johto isn't the best at anything and 90% of the mons in it are worthless.
everyone just remembers HGSS which was after platinum tried to salvage the gen 2 shitfest with a bazillion new evolutions like mamoswine and yanmega. gen 2 at the time of its release was mediocre at best. probably the single worst roster of new mons before the abominations of the switch games.

anon, most of the mons found in johto are kanto mons. half of the mons in johto are either nothingburger baby forms or postgame exclusives. half of the good mons attributed to johto are evolved forms introduced in gen 4. you didn't play the games.

a lot of gen 5 mons were designed to be analogues to gen 1 mons, but were balanced very poorly to the point they utterly invalidated older mons. conkeldurr invalidating machamp is probably the most high profile example. gen 5 has a lot of these pointlessly redundant designs.
Unironically, it's because Pokemon was at its lowest point in terms of relevancy. Less franchise oversight and more time to make products meant weirder, better games.

I get why gen V is hated but the thing is that these shitmon were way more fun to use compare to the older shitmon. they had fun moves and stat gimmicks that gave them some utility if you got stuck with them. I personally don't find gen v as ugly as other people say either

thing is all the older mons got those utility moves too. things like flame charge, scald, etc. ppl only feel this way because the gen 5 movepool was bigger while limiting pre-gen 5 mon availability to the postgame. no one that played bw2 extensively has this opinion because the game didn't cuck you out of pre-gen5 mons.
well yeah I'm comparing generations not just the pokemon themselves. I grew up playing ruby and emerald but going back before the special and physical split sucks because so many pokemon don't have the stats that compliment their type and are just a pain in the ass to use
that goes the other way around too. lots of mons benefitted from before the physical/special split because they got access to things like elemental punches. very notable for mons like ampharos and typhlosion which have otherwise mediocre movepools even in the modern day.
I agree, and the theory that everyone's favorite Pokemon game is the one they grew up with and therefore have the most nostalgia for is bullshit because nobody cares about anything past gen 5 and that gen 5 is argued about means it's good but not good enough to trump the vast majority of people saying HGSS and Platinum were the best games in the series. Man I remember being so excited for diamond after putting an ungodly amount of time into gen 3 and then actually playing it and hating it so much. Honestly it feels that everything i hate about gen 4 has permeated through the whole franchise and it never recovered.

Zoomer, out of all of these, BW1 aren't on the same level. In fact the correct rating is:

That being said, all of these are better than anything released from Gen VII onwards. Say whatever you want about XY, but I think it was a very solid jump to 3D despite Gamefreak's usual shortcomings. (Supported all existing pokémon and megas were a great addition)
