You need more practice. Seriously, just keep doing laps and trying new lines that you'll get a good time eventually.
Remember to use some time delta display to see where you can improve.

You may be treating it as too much of a simulation actually, you need to abuse the limits of the game engine if you want alien-tier times in sim racers. That said, a 14s gap is a lot, it could be attributed to a really really shitty setup, but more likely you're off the racing line and you're not at the limit.

Laguna is not the easiest of tracks either, it might be good to take a mid-tier car and try Donnington Park or something similarly easy, see if you can get to within 2s or so of a 'fast' time.

Track driving is unironically easier to learn irl though, even if just in karts. They don't exactly translate onto racecars but you get the basics that way.

so HOW THE FRICK are these times even possible?
I can get being 5, even 8 or 9 seconds slow because I suck and I'm not using assists, but a 1:43???

I really think you're mistaking rev matching for double clutching, but assuming you're not, you should definitely google around on how to rev match right. Double clutching is a way to keep everything in your gearbox spinning at the exactly same speed when you push the gear in If you're double-clutching, you're pressing clutch -> going neutral from gear -> releasing clutch -> rev up -> clutch again -> gear in and rev onwards. If you're doing that, just try skipping clutch release step, you 100% don't need that in simulators, you don't even need it in any modern car unless you bought a shitty ruined gearbox like I did because synchros will do the job for you.

So, try pressing clutch -> revving up and gear in -> releasing clutch. Faster, easier (once you get it right), leaves you more time to keep the car accelerating. Other than that, feel free to post a catbox video of your lap, i'd be happy to try to identify some clear mistakes that should be easy to fix if i'll see any.

        >double-clutching, you're pressing clutch -> going neutral from gear -> releasing clutch -> rev up -> clutch again -> gear in and rev onwards
that's what I do when I need to be take a corner and be completely sure I don't spin, otherwise I just do the normal heel toe

Buddy, have you tried learning to drive? Even with a peaky car and a shit setup, you should know your grip.

In pretty much every racing game, controller users are the ones setting the best lap times. Hell there are even people using the fricking keyboard setting respectable times.

Just ignore it and work on your own personal bests. I use a seat and wheel setup and yeah controller users can still beat me, but frankly I am wheel to wheel racing within inches of cars and avoiding contact, like someone who truly enjoys motorsports does.

If you actually track your car, racing games are fun to hone some skills but honestly nothing can replicate the g-forces and stress on you when you are in a session, so it can be hard to truly get 100% perfect if you've trained yourself to go within the limits of real life.

When I play forza I can tell the people who use the wheel because we are always right on each others asses and trying to race clean, some of the most fun can be had in mid-pack battles.

I'm an iRacing gay, but to get on pace I need to watch a hotlap of someone else driving. That's the fastest way to get close, rather than just guessing.

the frick jank ass games do you play. Any real sim will favor wheel.

lol that's moronic. You're probably fricking up your rev match when you heel toe. If you're actually doubleclutching, that's probably half a second lost for each braking zone you're doing that useless shit

assetto? carefully set up car, assetto defaults to ridiculous tyre pressures and more often than not you get >0.5bar off the desired tyre pressure when you use defaults

    >double clutching
in racing sims? shit's pointless and takes time, i sure hope you mean rev matching. i can double clutch and i do that because synchros are pretty much gone in my used shitbox, but i'd never do that in racing sims

You're just ass. The problem with AC is that it's hard to see your deltas on a turn by turn basis, ACC is a lot better for this but driving GT cars makes me want to die because they're so soulless and assist heavy.

You've got to know where you're losing time, which if you're 14 seconds slow, is fricking everywhere, your line sucks and you're not abusing the track limits.
