How do you deal with losing troops or shit even entire missions for that matter. Its only tactical games I do this shit. I can lose all day in others.
You come to terms with losing. Not just soldiers but countries. You aren't supposed to be able to save every country. It is a game of choices. For the first 1/3 of the game you should constantly have a rookie in your group. Keep ranking up soldiers until you have a few good squads. You need to be stable enough to not game over if you squad wipe. You think you won't have enough resources if you keep wasting money on soldiers that die but you will. It is a slow climb. Turn on Ironman and just try something different.
I thought longwar added so much shit it was worth playing for that alone. Maybe just do vanilla though if you didnt get very far. But maybe frick it, start back up with longwar and be amazed and confused.

XCOM wants to be a game where you can eat losses but it really isn't at all.
you play longwar. the basegame is actually far too brittle to take losses in. you can't roll with any punches when your team is so small.
