Would you put it as the best Final Fantasy game or one of the best? I'm unsure if it takes the top spot because I do think the mini games, materia system, and overall jump from 2d to 3d puts it down a little bit.

3d is pig disgusting, but honestly, the enemy designs in this game are very imaginative, and having no swimming textures (mostly, battle arenas are textures) gives it a really cool look. Not to mention the game is like 75% 2d. Best soundtrack in the entire series, and a great cast.
Wouldn't rate it at the top though because for all the massive amount of materia they give you, there's no reason not to use attack on every mob and then spam summons on bosses. Kind of boring, and means that character customization is largely pointless.
>Best soundtrack in the entire series
That would be FF8
Nah that would be a non /vr/ related game.
>FF8
>Not /vr/
If I post it will I get banned?
I don't think so?
STEP INTO THE RAINBOW, FIND ANOTHER VIEW
Negative, and that's coming from a fan who liked FF8 more. FF7 has legendary music.
>best soundtrack
lol no. hell no.
5
Same. My only issue with 5 is that it's too fricking short.
Would say 5, 9, 6, 7, 10 are in my top 5 with 3 right under. Some interchangeable but think 5 is the best with 6 and 9 fighting for second place.
Well FFX is my favorite FF game, followed by FF6. I'd say FF7 is one of the best FF games, and is did more than it's fair share to make FF a mainstream franchise in the USA (if I'm not mistaken), therefore, I think it's the most important FF titles, just not the best game in the series.
Of course everyone has their favorites, and to be honest they're all good so I can't be mad about someone else's opinion.
The only hard disagree /vr/ related that I would have is saying IV or XII is the best. I'd even accept tactics but lmao at XII.
6 and 7 are the two "best" imho. 5 is pretty good and definitely the best gameplay but the graphics are only a slight improvement on 4.
FF5 is a pretty huge graphical upgrade in terms of color use and detail. 4 has a lot of very simple surfaces.
And I honestly find both games nicer looking than 6. Yes, 6 has some absolutely stunning looking bosses, but the overall appearance of the game is really drab.
what are your thoughts on the pixel remaster version of VI?
I only bought 3, because a 16bit remake for that game is something I never expected and I really like the game.
I haven't been paying enough attention to the others to really comment. They certainly look better than the abominations that they are replacing.
Hard to say since it's not out yet and doesn't even have any screenshots.
Judging by IV though I imagine it will look fine. Probably on par with the GBA version, though with better sound. And hopefully they'll finally release a version with a working Dancing Mad.
F O U R
One of the best. My personal favorites are IV, VI, and VII, followed by V and IX.
Haven't played them all but no. It's good but nothing spectacular. I understand why a lot of people love it so much but I think several other games in the series are better.
Like?
I'd say I like 5, 6 and 9 better for sure.
wouldn't count 3 games as "several others"
>5
>6
fine
>9
holy hahahahaha
>wouldn't count 3 games as "several others"
I would.
3 is literally several
In a series with 15+ mainlines and several side games. "several others" would definitely not be around 3 games.
Already said I haven't played them all. Only played 4 through 10.
Okay that's cool but why are you replying to me?
best ost in the series
t. underneath the rotting pizza
I hate to be "that guy," but the game is a totally different experience if you play the Japanese original. I'm not saying it's better. In fact, I liked it less.
The American translation is an absolute mess, and most of the characters sound like they're mentally challenged. The translator was obviously a native speaker of Japanese, and they apparently never ran the script through an English editor. The English script is SO BAD. But with the character designs and somewhat silly plot, it kind of works.
Then I got decent at Japanese and played the original. Oh boy. Suddenly, everyone doesn't sound mentally challenged. And Cloud goes waaaaay overboard on talking like a shounen "tough guy," using a gruff speech style and lots of slang.
I didn't think it worked as well. It made the characters seem different from my memory. Suddenly everyone was a well-spoken tough guy, but the level of seriousness and the plot just didn't support it. FF7 then somehow felt really dated and ridiculous. I stopped 20 hours in.
Interesting point. The shitty translation does add some charm to my memories. I even heard they made mods with corrected translations, but never bothered with them. I wonder if those would give off a similar feel.
>English translation means the game is not the original
Frick you.
Yeah
>probably the best pre-rendered backgrounds of all final fantasy (maybe rivaled by IX)
>babby's first JRPG
>it was my first JRPG too
>I fricking love industrial sci-fi
>nice combat system
>nice materia system
>good combat flow
>interesting story (for me)
>cool cast of characters
>one of the best Cid's in all of FF (I"d say the one from IV might have Highwind beat, but eh
>nice length
>lots of side quests and shit to do
>amazing soundtrack
but i like all the ff games except for 13 and 15
FFX is the best.
Also I will close this thread and not look at replies from commoners.
Not only the worst FF, quite possibly the worst game on PS2. You WILL read this.
materia is the best system in the entire series
It really is. 7 isn't perfect, but the magic system sure as frick is.
In terms of sidequests FF9 is my favorite, but only barely. In terms of world map, town maps, sountracks, bestiary, and otherall aesthetics FF8 is my favorite. But FF7 has the best story.
>materia system
>bad
lol, what? its the 7th best game in the series. the 4 games better than it? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
lol i meant 6 not 4
dunno how you guys like the materia system so much.
>makes each character samey
>same build all the time
>either break the game with the physical materia set or summon materia set
>spamming knights of the round over and over and over again
I myself prefer the sphere grid system or of course the tactics system. V is a little too barebones for me to completely love.
I like the game breaking aspects if you know the right combinations to use. The potential is there, it’s not as if it’s very readily accessible until you get though a lot of the game on the first place as need to gather the materia.
Do like sphere grid customization options, though the potential to go off the beaten path is there usually ona play through it’s going to follow the usual character path until late game when getting ready for super bosses.
Play on expert.
Can you guys stop spoiling final fantasy seven in this thread? I've never played a jrpg but I want to some day
you could just not look at the thread, homosexual
Bro FF7 is in every platform right now. Just play it already.
I played it for the first time last year on my switch
Go away moron.
