Project Aces has been working on 8 for a couple years now. 8 is definitely going to happen, but I personally think it will be the last. There are a bunch of things I desperately want in 8 or future games (That are truly good, just trust me bro.), but I don't think most of them will happen and 8 will be the last and I will be left with a second hole in my soul until I die.

I don't think the lack of ideas would be a problem for a long time. They could do a lot with Ace Combat because it's not based in real life and pretty crazy to begin with. I just think 8 will sell that well. Nothing to really back the feeling up, I just don't have much hope because most people don't like this kind of game and Bamco is a souless corporation that wants to make at least 500% profit. Hopefully Project Aces controls their budget better than Kojima would and focuses on cooperative experiences over the dead pvp that most people drop after a month (if not after 4 matches). That way DLC could sell a bit better and be a more financially interesting project for Bamco in the long term. Low effort cash streams are what they want, which is why Infinity is what really allowed 7 to exist.

Microsoft basically paid for Ace Combat 6 because they made a hard push for the Japanese market the first few years of the 360. So PC is the only remote possibility. Besides that, it's probably not going to happen unless they make it free (fat chance in hell) to get around aircraft licensing.
Also there were only 4 coop missions (2 were DLC), so there isn't much longevity despite being really fun.

Gameplay and mission structure-wise it's a very good imitation, but the story and dialogue are absolutely soulless.

They're really brought down by the fact that the feud between Crimson 1 and Monarch isn't developed well at all and thus doesn't feel very high stakes at all, especially considering that you've already dabbed on the guy twice (3 times if you manage to run his entire squadron off literally by yourself in the refinery mission)
Also who tf gave this obviously schizo dude a plane with Cordium nukes, rapid fire/cluster railguns and the armor to withstand 200 missiles?

For me it's how they had one named enemy squadron in the entire main game, then decided to put like 6 in the first DLC mission.
It was obvious they had really hit their stride with the work on the DLC, so here's hoping they ride that wave through AC8.

Unexpected Visitor is an unmitigated masterpiece of direction and game design.
        >opening cutscene and its score are overwhelmingly hype and well framed as a return to Ace Combat from the base game
        >mission opens with established plan immediately getting thrown out due to support being 5 minutes late
        >enemy aircraft opening dialogue dives into kino without hesitation: "Just 4 aircraft? They've got some wienery nerve! Come on! It's time to fight a REAL fighter pilot!"
        >glamrock aside, enemies call out your actions throughout the fight, even interact with your squad members (huxian gets a fiery exchange at one point)
        >your enchanters show up before the "5 minutes" that was called out, implying they rushed to get there due to the work you and your team are doing
        >white knuckle melee suddenly interrupted, turns into a boss fight when Rage and Scream show up out of nowhere, with the music ramping up with them
        >fight is fast and they're fended off, back to the mission, which is pretty much over and successful
        >the apocalyptic unicorn then comes to life, destroying the fleet you've been protecting
        >planes lift off from its deck, music changes again an begins ramping up
        >"intel says one of the planes is carrying a WMD!"
        >you as the player take off immediately, and your team acknowledges it in the dialogue
kino kino kino kino these missions needs a warning for how much kino they contain

The amount of dialogue variation/throwaway lines that react to what you do in the DLCs is insane

      >SU squadron commander just cooly responds, "roger that, leave the rest to us", and engages
i hope with all my heart the time they're taking for 8 allows them to put more moments like that into the game. the enemy belligerents being real, competent people makes these games legendary

For me it's how they had one named enemy squadron in the entire main game, then decided to put like 6 in the first DLC mission.
It was obvious they had really hit their stride with the work on the DLC, so here's hoping they ride that wave through AC8.

The concept of a bunch of boomers in F4s wanting to go out in a blaze of glory was gigabased
I also really liked the SU-57 squadron where their flight lead chews you out for shooting down their youngest pilot
I really need to play through the game again

same with the guys that show up from another sortie with only gun ammo left

Went in completely blind I didn't expect it to turn into a shonen manga complete with a fight crazy pair that keeps chasing the MC cause they want some good time. It's weird cause the main story is relatively grounded, then they let loose completely in the DLC.

They were the ones who did the cutscene animations for 7 IIRC, I'm guessing they're just being brought on as a support studio so PA can have a more hands on role with cutscene development

Didn't the Ruskies don't care whenever people use their stuff when it comes to media depiction? I'm sure they'll be okay with it.

I hope AC8 plays like Project Wingman, the plane movement in Wingman feels good and fluid in comparision with AC7, I don't care if it's not realistic at all but it feels good and for the love of god please get rid of the weather missions, they are not fun in any way.

No one who cares about realism play these games. Especially plane realism autists, they get mini heart attacks everytime your plane makes a slight unrealistic movement.

PW takes a good amount of inspiration from 6 regarding gameplay.
Now if only the SHOOT mechanic would come back. The special beep you get when executed correctly is amazing sound design.

I literally don't give a flying frick about anything other than a multiplayer akin to Infinity. With how godawful the multiplayer was in AC7, I'm going to be livid if they don't give us something worth half a shit this time around.

I played AC7 a few weeks ago out of impulse for wanting a new game and something a genre I haven't touched. I think I played some Star Wars games years ago with similar mechanics to AC but I don't remember what it was.
Anyway I digress, I played AC7 with their new controls and found out I more or less played the wrong way. Yeah it kind of helped but I know any of the older AC games will have such controls or any similar games. So with this in mind, what game should I go for next?
