XCOM 2 is way too fricking hard
I can't get past the 1st (randomly generated) mission since everything fricking 2 shots you + brainwash shit ON EASIEST DIFFICULTY
I know how this game works. I beat the 1st game just fine,.
I feel it's just bad RNG for 1st mission. everyone on my team is still weak as hell (there are only 4 of them iirc) and there are over 10 enemies, aliens that can brainwash (incurable) and they 2 shot me. There's also lack of cover area since it's big fricking open snow field. It's impossible.
Okay do this:
Restart,
Move your guys once (they still have another action) and overwatch with the next move
Repeat until you see enemy
Surround enemy in cover
Overwatch all except one and shoot
Watch as the pod (group of enemies) is destroyed
Rinse and repeat >uncurable
Flashbang or kill the sectoid
I love XCom 2 and I've played it a ton, but long war just seems masochistic. I'm fine with my games lasting 20 hours, thanks, I don't need an 80 hour XCom campaign.
Lrn2Pod
If you ever trigger a pod of enemies on your turn you fricked up.
>I don't need an 80 hour XCom campaign.
Long war is about 100-150 hours long, openxcom megamods are even longer estimated at 400+ hours
you filthy casual
If it was one of those timer missions they're actually broken they don't give you enough turns to finish the mission unless you hyper-optimize every move perfectly. It's not meant to be like that.
There was timer actually to defuse the bomb above a truck AND THEN after I defused it, 7 new enemies appeared form behind building + far away in the snow field.
Timers one the raid missions before even being discovered was so fricking stupid. The aliens just rigged their shit to blow up halfway to the destination.
iunno to own the libs I guess.
those are the fricking worst >defuse the bomb in 3 turns despite being on the other side of the map >just rush in and defuse it on the last turn despite there still being one enemy up >surprise there was an officer, a trooper, and a sectoid hidden just out of sight :^)
you always need a hacker and a ranger after the first mission, hacker to do those shitty early hack missions with 7 turn limit, ranger to sword strike sectoids. nade abuse is pretty common too.
XCOM 2 is just plain unfun, I made a playthrough on vanilla Rookie because I haven't played very much of it and early game was a genuine pain in the ass. The rookies can't aim for shit, the first proper alien you meet can mind control, pods can be triggered from the corner of the vision, you're far more reliant on grenades than ever before (and they don't have the previous game's downside), pod positioning is more nonsensical (it's significantly easier to walk past a pod without knowing it's there until you find another pod and accidentally trigger the pod from behind your squad) and the game becomes easy as hell later on.
I tried it but it felt too dicerolley.
Mid to long range in cover, constantly shooting and sometimes someone randomly dies. Not really small enough to reliably flank. On top of that the meta campaign just takes too long, even with adjusted war or whatever its called.
I liked the idea, but couldn't be fricked to continue eventually.
XCOM2 (wotc) was easy when you understand how it works dude. I completed with hardly any losses once it clicked and got the steamroll going. It's now my favourite of the nu xcoms. I liked the new classes and abilities a lot.
Being able to make decisions that are more sure to have effect and do damage makes you just focus on tactics and planning ahead instead of playing boring rng attrition.
Also the mods were great for customizing your shit. Even if it makes the game run even more poorly.
Dunno about Long War, but I'll just jump in with this... I haven't played the game in years, but how are you supposed to fight the bosses that randomly jump into missions and then run without save scumming? They absolutely wreck my shit even if I try to run. I try to attack and they pretty much wipe my squad out. Maybe I just couldn't figure out the game.
they're only in the game because the lead designer wanted to make a marvel capeshit game but couldn't convince the studio execs to let him make that so he shoehorned it all into xcom 2 and ruined the franchise
It makes it a long war.
I think I played the original and it's stuff like you start out doing really minor things to hurt ADVANT and you can take however many troops you want, but doing so increases how dangerous the mission can be.
While LW1 can have some minor issues with balancing, it is generally good and fully playable from start to finish with minimum save scumming. Even if you play with lots of optional settings for the game mode. I suspect that LW2 was barely ever tested beyond certain point because it becomes pretty much unplayable later on, intense save scumming included. Check Nexus comments or reviews on other sites.
Also I think different people worked on it, not the original team.
Straight up I'm a new player and I am up to midgame/lategame on, well, easiest, but still. There is nothing wrong with the balancing of the mod, in fact, I find it easy on Rookie. Obviously if I bring in my starter gear rookies to a mission now, however, I lose them all.
Both LW1 and LW2 become a slog in the late game. They're not that different. Late LW1 airgame for example is complete cancer. I assume part of the reason behind that is you're supposed to be pushing to finish the game at that point.
The only reason people like LW1 so much is because there were so few other mods for X1 that it looks better in comparison. With LW2 you have other options. I still like its brand of autism but both long wars were equally autistic in my opinion. If anything I appreciate that LW2 is less fricking long, I know it's in the name but the first LW's campaign length was fricking absurd
Don't know really, before lw2 I used to run with a grab bag of mods like grimy's loot, bigger pods, new enemies, etc. Nowadays there's probably different stuff.
I still prefer lw2 (now lwotc) because it's all in one, someone else already did the work of assembling and balancing it. Otherwise I'm constantly fumbling around with a mod list when things feel too easy or too hard, it feels like build-a-game rather than a campaign I'm trying to beat.
tbh I suspect the anons complaining about lw2/lwotc just turned the difficulty too high and got their egos hurt, I play on veteran like a scrub and it's fun
>Repeater weapon mod >5-10% chance to INSTANTLY KILL ANY ENEMY INCLUDING MEME BOSSES LIKE THE CHOSEN AND ALIEN RULERS WITH 40HP
who the frick thought this was balanced?
The superior one is 15% instakill. Reaper with a repeater and superior mag can use his/her banish ability to fire 8 shots practically guaranteeing an execution
If the probability of each shot hitting was 100% the probability of none of them triggering the repeater is ~27.27%
I know that the game fudges aim probabilities (it has a hidden bonus added after X amount of misses), but I'm unsure if it does the same for effect procs.
>get that xcom itch and reinstall game >Install 90+ mods, most of them cosmetics, game now takes ages to load >Play until i kill off 2 chosens and now I'm bored >uninstall game because it now takes up 90gb thanks to all the mods >reinstall again 3 weeks later
And this is how i rake in close to a thousand hours on this shit. Frick Diversity Squad, give me XCOM3 NOW JAKE!
I installed LWOTC because I always heard how "amazing" and "hardcore" it is, but then I uninstalled quick because in reality the mod just overcomplicates an already thinking man's game just for the sake of over complication and to make it "harder". It really is lame and I dont know who the frick thinks that over bloating a game with systems is a good idea.
I love this xcom games, so much that I've beating them countless times, and now that I have them on pc I got exited because I could finally play these mods, but Long War truly is for turbo autists, not for regular people that just want to have fun with a game.
Facts.
Long War 1 was made by a bunch of turbo autists who had played the game for 1000 hours and needed way more to stay interested
Long War 2 is much the same but the autists involved were less talented/dedicated.
War of the Chosen with a few mods is easily the best XCom type game I've ever played. Musashi RPG overhaul optional.
offense is better than defense for the most part
officers are fricking important don't skip them
air game is where you make or break the game
it's ok to sell some elerium and alloys early on
play on normal if it's your first time it's plenty hard
MECs are the big powerspike for you on the ground
smoke grenades are op as frick always have at least one in your squad and never let go
long war of the chosen seems like absolute bullshit, i've seen webms of pods being activated and like 30 enemies just spilling out of every nook and cranny available
I stopped the invasion in Enemy Unknown so there should have been nothing to liberate in XCOM 2.
I did like XCOM 2 but I just want another soft reboot at this point where you're defending the world from alium attacks with new mechanics.
>I stopped the invasion in Enemy Unknown
No, you failed and were captured fairly early on. What you did was run combat sims for the aliens while plugged into their psionic network.
All the different playthroughs everyone played of XCOM 1 were simulations the aliens forced the commander to run through after they got captured in the canon XCOM 1 campaign which failed at the base defense.

