They released a 25 year anniversary video the other day, got me thinking about it again.

Doubt it.
Unless it's an absolutely revolutionary 10/10 game, there's no way it can live up to the hype.
Highly unlikely. Opposing Force 2 is an absolute never ever.
My best guess is they are waiting for technological leaps that make games more immersive (haptics etc). half life alyx is just a way for engineers to test the waters of whats possible. My bet is they have quite a lot of the work finished and are just waiting for the hardware to be ripe. That is why valve is investing so much in small screens and vr. As soon as there is an elegant way to simulatie motion and haptics I think they will start working on it seriously.
Idk I have a feeling that HL3 will be flatscreen and the revolutionary tech will be only on software side of things.
I remember hearing about one HL3 prototype version that heavily utilized next gen AI director from L4D that made every playthrough its own unique experience. I think that idea is much more compelling that VR which at this point will probably never take off.
At this rate we re gonna have ai generated half life yes KEK gordon balenciaga
Pretty much this.
Half Life is as much of a software benchmark as it is a game
Yes sure episode 1 and 2 were piss filters
Episode 1/2 was a test of delivering continuous story content (which of course didn't work out).
/thread. Gabe Newell has made it very clear that his biggest venture is into virtual reality. We won't be getting Half Life until he feels that it's ready to act as a tech demo for revolutionary VR capabilities.
Lets not pretend anyone even cares anymore. Everyone who played HL2, much less HL1, is too old to still be playing games today.
zoomba fearmongering never stops being funny
nobody cares anymore, epistle 3 put all that to rest years ago. i wish valve would just make a new game already but all the people who were into that left ages ago, whatever holdouts were left just work on dota and counterstrike.
>wishes Valve would make a new game
>get awful trading card game
accursed monkey paw
Probably not, which sucks because the leaked story plot from the main writer sounded incredible. Maybe it is better off that way, since 1 and 2 were 10/10 masterpieces, and I wouldn't want it to turn into (off the top of my head) halo, gears, and innumerable other franchises that become generic trash.
Yeah. I believe technology has advanced enough to make it revolutionary.
When there's a new tech to push probably. Alyx was supposed to help push VR, but even with massive sales VR didn't become any more mainstream so I don't know how Valve feels about it or trying their hands at it again any time soon.
I really want to believe, but after 15 years...I just don't care anymore. The oldies dissolved and there's like 2 people left on valve who made original Half-Life
series is just tech demos
you wont get hl3 until they have some groundbreaking new graphics/physics engine to show off
Wait tga if not then ignore it
Next game they are working on isn't HL3 so not any time soon. I think Gabe will want to release it before he dies so maybe in the next 10-20 years.
RICOCHETFIELD
The fact that is HL3 comes out, the year gap between half life 2 would be longer than that of Return of the Jedi and the Phantom Menace
You Black folk still use steam, there's simply no need for such a risk, especially considering that all the original devs are probably not even there anymore.
They haven't fixed their shitty servers that go down for maintenance every week losing them sales and shutting down official servers, this has been going on for over three decades now, you really think they will invest in a new game when they are so inept?
Could have settled for finishing HL2 with Episode 3 at least, and they wouldn't have gotten half as much shit as they did.
But now that Alyx came and went all "G-Man snaps his fingers and roll everything back because he can just do that lmao", who even cares what happens in the story anyway.
It's like Sonic 3
It's undoubtedly going to happen eventually, just not any time soon, probably
In case anyone wanted to know how HL3 would go
https://half-life.fandom.com/wiki/Epistle_Three
>tfw you will never get to experience the Dyson Sphere
they clearly stated after the release of HL: Alyx that more HL games are in the pipeline.
also the ending of Alyx strongly hints at half life 3, with you taking control of gordon freeman for a few seconds
its important to mention that this is just what one of the writers imagined how ep3 could go, its not the actual story of HL3 or Episode 3.
>one of the writers
Anon, Marc Laidlaw IS (was) the main writer for HL series. Other people maybe chipped in or the plot could've changed because of technical issues but he is what Half-Life is basically
yeah thats true i just wanted to point out that the story wouldve probably changed a lot during development of the actual game
Too fricking similar the premise of gman stealing the gf and cucking gordon
I don't know. Does anyone even care anymore?
It already happened. It was called Alyxx. It was a prequel, but whatever. You essentially got your HL3.
What nice year of disguised sequels were that with ff7 remake
Valve is practically obligated to finish the trilogy at some point given how they ended Episode 2 and Alyx. Valve has always been insistent upon each major HL entry being really revolutionary and since HL2 has been released the only real "paradigm shift" was VR which they used for Alyx. HL3 will probably come when some really crazy tech is available to take advantage of. HL1 was all about environmental interactivity and storytelling, HL2 was showcasing new game physics, Alyx was VR, and HL3 will be something else.
I doubt it. I think the next game from Valve will either be 1) a handheld focussed game that they think will become the default time-filler for a large playerbase or 2) a next-generation VR game released with Deckard.
You know how Marc Laidlaw said that he wanted each Half-Life game to be it's own distinct arc and story?
I wonder what they could do for Half-Life 3, assuming they moved on from the combine in City 17 etc.
I honestly expected the video to end with them announcing HL3
How many people have died while waiting for hl3?
No, Gaben knows that a third game would be the end of the series, and he's extending his life far beyond normal by keeping it unfinished. Just like GRRM.
im surprised there hasnt been a fan game with approximations of what it could have been a tied up loose ends this far out from when the last HL2 DLC came out.
