Of all the allies who died for us, Haurchefant hurts the most. This guy took us in while everyone else turned their back on us. He always believed in us and even opened his home to us.
He also died to protect us. Not for some grandiose ritual or last stand like the others. Dude took a bullet for us, and in his dying breath told us to cheer up. We even remembered what he said two expansions later. The Dark Knight job quests is basically us coping with his death.
No deaths before or after hits as hard as Haurchefant. Maybe Zenos' death, maybe.

It's artificial and short term growth, of course it's good and opens the eyes of people to the game who would not have seen it otherwise. However it's not solely attributable to a single streamer and to have the growth of FF14 tied to a streamer, you're asking for the game to fall into the trap that WoW fell into, where the growth is dependant on content creators and streamers. Whereas although ff14 has them, albeit on a smaller scale, it doesn't need them to exist and be successful. Which is a very good thing, think of all the live service games which bend to streamer demands, and because drama and negativity drives traffic for a streamer, it's in their interest to demand more and create more drama around a game until the game itself breaks after bending too much to those demands.
14 will grow slower it's true without the massive influencers but it will absolutely create a more loyal and stable player base than one who is intensely follows the FOMO game streamer crowd.
I'm sitting typing here not playing the game because I'm locked out of my server, there are so many homosexuals farming the fates for the Yokai event. If it peaked then what the frick?

"Hardcore" MMO players are the most self-absorbed people honestly. Even after Yoshi acquiescing and giving you super hard content to do through Ultimates you still can't help but complain about them making content for other levels of play as well.
Moment to moment gameplay absolutely has room to be more engaging but the answer isn't DOOD MAKE MORE ULTIMATES. Everything being a brick wall of progression isn't fun all the time either.
I don't really care about Ultimates, as my irl schedule doesn't allow me to commit to a static and I'd rather eat broken glass than try to PF it

Lower difficulty content can be satisfying to play and still remain at a lower difficulty. The ideal way to do that is to raise the skill ceiling on the personal end and allow for more skill expression in each job. Then people who are comfortable and want to improve can do so, and they won't end up sleeping through roulettes.

The theme of the expansion affects almost none of the content beyond the dungeons. The 8 and 24 man raids thematically have nothing to do with the New World. Eureka didnt with Stormblood, Bozja didnt with SHB. The V&C content and DD content is completely isolated. So is the new space adventure stuff. And you're already bashing job design without even seeing what they do.

If people cant even put into words what they want, they shouldnt complain. Having a foray helps a lot. A foray plus V&C (especially if they keep fine tuning them) plus space exploration diadem+ishgard AND more DD is a ton of content.
The lack of a Foray is the biggest issue for EW obviously, an optional long form grind is a perfect way to get people who want something to do to do something. A lot of complaints though are how there are only X amount of fights for each raid tier or there are only X ultimates per patch. Raidloggers are not gonna go and do Eureka.

As someone who only recently got back into FFXIV, Endwalker wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. It definitely had its low points but the highs were decently high.
It wasn't as good as Shadowbringers but it's the falling action after the climax, it's not as bad as Stormblood so it makes the landing.
I mean it is a pretty decent chunk of the game unless you're a skipgay who's just there to get bigger number in the postgame. Judging the expansions solely by their postgames isn't exactly the ideal metric either.
The MSQ takes up a tiny portion of your playtime unless you're one of those weirdos who treat it literally like a JRPG and unsub after finishing the MSQ which is incredibly niche.
Motherfricker it's a story game that happens to be attached to an mmo. There should be unskippable checkpoints that ask questions people who are paying attention could answer easily and if you get any wrong you're sent back to the start of the story
I do some post game stuff, not hardcore enough for stuff like Savage Raids but I usually do the Alliance and Normal Raid series. I think that judging the story and the postgame as separate things is better than lumping them together, especially when half of ARR's slog was because of all the godforsaken post patch quests. Ivalice was definitely the best Alliance Raid, but I still have a soft spot for Alexander with the normal series. Worst Alliance Raid by far is Void Ark, hard to really determine a worst Normal though, most of them are pretty even and Coil shouldn't even be considered the same as the rest imo. Maybe my opinions there will change after I sit down and do EW's post game content but for now I can only really consider what I've played so far.
Every expansion is only it's X.0 MSQ, yes. Adjusting your rating of an expansion while content is drip fed over the next two years is a moronic mindset. You are far better off rating the content that comes out later on it's own individual merits rather than trying to lump it in with the expac as a whole.
I think for the most part endwalker will be well-recieved by the people that left after finishing the msq and will be coming back to do the post game msq and pandaemonium.
The main complaints have been variant/criterion dungeons, island sanctuaries and manderville weapons which have all largely been disappointment upon disappointment. If you don't care about that stuff and just get to the story it's pretty good even if the ending to the post game msq didn't end up amounting to much.

