Project Aces has been working on 8 for a couple years now. 8 is definitely going to happen, but I personally think it will be the last. There are a bunch of things I desperately want in 8 or future games (That are truly good, just trust me bro.), but I don't think most of them will happen and 8 will be the last and I will be left with a second hole in my soul until I die.
7 was such a huge success they got full funding and backup for 8
https://www.frontlinejp.net/2021/12/11/new-ace-combat-project-and-the-future-of-the-series-discussed-by-developers/
I don't think the lack of ideas would be a problem for a long time. They could do a lot with Ace Combat because it's not based in real life and pretty crazy to begin with. I just think 8 will sell that well. Nothing to really back the feeling up, I just don't have much hope because most people don't like this kind of game and Bamco is a souless corporation that wants to make at least 500% profit. Hopefully Project Aces controls their budget better than Kojima would and focuses on cooperative experiences over the dead pvp that most people drop after a month (if not after 4 matches). That way DLC could sell a bit better and be a more financially interesting project for Bamco in the long term. Low effort cash streams are what they want, which is why Infinity is what really allowed 7 to exist.
Congratulations, you played on easy/watched a lets play. All of the other games feel on-rails compared to 6.
By the way, come up with something more constructive than empty arguments a PETULANT CHILD would make mainly to keep a thread bumped. It's boring.
I recently played Space War Attack and while it was a shovelware ace combat knockoff, it featured aliens + massive kaijus. I wish AC would try some more absolutely outlandish shit like that
>planning on buying this game >check one of those walkthrough youtube videos to see what is it about >skip through it >half the pilots/characters are either black or women
So much for the "based" japs
Would you be content if I told you that you might be blind and every AC game has one black man and one woman per story so regularly that they're basically the token cotton-picker of an old sitcom?
it's only been four and a half years and it sold over 4 million copies as of last year
if the 12 years between 6 and 7 didn't kill it I think the series will be fine
lmao no, the only reason 5 and 6 got ports for PS4 and Xbone respectively was a loophole that didn't require relicensing the planes
Its backwards compatible and mostly emulatable (Music is a little borked and cutscenes are completely borked). None of the old games are going to get new releases because of licensing costs.
>Assault Horizon kills the series >Spend 7 years making AC7 >Have to scrap almost everything and finish the game within a year >It's still good >Spend another 4 years working on the next game >Nothing to show >The only thing that's actually coming out are shitty skin DLCs for AC7
Why is Project Aces so fricking incompetent? They probably fricked up and ended up in development hell again when all the fanbase wants is the same game over and over with shinier graphics and a different story.
Honestly I don't even know what the gazillion new skins and planes for. I guess multiplayer? I tried it and it's just the same thing over and over again. Can they at least add a new series of missions?

ac8 is taking its time because of the moronic war thats in europe right now. i imagine getting plane licences isnt as straightforward anymore. "our planes need to have better stats than their planes" or "you cant show a scenario where a terminator destroys an eurofighter in a dogfight". it's all incredibly petty.
It would be perfect to have it be a full co-op mode for 8, without any fuel shenanigans or stepping on the toes of the single player balance. I miss stealing top scores with the blessed RKTL Infinity had.
Bamco fricking PLEASE port 6 to PS4 or some shit, VR was fricking awesome but I wanna coop dogfight with my buddy and I wanna rip him off of WW2 War Thunder
Microsoft basically paid for Ace Combat 6 because they made a hard push for the Japanese market the first few years of the 360. So PC is the only remote possibility. Besides that, it's probably not going to happen unless they make it free (fat chance in hell) to get around aircraft licensing.
Also there were only 4 coop missions (2 were DLC), so there isn't much longevity despite being really fun.
inability to perceive the scale of aesthetic quality is a defining characteristic of zoomers and autists
Wingman is a cheap imitation of AC. its saving grace is that the devs never pretended it was anything beyond that. it's a decent game, but cringe next to AC
I like PW, it's a good game even if I don't think it's as good as AC. The problem is PW fans are annoying little spiteful c**ts that like to come to AC threads to act superior for whatever reason.
Gameplay and mission structure-wise it's a very good imitation, but the story and dialogue are absolutely soulless.
Considering it was made by an indie studio with very little in the way of previous experienc in making games it was quite good IMO
Basically this, I think it would be better if the story was literally as simple as "The enemy nation is attacking us, go frick them up" and stuck just being as simple as that
>"hehehehe I'm.... LE CRAZY!!!!"
the only kino mission was that one insane dogfight
only downside was the music track was too short in its loop and kinda got grating after the 10th time that saxophone stinger hit
They're really brought down by the fact that the feud between Crimson 1 and Monarch isn't developed well at all and thus doesn't feel very high stakes at all, especially considering that you've already dabbed on the guy twice (3 times if you manage to run his entire squadron off literally by yourself in the refinery mission)
Also who tf gave this obviously schizo dude a plane with Cordium nukes, rapid fire/cluster railguns and the armor to withstand 200 missiles?
It basically just felt like fighting Pixy with zero of the elements that made his fight so iconic (outside of the soundtrack, the composer did a pretty good job)

