I was thinking of getting into Yakuza. I heard that 7 is a good game to start with because it's got a new protagonist that was in prison during the events of the previous games so they introduce concepts as characters as if you're a new person experiencing them for the first time. I also don't mind that it's apparently an RPG. I guess my question is, if I start from 7, can I play all subsequently released games without issue, or do I still have to go back and play some older games to understand them?

        Anonymous

y7 is a new running story because of the new protag so it's a good entry point for players. y8 is a bit problematic though, given that it has kiryu wrapping up his story, it loses a lot of emotional impact if the player don't know the back story.

          Anonymous

I see, so I guess the hope is that I'll like 7 so much that it'll make me want to go back and play all the old games instead of just keeping up with the new ones. Which is fine if the games are good, it's just that it seems like a lot of games to play and I'm guessing they aren't short. So for now I'll just play 7 and then see which way the wind takes me.

No it reminds how moronic its kiryu still there after 6

a few of the earlier characters makes apperances, but they are relatively minor, and you dont need to have played their games to follow and apreciate LaD.

Only pirates get mad at Denuvo and DRM. Pay attention the next time you see someone b***h and cry. They're a crybaby pirate every time. You don't deserve shit. CACA. You morons think companies are bad when all they want to do is protect their game from being stolen. It's a bit silly, but look at where we are...

I think companies are bad because they make shit products and make them even worse with drm

Except Denuvo impacts the performance of the game for paying customers too. Here's the thing, pirates don't care about Denuvo because when the game gets cracked it removes Denuvo. It's only paying customers that have to suffer through the bullshit Denuvo brings. So if you support Denuvo, then enjoy the hell of your own making.

        Anonymous

On the contrary, these anticheats only hurt paying customers and lower the value of games.
I have to deal with a shittier game, sometimes even unplayable on something like Steam Deck all to be reminded that my money isn't enough and that some corporate piece of human garbage wants another yacht he isn't getting out of whatever I'm playing.
Pirates will get the game without denuvo anyways, they'll just have to wait, but people who do that sort of thing are already accustomed to it.
These things don't have no cost, they come at a cost of goodwill from the consumer, if I'm being punished for pirates existing and being treated like one why the frick shouldn't I join them?

An extra level of "frick you" to the consumer. Doesn't Denuvo literally rape online services too like this? Didn't Payday3 try to sneak it in before launch and had to remove it because it make multiplayer unplayable?

        >Denuvo
Somehow we have found a way to become more dead-on-arrival. Impressive.

Why does every homosexual assume this game's future flop status is based on DRM or the heckin' microtransactions? It was never about your disingenuous crusade against game ownership. The game will flop because it simply failed to connect with its core audience. Rocksteady fans wanted Arkham-like gameplay and instead we got Fortnite goyslop. Stop hijacking our mob.

Also there was a copypasta about someone who spent thousands of dollars on Empress but then Empress banned him when he tried to buy Empress' underwear, and Empress actually confirmed this was true in the usual broken English way. Which kind of blows my mind, here you have a guy who is actually willing to spend thousands of dollars on you and you just lock him out like that. I don't get how someone could turn down such an easy opportunity for free money.

Expect empress hasn't cracked anything since Dead Island 2 or was it Resident Evil 4. It's been well over a half a year since she has cracked anything.

              Anonymous

Huh, it didn't feel like that long. It's crazy how rarely I actually want to play games that have Denuvo, almost like there's a correlation between the use of Denuvo and the game not being worthwhile.
Looking into it I'm seeing something about Empress laying low after some doxing incident or something, so I guess it's the same thing that shuts down most pirates, eventually someone finds them.

On the bright side it does seem like this is pushing other people to take a more active role in cracking Denuvo. I imagine that eventually someone will have a breakthrough and piracy won't be so reliant on one person. In the meantime, I've got plenty of DRM-free games to play.

They changed their model some time ago i guess. Many games remove Denuvo now after a certain amount of time so i guess it might be more expensive to just keep it in the game for long?
Some titles like Monster Hunter Rise kept it forever but thats a game that constantly got updated and only removed it recently because of Capcoms Enigma bullshit.
Which is funny cause Enigma gets cracked within hours/days unlike Denuvo.

        Anonymous

No, that's the thing, MHRise's Denuvo was removed exactly two years after the game's release. They buy a license for Denuvo for two years and then get rid of it because it's too expensive to be worth it after that point. They know Enigma isn't going to stop anything but I guess they have to put some DRM on the game to please investors.

          Anonymous

Nah, Enigma was a recent brainfart due to the whole modding thing.
This also happend with other titles that haven't been around as long
          >Ghost Trick remake has Denuvo
          >only been out for a few weeks

            Anonymous

Well, hopefully they learn their lesson that trying to stop modding is not worth the PR hit. But it's Capcom so I can't say I expect that.

These companies need to realize that Denuvo, and DRM in general have such a bad reputation in the gaming community that if you take a hardline anti-DRM stance, you inspire an army of supporters who will say "Holy shit! Everyone needs to buy this game!" And it's not just talk. The thing the best-selling games of 2023 have in common? No DRM.

