Played after all of the post demons souls games and is by far the best From Software shit I've ever seen. Atmosphere wise is probably the best game on PS2. I haven't tried any of the King's Field yet, but do they even come close to Shadow Tower Abyss?

They are quite similar, biggest differences been Shadow Tower games not having any music and difficulty spike is higher, that said King's Field IV for example has great atmosphere and music:
>biggest differences been Shadow Tower games not having any music
What? Are you sure?
Well damn, I guess it has no music. I never noticed this.
I really want a King's Field I-IV remaster collection
I'd rather have a new game, they have only been making souls-like games ever since Demon's became a hit
what about DERACINE
Lunacid, Monomyth, not sure of any others but these are very similar, and inspired by King's Field.
>BY FROM SOFTWARE<
sorry, I'll recommend games that don't exist next time.
Wow, Lunacid is great. Being playing the whole morning and it's a lot of fun. Too bad it's not complete yet, but I'm definitely keep playing it until it comes out of EA.
Anymore like this one?
maybe Fight Knight & Dread Delusion, they have a similar aesthetic, but I haven't played them so I can't say.
Elderborn is pretty good too but leans more into "What if Nu-Doom met Dark Messiah of Might and Magic".
Monomyth intends to be a spiritual successor to King's Field and there is a demo available. Releases later this year I think. Demo is pretty sizeable and gives a good idea of the game.
Downloaded the game from Monomyth, will give a try later today.
I've read about Fight Knight when it released and it seemed like a meme game, so I didn't even bother. I'll look it up again. I've heard about Elderborn as well, remember someone calling it a immersive sim or something. Dark Messiah of M&M is good as well? I've played M&M X but that's all I know from the series.
DMoMM
I'll let this video speak for itself
There is also Blood West. It's a weird one, not sure how to describe it. It's a shooter, but you're constantly undergeared and underpowered. It has a vague questline and bosses to kill. As far as I can tell there is just one open interconnected map to explore. It has stealth mechanics. I tried it and didn't like it, but I can see why some people do enjoy it.
Ok, thanks for the recs, I'll look for them all (I already have a NDS emulator on my phone, so that's an easy one). Also, I always thought Arx Fatalis was pretty much mandatory when it came to crawlers. Is the problem that it didn't age well or it was never that good?
great video, this one I'll wait to get on a steam sale since the price is a bit high over here right now.
I would disagree with him. Arx Fatalis is pretty good and it's definitely better than KF1.
>Dark Messiah of M&M is good as well?
No. Fun melee kicking mechanic for a minute but nothing more. Nothing like KF at all.
Thank you for the Monomyth recommendation. Great game, great atmosphere. Already wishlisted and will definitely play the full game.
They have and you know it but you also wanna feel special but what you don't realize is you are special OP... SPECIAL ED!
Shadow Tower Abyss is pretty high up on the FromSoft FPS list. I readily consider the original Shadow Tower to be the worst, or at least my least favorite of the entire lineup.
Between them all, I have to say I prefer the King's Field formula better. King's Field feels more consistent and focused. The difficulty is higher yet it feels more fair. King's Field IV is the easiest recommendation in the world if you liked ST:A - the PS1 King's Fields are rather nice too but you probably won't like them as much if you aren't accustomed to playing games that old.
Oh, right - and Eternal Ring is worth checking out as well. It's very similar to the King's Field formula. The atmosphere is lighter and it has a bit of voice acting. It's probably the easiest of all the catalog but it's still a nice game.
I have no problem in playing 3d games on the PSX, so I might start with KF I. Since you said KF IV is the easiest recommendation, I'll leave it for last so I can have that final taste of greatness. I'll place Eternal Ring and Shadow Tower in between so I don't get burned out.
I've been meaning to check out FS's fp games. King's Field II (III in Japan) is the one that I am most interested in playing.
King's Field is memed because of Dork Souls and nothing more
I liked Shadow Tower, but Abyss feels harder to get into. Imo the first one is their Mangum Opal.
Shut the frick up hipster try hard zoomer r*ddit fr*m worshipper
the best game they ever made is demons souls. before that is KF4. everything else is middling.
I feel like a lot of these games being pushed as "Like King's Field" actually play and feel more along the lines of Oblivion.
Like, what's the attraction to corpse-looting, inventory management and lockpicking?
All of these things disrupting the pacing... It's not bad to like that kind of thing but it's not really what I think of with King's Field.
I'd take the suggestions with a grain of salt a play a demo (if available) before getting invested in these projects. We know how eager devs are to tack a "Souls-like" tag to anything for visibility, so just saying a game is inspired by King's Field doesn't mean much.
Agree with all of this. Looked at the gameplay footage of Monomyth and it looks like shit. The logo looks like Kings Field but it looks like Morrowind and the pacing just kind of looks like shit. And there's nothing to say you can't do that and it needs to be explicitly like Kings Field but for me it's a hard pass. Lunacid looks much more evocative.
