The obsession with stories and narratives, provided with the obsession with diversity, has created this annoying trend where instead of custom characters in an open world you're forced into the shoes of some minority protagonist. It's double the cringe.
Beyond radlib box ticking, I think I'm just tired of the shallow faux rpg elements and preset characters. Just give me a custom silent protagonist, for the love of God. All games could have autistic morrowind Wikipedia boxes and I wouldn't care, voice acting just seems like such an insane time and money sink, especially for the RPG genre.