        Anonymous

We know Denuvo's model from leaked Crysis remastered information. Back in the old days it was just a single fee (AAA games 100k, AA games 50k and indie titles 10k) and you got to keep the protection forever. That's why games like Handball still have it.

However nowadays the dev has to pay a 140k fee for the first 12 months of protection, 60k extra fee if the game sells more than 500k units, 10k for each storefront, $0.40 per activation on wegame platform. And lastly once the 12 months is up the dev has to pay 2k per month to keep the Denuvo. That's why most games drop Denuvo after the first year nowadays.

  17. 5 months ago

    >Denuvo right before launch

Ohhh they REALLY wanted to piss off people didn't they? That's a good way to do it, as if the game wasn't already facing tons of negativity and bashing, and now they added Denuvo right before launch. It's like they want the game to fail despite pushing the release back an ENTIRE YEAR.

Remember that? It got delayed for a YEAR, and it still looks mediocre, and I'm sure it STILL has a battlepass that everyone complained about.

      Anonymous

A battle pass in a paid game is stupid, but something interesting I saw is that the battle passes are permanent so they won't be taking advantage of the usual FOMO, "buy this pass now or you'll never get the items again."
It's just weird because it shows they understand one of the problems people have with battle passes, but simultaneously don't comprehend why having a battle pass at all is unwelcome.

I actually would have pirated it if it was a single player game. It's weird that they gave the actual Arkham sequel to a different dev and then gave an always-online game to the Arkham dev. Well, supposedly this game is actually going to have an offline portion added post-launch, so we'll see if that actually happens. I still might pirate that, since I don't see why I wouldn't be able to once it gets cracked. Unless the game bombs so hard they don't bother adding it.

I'd like to think its all just bait, but its depressing how many corporate sycophants there are for copyright cartel bullshit, not the least of which is denuvo. As others have said, its massively stupid to do so for a mostly-online game that can just do online checks, but its rather extraordinary that the devs seem to be doing every possible thing to make the game sound shitty. I'm kind of hoping the game is amazing just to see how they could dig themselves out of the pit of bad design, bad plot, bad mechanics, bad monetization etc... and everything else it appears

Then again it may be just another "so long as we get normalgays who want to shoot superman and a bunch of stronk waman harley quinn empowered types, as well as DC hardcore multiverse gays it will do well enough" sort of thing, sadly. Still, denuvo seems a waste of money but so does almost everything else involved with this game's development

I saw someone claiming that there was a leak that said you don't actually kill the real Justice League and it's just clones or something made by Brainiac. I don't know if that's true or not, I hope not because how stupid can you be, you're selling a game with the premise that you get to kill the Justice League only to tell people you don't get to after all? Even worse if it turns out to be a late game plot twist or something, I can't think of any way to write that which doesn't come off as a "frick you" to the player. So I hope it's completely false.

This is what passes for optimization to zoomers, remember this next time you're complaining about 150GB games that run like shit and look made for PS3.

It's a process running on a CPU. I don't care if the performance hit is 0.000001%, you are not getting it. Your israeliteware will not touch my PC, I will never even pirate your garbage game even if it gets cracked. I will however tell all my friends how shit your game is.
      >b-but you didn't play it
      Yes. You can't stop me.

I mean, if you're gonna let it mindbreak you that badly then go ahead I guess. I just wanna play videogames.

The less people play it the easier it will be to turn it into a tax write-off

    Please just cancel the game.
I know Rocksteady is a shell of their former self and very little, if any, of the people who worked on the Arkham series are still there, but I don't want to see them die like this. Especially since this was Keven Conroy's very last role. Let the man and the company die with some dignity intact.

When has a game ever been completely canceled this close to release?

Yeah, this was a massive waste of development time, but it didn't even make it to beta. Suicide Squad is coming out this week. It's too late to back out now.

It had a beta (that nobody played even when they were handing keys to everyone) it was canceled just a month before release.

        Yes, though technically anthropomorphic sharks.

This is moronic. There must be some corporate bullshit behind it. I'd be pissed as an investor

There's a fricking maintenance now for early access players. Because some players were somehow getting max loot and 100% story completion upon logging in. lmao.

Empress' homophobia worked to my advantage because she would go out of her way to specifically crack games with gay shit in them to "stick it to them". As a result, I, who have no problem with that stuff, got to play and enjoy those games for free. Now that won't happen anymore because Skidrow decided to chase her away. What a shame. Oh well, at least there's dozens of gay indie games released every year on GOG.

Suicide Squad? More like Suicide Studio. Tick tock, Rocksteady

Why did they name their studio after one of the bad guys from Ninja Turtles?

Damn they're really taking the Payday 3 route in fricking up their game as much as possible.

    >comic cape trash that should've stayed on Ganker
    >ironic and snarky subversive humor
    >70 dollar price tag

Wanna add anything else to the pile?

I finally watched some of that special for Christmas, literally the first like 15 minutes of it or so is just the wookies wandering around their house making noises and watching TV. Normally something like that is reserved for a pretentious art film. I have no idea how it made it all the way to completion without anyone saying "this is a bad idea."

Oh, and to actually answer your question, there's also a review embargo for the game. You know, the telltale sign of "We know the game is so shit that we aren't allowing people to review it until it's out because the bad reviews might dissuade people from buying it."
