Why was John Romero so obsessed with creating a first person fantasy game when the Heretic and Hexen games already existed?

Yeah I know and he threw fit and left the company when they wouldn't make Quake the fantasy game he wanted, then he goes and makes Daikatana.

Working in a gas station was really enjoyable. To the point where, if I ever become so rich I can retire I seriously have thought about running a rural gas station.

buy your own or whatever how it works, license your own. amaranth does it and it makes a a frick-ton of money right now. she literally just earns a frick-ton of money while doing nothing, while some poor fricking wagie is forced to work at her gas station making shit pay, so she can chill and watch as the boucoup buxx roll into her bank account.

      Just like blackroom right.

I dont think he has it in him. Ion storm proved he isnt a good leader, and a project like this would need a strong leader that can handle both a team and an overall vision.

        >Just like blackroom
Exactly this. I thought that after he failed to get funding with 3 concept art drawings he was going to come back with a teaser and actual gameplay? That was years ago now and he hasn't said shit since, he wasn't just lying and trying to scam some quick money from fans was he???

          >he wasn't just lying and trying to scam some quick money from fans was he
I think its an honest but weak guy. Ion storm was basically him not firing problem people and not putting his foot down on making people work. He was successful in a small team of highly motivated self-starters and carmacks autism driving games to completion. In fact, he was the counterbalance that would step into carmacks room to tell him to ease off on the employees.

I'm 99% sure they just realized that the idea of Blackroom was probably not gonna get them the money that they wanted, even with a demo.

    >John Romero is screaming his support for trannies and homosexuals in video games
    >John Carmack is headlining a convention called BASEDcon and speaking out against social justice in video games.
Will these frickers ever agree on anything? kek

To be fair, Romero still makes cool wads while Carmack does nothing but make bad games and useless peripherals, so I guess I chose trannies this round.

it's really hard to make a hit, for some reason. just because a studio make a hit or even three hits in a row, that doesn't mean they will continue making hits forever. remember that gangster game romero made a year ago? yeah. real "legendary developer" shit right there, eh?

Because "Quake" was a fantasy RPG concept they'd been stewing on, from their D&D sessions, long before Doom 1, Heretic, or Hexen were even made.

No it wasn't. They made Quake 2 after he left and went full sci-fi with it.

Because "Quake" was a fantasy RPG concept they'd been stewing on, from their D&D sessions, long before Doom 1, Heretic, or Hexen were even made.

I forgot about Ultima Underworld which came before Heretic and Hexen. Whatever Romero wanted to make probably would've been more like that.

I wish the guys game a shit about gameplay and maps more in Quake 2. Carmack only cared about engine work. Didn't give a shit about shooting feeling, guns, maps.
The expansion and Call of the Machine shows immediately how iD didn't give a damn about the game as a game.

The future of FPS are extraction shooters
All these mentors and foundind fathers fail to see it even today because they were only hobbyist nerds with expensive computers and technology