Literally none of these things got even close to "killing the game a second time". Also pretty much all of this is concentrated in the 3.0-3.1 patch cycle. It's noticeable that you gays didn't play Heavensward because you never mention any of the parts of the Heavensward patch cycle during which the playerbase was mostly happy. Nary a peep about how well-received 3.2 was, nothing to say about the wild misadventures in Weeping City. Hell, you're not even aware of the minor controversy surrounding putting Proto-Ultima as a tacked-on miniboss in Dun Scaith, because you didn't play the expansion!
HW was bad outside of the MSQ. It has less content. It was very imbalanced. It lacked a ton of logical modern QoL. The problem with discussing XIV is a lot of people base their opinions of expansions purely on the MSQ which I find to be crazy.
HW was an upgrade to ARR in every way. It's only bad if you compare it to what came after, which is unfair. On the other hand, EW is bad compared to what came before it. It lacks in every single way compared to SB and ShB.

Forays have a wider spread of content types, and allow for more casual drop-in/drop-out playing so you can go stop and get a drink of water or something. Variant and savage criterions are also one and done. Only the normal criterions have any replayability, and that's until you get the 25 clears for the mount, which is about as much replayability as an EX.
Forays also have alternate progression systems and lost actions which let you change up your playstyle. Bozja also came with an extra set of alliance raids.

You're supposed to design content around being fun when done many, many times in a MMO not just the first time. The uniqueness of a puzzle loses its impact after you run it once and you will be encouraged to run it a lot in this genre. Also FFXIV is only growing. Thirdly, they just overhauled the new player experience by making all the MSQ dungeons better THROUGH COMBAT changes.

ARR dungeons were not any more fun than modern dungeons for their few gimmicks. Its not riveting to go push some levers to open a door. Its not 'fun' to pick up a key from an enemy for the door 10 feet away.

ARR still has had the best dungeons in the series, just bogged down by the terrible questing from the MSQ (which still continues on for every expansion btw, the main story quests never ever get any better unless you're gifted or bestowed on a duty quest which happens very rarely)
ARR dungeons had things like a DPS check on a trash mob, an escort mission to keep an npc tank from trash mobs (was suppose to teach players about enmity before they removed it all making tanks brain dead to play)
I really can't believe these shb morons gaslit the entire MMO space saying their expansion was the greatest thing on earth when it came out.

Shadowbringers was straight up a substantial downgrade from Stormblood. The only thing ShB did better was the new forms of combat they added to forays (duels, critical engagements, mini-raids), and even then, ShB forays had utterly hideous maps for some reason.
It had a better MSQ than usual but that's it, ShB is an extremely overrated expansion. It's carried almost entirely by Emet-Selch.
I'll give it a watch, he's definitely more reliable than Zepla given that he does both story and can high end raid consistently to the point of producing guides.
I started during mid-HW but didn't even get to HW until probably late-HW patches since I was enjoying ARR so much. Progging Titan EX at level 50 on PS4 is something I will never forget.
Same the whole theme surrounding Eden was kino. The OST was bussin' the fighters were fun. Panda savage was so uninspiring it alone killed my love I had for the game.

There's really no excuse for the implementation of the base gameplay loop in island sanctuary. It really was just a test bed for future potential content and now that we are getting Diadem 2 (5) it becomes far more evident.