Is that explained somewhere in the game? I read all of the lore entries that you unlock and tried to follow mission dialog but don't remember this.

no, i made it the frick up, but it seems like the most reasonable explanation since you also hear him going friendly-fire on a guy when the cordium missiles get launched

ironic that it was a 360 exclusive (or they just didn't work as hard on it because of that)

For me it's how they had one named enemy squadron in the entire main game, then decided to put like 6 in the first DLC mission.

Went in completely blind I didn't expect it to turn into a shonen manga complete with a fight crazy pair that keeps chasing the MC cause they want some good time. It's weird cause the main story is relatively grounded, then they let loose completely in the DLC.
https://www.gematsu.com/2022/06/bandai-namco-and-ilca-establish-bandai-namco-aces
They literally got funding for a new joint studio with ILCA last year.
They were the ones who did the cutscene animations for 7 IIRC, I'm guessing they're just being brought on as a support studio so PA can have a more hands on role with cutscene development
>they've got such an elite time at Aces it's wild
Bro, aside from that they got multiple defense companies contacted them at the time; from Americans to Euros and even Chinese military industrial complex got in touch with them, not to mention the Top Gun 2 collabs, shit was cash.
I hope AC8 plays like Project Wingman, the plane movement in Wingman feels good and fluid in comparision with AC7, I don't care if it's not realistic at all but it feels good and for the love of god please get rid of the weather missions, they are not fun in any way.
No one who cares about realism play these games. Especially plane realism autists, they get mini heart attacks everytime your plane makes a slight unrealistic movement.
>Especially plane realism autists, they get mini heart attacks everytime your plane makes a slight unrealistic movement. >meanwhile, people who actually fly planes:
PW takes a good amount of inspiration from 6 regarding gameplay.
Now if only the SHOOT mechanic would come back. The special beep you get when executed correctly is amazing sound design.
I literally don't give a flying frick about anything other than a multiplayer akin to Infinity. With how godawful the multiplayer was in AC7, I'm going to be livid if they don't give us something worth half a shit this time around.
I played AC7 a few weeks ago out of impulse for wanting a new game and something a genre I haven't touched. I think I played some Star Wars games years ago with similar mechanics to AC but I don't remember what it was.
Anyway I digress, I played AC7 with their new controls and found out I more or less played the wrong way. Yeah it kind of helped but I know any of the older AC games will have such controls or any similar games. So with this in mind, what game should I go for next?
god i hope so
until then i've got armored core baby
yeah probably
Just play Armored Core, it is, literally, a fancy Ace Combat.
Where do these morons come from?
Yes, but don't expect to be blown away. It's a solid AC game but it's not great.
Project Aces has been working on 8 for a couple years now. 8 is definitely going to happen, but I personally think it will be the last. But they can do Ace Combat 33 right after that and explore the intercorporate war more.
That should be 3^3 there.
I don't think the lack of ideas would be a problem for a long time. They could do a lot with Ace Combat because it's not based in real life and pretty crazy to begin with. Won't sell that well*
The question everyone loves answering: if I wanted to get into this series, where should I start? Jump right into 7 or emulate some of the PS2 games?
Yeah, emulating 04 is fine.
Thanks bros
Release order starting with 4.
6 has the best gameplay.
This is a fight you cannot win.
6's planes handles like shit and the game's gimmick is the equivalent of an I WIN button
>6's planes handle like shit
maybe if you are a fricking moron, they literally handle like 5 but it's slightly weightier