stop playing the game on drugs
shut the frick up dude, weed doesn't have any impact on how you play the game, I bet you even drink coffee literally every day
Have you tried using cover? I have to play vanilla on Commander Ironman just to not snore
I know how this game works. I beat the 1st game just fine,.

Let me press X here. I mean sure, sometimes RNG can do ridiculous stunts. Like this for example:
?t=447
But normally you have to do something seriously moronic to fail completely on the very first non-gatecrasher mission.
I love XCom 2 and I've played it a ton, but long war just seems masochistic. I'm fine with my games lasting 20 hours, thanks, I don't need an 80 hour XCom campaign.

A week is the perfect length for a campaign.
Anyone doing a multiple months-long run is simply autistic
whats a good openxcom megamod?
x-piratez, xcom files, 40k mod a bit less mega but still big mods would be fmp or twots
If it was one of those timer missions they're actually broken they don't give you enough turns to finish the mission unless you hyper-optimize every move perfectly. It's not meant to be like that.

These games are simple as frick, just stick to cover and blow up theirs and the enemies themselves with grenades, how could you struggle with that?
LWOTC only allows cover to be broken with nades if you have perks
The guy I replied to is talking about vanilla XCOM2, LWOTC is indeed different.
>long bore
no thanks
>this is like $6 on GOG rn
>can't be arsed

Isn't creator is a gay who was involved in tiles dramma ? He also tried to hide and delete his mod from oxc forums.
oh boy it's another mod that adds a bunch of tedious shit to turn a fun game into a tedious slog

What exactly does Long War do? I remember seeing it wasn't available for war of the chosen but I guess that's changed now.
It makes it a long war.
I think I played the original and it's stuff like you start out doing really minor things to hurt ADVANT and you can take however many troops you want, but doing so increases how dangerous the mission can be.
XCOM 2 lacks the atmosphere and suspense that made the first game fun.
LW1 good
LW2 absolute dumpsterfire shit
>LW2 absolute dumpsterfire shit

You probably just dunno what the frick you're doing on the HQ management level and are getting into unwinnable situations because of it
>hundreds of people (if not more) all came to the same conslusion
>haha it is just ur fault
A bunch of people can be wrong
Sure. But it becomes less and less probable from certain point.
Probability doesn't impact reality
It often does.
Straight up I'm a new player and I am up to midgame/lategame on, well, easiest, but still. There is nothing wrong with the balancing of the mod, in fact, I find it easy on Rookie. Obviously if I bring in my starter gear rookies to a mission now, however, I lose them all.

The superior one is 15% instakill. Reaper with a repeater and superior mag can use his/her banish ability to fire 8 shots practically guaranteeing an execution
Rulers deserve to be cheesed like that for "breaking" game's rules by acting out of turn.
70% is not practically guaranteed

I know that the game fudges aim probabilities (it has a hidden bonus added after X amount of misses), but I'm unsure if it does the same for effect procs.
8 shot banish on reaper with right ammo is guaranteed kill on most enemies even without repeater
