I wonder what the real active player stats are at this point. I'm 100% convinced nobody but the top 1% guilds play this shit beyond the first month after xpac release.

Honestly man, i have a friend at blizzard and he confirmed that they only have 100 players daily
My dad works at blizzard and he said only twelve people play the game, everyone else is just GPT-3 and a glider addon on hundreds of MacBooks stacked together in Ion's office.
Realistically I'd say about 1.5 million active players across all of retail, but about half of those don't pay for subscription and simply sell boosties or farm gold to purchase wow token. So actual paying playerbase is more like 750k, this will go down to 500k once Chinese servers go down. Then you have about 200-250k active players in classic if you assume each player has two characters (in reality it's more like 10 but that's hard to quantify) but it's impossible to say how many of these players play both retail and classic or classic only.
So overall I'd say 2 million players and less than 1 million active subscribers.
Its probably closer to 2k, if that even. Most of wow is just bots and samegayging.

Every WoW token on the AH is $20 that someone gave to Blizzard, normal sub is $15. That's why they have it, the token gets players who would be unwilling to pay a full sub price stay mazed off the backs of whales.

This literally happened to me too.
I even started leveling a tank to tank mythics as a group, despite never tanked before, and they all quit before we could even start doing HEROICS.
I'm not sure I understand how the dragon island is supposed to be a "higher level" than the Shadowlands or Black Empire's Throne.
It's not interesting enough after the clusterfrick that was Shadowlands. It's just more of the same. The game is old, the developer isn't really trying anymore and the players don't care.
The areas are okay, but would have lived some tone change and diversity to each zone.
Story is okay. Nice to not be fighting the next doomsday every raid.
All the new dungeons are pretty cool (Bracken is kind of shit as a whole, but it's nice to have a gnoll dungeon).
The M+ dungeon is cool with some of the best aesthetically cool dungeons back.
Raid is really fun and they did great work trimming the tedious trash/running point to point.
Professions are cool. Work order system is GREAT.
I'll still probably quit pretty soon though. Group loot is garbage system. Loot drops seem to have been nerfed significantly especially for "priority" items (weapons and trinkets). I've ran HoV M+ 30 times and have not received dagger or trinket. I've run Court 25 times and have not received trinket. I've cleared normal and 2 bosses in heroic raid 3 weeks in a row. 1 piece of loot. No drops from the world bosses 3 weeks running.
They need to modernize and improve their loot system like FF14's or, well, just anything. Time invested should not result in net zero gain but it does.
Tokens need to come back or you need to be able to control your loot pool -- or some sort of non-shit system like current. My numbers and thus success in content should not be limited by pure randomness.

I leveled up 6 characters and working on all of them to max my professions. If you wanna be busy as frick in WoW i recoommend trying that. I barely have enough time to do everything. And yeah i also run m+ on my main when i can (warlock for obvious reasons)
levelling professions is really fun, making a ton of gold as well on my main with leatherworking

Yes, but you still pay $15, and you're getting essentially a single player game because no one plays shadowlands.
Even Blizzard doesn't want people to play Shadowlands, new players get pushed into BfA right from the the start til 60 then immediately tells you to go to Dragon Isles.

I assume so. A guy i know quit 2 weeks into launch, this is the same guy that would eat the shit right out of blizzard's butthole.
I tried it again today because I had free 3 day time. I created a fresh character, and chose to do the new starting zone quests, which took me into the Theramore zone. Firstly, for a new player it would be incredibly confusing to be placed there since you you're thrown a bunch of names and races that you have no connection to. The city is also incomplete, which forces you to still make the trip to Stormwind to upgrade riding, specific portals, etc. I'm diligiently doing all the quests in order, and it's an endless chain of kill x number, fetch 9 pelts no matter how many hours I have put into it so far. There are a few standalone quests which are more fun that help break up monotony but too far inbetween. It's also incredibly slow running till 20 (until you get a mount) for the new player experience (but I won't hold that against WoW since other mmos do it) but what really grinds my gears is hearthstoning is only once every 30 minutes, so your direct fast travel is effectively capped (which other mmos don't do) - griffons are too far inbetween for the early experience imo.
Mobs are incredibly tightly bunched together as well, which means you chain aggro so many of them, resulting in you spending so much time walking to your corpse. I dunno, just putting my thoughts into words I still like the game but the new player experience before flying is incredibly annoying.

Chat restrictions, gold restrictions, trade restrictions, mail restrictions. The free till 20 thing isn't a great experience, plus level 20 is like 2-3 hours of play if you know what you're doing.
Make a hunter, prot warroor or a resto shaman. Get some blue dungeon gear, you now can solo most dungeons in the game on a trial account. You can still pvp as a trial and you will wreck other people.
I specifically keep a level 20 twink around that i play on when my sub runs out, and its honestly fun soloing dungeons. I just finished grinding the gladiator chain piece in BRD on my hunter. Dungeon gear at that level us 61, its a whopping ilvl 87 because its a purple.
Lol this is what I started doing but didn't know others do as well. Haven't played WoW before, made a (worgen) warlock and farmed gear. Level capped at 20 but figured I could still get better gear. I am so overpowered and don't think the game is really scaled in a way where you should have the gear I do at level 20. It's pretty funny.
Afraid if I do sub eventually that my banked 10 levels will just make me much weaker because of enemy scaling.
Nice anon, how good geared is your warlock right now? There are some nice epics to be gotten from the vanilla dungeons. Look up the book from Balnazzar in Stratholme, the dagger from Princess Theradras in Maraudon, there's an epic robe you can get from Sunken Temple and an epic headpiece in BRD.
All these bosses seem soloable and you can queue for Maraudon too.
Thanks for the tips. I'm in the process of trying out soloing. I can murder waves but haven't really tried bosses yet. Overall gear level is around 50 and I'm still missing one trinket. Got one that shoots missiles which is pretty fun but on a huge cooldown.

First expansion that I did not touch at all and haven't even thought about. Funny because if they had done full-on dragons as the new race instead of the cringe fursuit shit I probably would have played the frick out of it, if only for the satisfaction of RP. Raiding is fricking horrible right now and this raid is maybe the least enjoyable I've experienced in WoW.

As someone who has been playing wow for over a decade, and went back and boughr all the RTS games.
I haven't bought this expansion. It's okayish if you just want to do end game content, but if you're interested in the world and the story, which you should, then I'd suggest to pirate Warcraft 3 and do the campaign. WoW hasn't been cool since Warlords of Draenor and all the interesting shit is at the first few expansions because the current writers are incompetent morons that have a hate boner for the original Warcraft.
They know they're horrible because Centaurs as a race were introduced in Warcraft 3 and Dragonflight has a subset of Centaurs which they stated have no affiliation with the original ones because they know their writing is dogshit and they don't want to piss off core fans.
Blizz duped their drones by releasing another expansion with no content but this time they tried to market it like FFXIV (just play another game bro)