I miss things like this. Tank stance lowering damage output, cleric stance dancing, paladins having flash, which did no damage but had a high enmity yield plus blind. Frick the whiners, it made the game interesting which it absolutely is not right now.
The game as it is right now is a good example of devs going a little too far down the "convenience" slippery slope. Sometimes things being difficult or tedious for players is a good thing, otherwise it's all too bland

it would be a decent idea to balance off a big damage buff cooldown on a tank class if this wasn't a game that also has tight enrages that mean the tanks need to contribute damage on the regular. meaning that instead of berserk being "that thing you hit to get a bit of extra damage when you don't care about the pacify drawback because the thing died" and made it "the thing you hit on cooldown while hoping your healer doesn't grief you
it took the devs a while to understand that this isn't the same sort of game as ff11, where OG berserk would've been an ok move that still isn't used that often
that's kind of the issue, you have skills with the assumption that you need to use ALL of them on cooldown in some way, they removed the vast majority of situational moves
because the situational moves only exist because the devs didn't realize the sort of game they were actually making and thought they were making ff11 2.0
How hard is the Another version of the Criterions? EX difficulty? I know Savage apparently you have to do in one run or else it completely resets, which just sounds like wiener and ball torture.
They're somewhere between EX and early savage floors. Mechanics can be very rapid fire and Rokkon and Aloalo have some very quick adjusting you have to do. The savage ones are ultimate level.

people will tell you that collecting photocells, iroinc cape westwind waymarkers and luvia being a shitty turret boss while bored mentors make shitty jokes the entire time is a better first time experience for sprouts then cool stuff like this that actually teaches you mechanics and ties story/gameplay together in a cool way

Of all the allies who died for us, Haurchefant hurts the most. This guy took us in while everyone else turned their back on us. He always believed in us and even opened his home to us.

However it's not solely attributable to a single streamer and to have the growth of FF14 tied to a streamer, you're asking for the game to fall into the trap that WoW fell into, where the growth is dependant on content creators and streamers. Whereas although ff14 has them, albeit on a smaller scale, it doesn't need them to exist and be successful. Which is a very good thing, think of all the live service games which bend to streamer demands, and because drama and negativity drives traffic for a streamer, it's in their interest to demand more and create more drama around a game until the game itself breaks after bending too much to those demands.

Lower difficulty content can be satisfying to play and still remain at a lower difficulty. The ideal way to do that is to raise the skill ceiling on the personal end and allow for more skill expression in each job. Then people who are comfortable and want to improve can do so, and they won't end up sleeping through roulettes.

As someone who tried to make something of a career out of video games, it is a terribly empty existence, even when you're doing well at it. I don't excuse him, but I totally get it. The theme of the expansion affects almost none of the content beyond the dungeons. The 8 and 24 man raids thematically have nothing to do with the New World. Eureka didnt with Stormblood, Bozja didnt with SHB. The V&C content and DD content is completely isolated. So is the new space adventure stuff. And you're already bashing job design without even seeing what they do.

Mechanically the Nier raids were harder and more fun than previous 24 man series, outside of maybe Cid. The people bashing Nier only disliked it on concept and not actually on mechanics.

If people cant even put into words what they want, they shouldnt complain. Having a foray helps a lot. A foray plus V&C (especially if they keep fine tuning them) plus space exploration diadem+ishgard AND more DD is a ton of content.
The lack of a Foray is the biggest issue for EW obviously, an optional long form grind is a perfect way to get people who want something to do to do something. A lot of complaints though are how there are only X amount of fights for each raid tier or there are only X ultimates per patch. Raidloggers are not gonna go and do Eureka.
There should be a 144 player instance dedicated exclusively to bashing the skulls of frogposters in.

As someone who only recently got back into FFXIV, Endwalker wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. It definitely had its low points but the highs were decently high.
It wasn't as good as Shadowbringers but it's the falling action after the climax, it's not as bad as Stormblood so it makes the landing.

I do some post game stuff, not hardcore enough for stuff like Savage Raids but I usually do the Alliance and Normal Raid series. I think that judging the story and the postgame as separate things is better than lumping them together, especially when half of ARR's slog was because of all the godforsaken post patch quests. Ivalice was definitely the best Alliance Raid, but I still have a soft spot for Alexander with the normal series. Worst Alliance Raid by far is Void Ark, hard to really determine a worst Normal though, most of them are pretty even and Coil shouldn't even be considered the same as the rest imo. Maybe my opinions there will change after I sit down and do EW's post game content but for now I can only really consider what I've played so far.
Every expansion is only it's X.0 MSQ, yes. Adjusting your rating of an expansion while content is drip fed over the next two years is a moronic mindset. You are far better off rating the content that comes out later on it's own individual merits rather than trying to lump it in with the expac as a whole.
I think for the most part endwalker will be well-recieved by the people that left after finishing the msq and will be coming back to do the post game msq and pandaemonium.
The main complaints have been variant/criterion dungeons, island sanctuaries and manderville weapons which have all largely been disappointment upon disappointment. If you don't care about that stuff and just get to the story it's pretty good even if the ending to the post game msq didn't end up amounting to much.

