bugfixes and QoL changes (customizable keybids, map generation options, ability to switch between towns etc)

      atm im playing 2nd to highest difficulty on community 1.6 patch which improved AI logic considerably. Its exactly the same.
      >AI comes to my island relative early and drops great drake(!), wrath with other shit to take one of my nodes i couldnt yet take myself cause of insane defense.
      >If you attack a lot weaker stack AI will dump spell on and flee without way to respond
      >constantly shits out doom bolts or other dmg spells on your heroes, they are impossible to keep alive without magic immunity
      >if you dont have means to kill flying units when its weaker it will just wait 50 turns instead attacking in melee
      Higher difficulty seems unplayable unless your are 5 star general at the game and god at power gaming, thought that beating normal difficulty meant i know how to play now, i got reality checked yesterday.

          That's better, yes. At least, I can play PvE with minimal conflicts with AI, and they usually cast something like wind mastery and just cause till midgame, instead of world-frickery like armageddon or great wasting. Or I was lucky, and AIs hadn't managed to research such spells.

      yes just have to do some changes in dosboxMOM.conf file, you are able to set any resolution to window, personally i play full screen with hq3x scaler, but with black bars so its not stretched.
      Just google how to configure dosbox for mom and you will find plenty of help.

    Amazingly fun game, but very difficult. Biggest problem I have is that some of the races are just way less fun to play than others compared to a lot of other games like this where almost every race is interesting and fun in its own way.

    Fun game. One time I summoned a great wyrm and that unit alone won the match for me. Gave it water walking, some protection spells and it alone went and razed every city on the map