You literally didn't play the game, AC6 planes handle like a dream compared to any other game in the series
Any of them are fine to jump into. Go for whatever's easiest to acquire for you and play the rest if craving more.
The PS2 trilogy.
3 with the Load Word Team patch.
jp version of 3
then play 4 and then 0 and then 5 and then 6 and then 7
5 is the best one by the way
Release order starting with air combat/ac1 on the PS1.
literally play armored core. same series but replace planes with mechs

>the apocalyptic unicorn then comes to life, destroying the fleet you've been protecting
>planes lift off from its deck, music changes again an begins ramping up
>"intel says one of the planes is carrying a WMD!"
>you as the player take off immediately, and your team acknowledges it in the dialogue
kino kino kino kino these missions needs a warning for how much kino they contain
forgot that the sub planes scream out "Salvation!" as you kill them
>white knuckle melee suddenly interrupted, turns into a boss fight when Rage and Scream show up out of nowhere, with the music ramping up with them
Went in completely blind I didn't expect it to turn into a shonen manga complete with a fight crazy pair that keeps chasing the MC cause they want some good time. It's weird cause the main story is relatively grounded, then they let loose completely in the DLC.

They literally got funding for a new joint studio with ILCA last year.
>ILCA
Yes, they're a support studio. PA is still the main dev team.
they were the main dev for the BDSP remakes and One Piece Odyssey, I think PA is the support here...
They worked on 7 as support too, anon.
They were the ones who did the cutscene animations for 7 IIRC, I'm guessing they're just being brought on as a support studio so PA can have a more hands on role with cutscene development
cinematic director for 7 worked on the evangelion rebuilds
they've got such an elite time at Aces it's wild
>they've got such an elite time at Aces it's wild
Bro, aside from that they got multiple defense companies contacted them at the time; from Americans to Euros and even Chinese military industrial complex got in touch with them, not to mention the Top Gun 2 collabs, shit was cash.
and most importantly, their lead sound designer is master onion from parappa the rapper
I hope that they can still use Sukhoi slavSOVL
Didn't the Ruskies don't care whenever people use their stuff when it comes to media depiction? I'm sure they'll be okay with it.
AFAIK there's no licensing requirements for Russian aircraft since the bureaus are state-owned, they've never been listed in credits
Hopefully they stick to making skins and doing marketing stuff.
More like ass combat, am I right germanbros
AirForce Delta Strike was the superior AC clone knockoff anyway
Now you're just looking for replies.
If I was looking to bait I would have said Hawx > AC
>Hawx
AHHHHHHHHHHHH IT BURNS!
I hope so, and some older titles being ported over to the current gen consoles(and xbox) would be nice too.
I had fun with HAWX
Same
I wish more AC clone did exist, it seems like everyone basically gave up after the PS2 era, its why I like PW despite its flaws
assassination mission was pretty cool
The special beep you get when executed correctly is amazing sound design.
missile
missile
Crashing this plane...
Ace combat and AC clones tier list?
Anyone?
AC > HAWX > PW
S: 3, 4, 0
A: 6
B+: 7, PW
B: 5
I replayed 5 and hated it, but every other game has been just as good on a replay as the first go around.
shit taste
Belkan detected.
Imagine having the first arcade flight game experience be with Project Wingman
War Thunder is worse
>TFW Ace Combat fans never rank the games by gameplay
AC04/the PS2 trilogy is where most people start
I hope we can actually have realistic SEAD with proper ELINT and EW