Nary a peep about how well-received 3.2 was, nothing to say about the wild misadventures in Weeping City. Hell, you're not even aware of the minor controversy surrounding putting Proto-Ultima as a tacked-on miniboss in Dun Scaith, because you didn't play the expansion!

HW was bad outside of the MSQ. It has less content. It was very imbalanced. It lacked a ton of logical modern QoL. The problem with discussing XIV is a lot of people base their opinions of expansions purely on the MSQ which I find to be crazy.
HW was an upgrade to ARR in every way. It's only bad if you compare it to what came after, which is unfair. On the other hand, EW is bad compared to what came before it. It lacks in every single way compared to SB and ShB.
EW has male viera, SB and ShB don't. Simple as.

Forays have a wider spread of content types, and allow for more casual drop-in/drop-out playing so you can go stop and get a drink of water or something. Variant and savage criterions are also one and done. Only the normal criterions have any replayability, and that's until you get the 25 clears for the mount, which is about as much replayability as an EX.
Forays also have alternate progression systems and lost actions which let you change up your playstyle. Bozja also came with an extra set of alliance raids.
So what you're saying is they need the action system in V&C this time too. I think V&C would be fun if randomly in each run powerups would drop.

ARR still has had the best dungeons in the series, just bogged down by the terrible questing from the MSQ (which still continues on for every expansion btw, the main story quests never ever get any better unless you're gifted or bestowed on a duty quest which happens very rarely)
ARR dungeons had things like a DPS check on a trash mob, an escort mission to keep an npc tank from trash mobs (was suppose to teach players about enmity before they removed it all making tanks brain dead to play)

Shadowbringers was straight up a substantial downgrade from Stormblood. The only thing ShB did better was the new forms of combat they added to forays (duels, critical engagements, mini-raids), and even then, ShB forays had utterly hideous maps for some reason.
It had a better MSQ than usual but that's it, ShB is an extremely overrated expansion. It's carried almost entirely by Emet-Selch.

I miss things like this. Tank stance lowering damage output, cleric stance dancing, paladins having flash, which did no damage but had a high enmity yield plus blind. Frick the whiners, it made the game interesting which it absolutely is not right now.
The game as it is right now is a good example of devs going a little too far down the "convenience" slippery slope. Sometimes things being difficult or tedious for players is a good thing, otherwise it's all too bland
it would be a decent idea to balance off a big damage buff cooldown on a tank class if this wasn't a game that also has tight enrages that mean the tanks need to contribute damage on the regular. meaning that instead of berserk being "that thing you hit to get a bit of extra damage when you don't care about the pacify drawback because the thing died" and made it "the thing you hit on cooldown while hoping your healer doesn't grief you
it took the devs a while to understand that this isn't the same sort of game as ff11, where OG berserk would've been an ok move that still isn't used that often
that's kind of the issue, you have skills with the assumption that you need to use ALL of them on cooldown in some way, they removed the vast majority of situational moves
because the situational moves only exist because the devs didn't realize the sort of game they were actually making and thought they were making ff11 2.0
How hard is the Another version of the Criterions? EX difficulty? I know Savage apparently you have to do in one run or else it completely resets, which just sounds like wiener and ball torture.
They're somewhere between EX and early savage floors. Mechanics can be very rapid fire and Rokkon and Aloalo have some very quick adjusting you have to do. The savage ones are ultimate level.

they literally made ARR harder for newcomers btw. 1v1 cape westwind is more complicated mechanics wise then thordan normal now and rebalanced enemy/boss stats so 130 tomestone gear doesn't completely skullfrick everything means pulls are more complicated to deal with then they have been since 2.x (when the meta was to literally run past most pulls because activating the boss made them stop chasing you and let everyone warp into the boss room)

people will tell you that collecting photocells, iroinc cape westwind waymarkers and luvia being a shitty turret boss while bored mentors make shitty jokes the entire time is a better first time experience for sprouts then cool stuff like this that actually teaches you mechanics and ties story/gameplay together in a cool way
