yeah, I can’t tank nearly as effectively on drk. maybe I could if I was only doing the same content every day, but not knowing what level you will be synced to and what content it is can cause problems. my friend was leveling war and I had to tell him he needs to actually do mechanics. just because he can survive 2-3 vuln stacks in a level 80 dungeon doesn’t mean that will last forever. I think we were doing voidcast dais or gilded araya the other day and he actually got gear checked hard on tank busters lol

It depends on the mechanic. Mitting HH is basically drop everything for the first 6 seconds and then hit your invuln. Wicked step is particularly hard on DRK - the dot will rape your ass and you’ll be oor of the healers for a while as it sizzles your bum. Most TB you’ll just invuln tho.

But more importantly you aren’t fricking “blue dps”, you can cast your mits on the big dick warrior doing your job for you. TBN is targetable, so is oblation. Actually be a support or crawl back to being a blue parsing samurai.
drk in raids has it extremely easy because 9/10 times the tank mechanics are magic damage which means dark mind goes from meme to "rampart on a 60s cooldown"
you should be able to dark mind/oblation/tbn up for basically everything that you aren't using living dead on (second shortest invuln of the tanks, fully restores your hp with no other cooldowns) while sprinkling in shadow wall/rampart.
obviously dont forget to use dark mind/reprisal for aoe but if you can find a spot to hit them to cover an aoe + a tank mechanic then you're golden
drk has insanely good fricking mitigation for raids, TBN+oblation is probably the single best self mit in the entire game for tanks, you're able to rotate all your cooldowns around so freely because of it.
Their haste is multiplicative and some of their GCDs are like 3.5s
at the slowest gcd possible, viper awakening is about 11s. but it also scales with speed, and all 2 minute buffs are being moved to 20s in endwalker. and unlike reaper you don't have to do anything stupid to do two of them in a row
this means if you can get enough speed to make your awakening 9.x or 10s long (very doable) then you can fit two of them under buffs.
literally everything viper has scales with speed except for the uses of their twoblade mode (but the moves themselves scale, with your haste buff they start at about 2.55) and the obligitory 2 minute "give me meter for free please" button and since viper doesn't have a bunch of big nukes and is instead more about having consistently high damage constantly, you are further able to take advantage of getting all your shit faster instead of making sure the big burst nukes dhit crit.

i would consider this lowering the skill ceiling because the base line to actually play said jobs hasn't changed. casuals will always been able to do most content in this game with their eyes closed. now if we're talking about savage/ultimates all jobs just revolve around pressing your shit on cooldown and aligning yourself up with everyone else that is doing the same there is no flexibility., you feel as though you reached the maximum skill it takes to play your job by just practicing your rotation 1 time and thats it.
This is getting down to splitting hairs but consider that a bad player was never going to hit melee positionals in the first place. After a patch the positionals are removed and the bonus for hitting a positional correctly is just baked into the skill (See: Monk). Thus the player's overall skill didn't change but their overall performance has improved. This is precisely what raising the skill floor is.
I will agree with you that they've also lowered the ceiling by taking out certain tools that allow for skill expression, but I must insist that "the skill floor has literally never changed" is factually incorrect.

hmm then i think it's kinda just hard to judge ff cause both the content and the jobs change simultatniously so i guess a better way to say it is
savage/ultimates skill floor/ceiling have gotten raised as they are the hardest they've been mechanically, while jobs have gotten both their skill floor and ceiling lowered as they are now the easiest to get into while also being the easiest to master.
The basic knowledge requirements to play the job correctly have been removed, it is impossible to do poorly on most jobs if you just hit everything on cooldown. Someone that just hit everything off cooldown and didn't keep track of things that needed to be paid attention to previously is now doing better (floor has been raised)
the niche knowledge and tiny nuances and or fight to fight or party comp optimizations have been drastically lessened (ceiling has been lowered)

Blood 4 Blood (Now called Lance Charge) increased the damage you took and Jump used to animation lock you hard so you couldnt properly dodge.
All of those are gone. Jump is lightning fast you can barely see and doesn't "move" you like the previous did. You have the same bulk as any other melee dps.

BLM got huge changes that overall reduce your time in your filler ice phase and now will actively encourage you to cast more fire spells, Pictomancer looks schizophrenic as frick and sam will be the exact same job as it is now

One time I had Lapis on the roulette as a MCH and the other DPS was a NIN who did less damage than the healer

Enmity list is unreliable as a damage gauging tool, since healers typically generate way more than dps. Unless they weren't healing you at all, but I find that most roulette healers will heal you even if your self-sustain is enough to keep you alive indefinitely.
don’t spot heal on rdm lil bro, vercure is worse than dogshit. Clemency is actually good and can carry groups; vercurw can’t even outheal autos. Do rez people tho!
I am more likely to commend a dps that doesn't die and consistently uses their party buff than a RDM using vercure or rezzing. I don't give a shit if you can rez in roulette content, the healer can do that. Kill faster so we can all get out of here earlier.

I thought Stormblood savages were great. Kefka is still in my top 10 fights in the game. Exdeath and Chaos were tons of fun too. Sure there were memes like Ghost Train but overall Omega was a banger of a raid series. Also, they were able to deliver two ultimates on top of that. I concede that UWU is probably the worst ultimate for a number of reasons but UCOB was contextually the coolest fight we had seen in game at the time. Stormblood was arguably the peak of encounter design, looking back at all the expansions.

Looking back at Heavensward and Coils ones, I really liked the raids where it was just waves of enemies that had to be handled properly.
Even recently with the Thordan EX fight in Unreal, the whole Knights of the Rounds mechanics gauntlet wasn't as ridiculous as an Ultiamte Trio, but it was interesting.
Shadowbringers came out 5 years ago, if you're saying you've been playing a game for 5 years seething it's become worse, you have some kind of brain rot.

TOP has a 5% clear rate, so 5% is the absolute minimum of people who "do" ultimates, and that's only if you're moronic enough to believe that there are currently 0 groups progging TOP.
5% clear rate of characters being actively tracked that also have a max level character. The total percentage of those that cleared is less than you think when compared to the population as a whole.
Ultimate is not meant to have high clear rates. It's meant to be aspirational content, and it does that well by being the best designed battle content in the game and having some sick OST, mechanic and storytelling integration.
Every ultimate becomes easier each patch they are out. It's long term content that has lots of accessibility added over time. The most recent one is aspirational, older ones become accessible.
Ultimates ruin the game because the devs try hard with these 2 fights and then half-arse the rest of the game so we get shit alliance raids like Myths of the Realm. That pissed me off so much.

Controversially, you need to have done all the Manderville quests from the very beginning (There are questlines in ARR, HW, and StB) to access the relic weapon series in Endwalker (which comes with its own questline). They're pretty entertaining, so I enjoy them, but a lot of people who don't care about story/cutscenes are pretty mad about the fact. You should check them out for yourself some time.
Could they even go back to fight design when tanks actually had some responsibilities? I don't think current tank would be able to do more than stand still and press mit at correct time

It depends on the mechanic. Mitting HH is basically drop everything for the first 6 seconds and then hit your invuln. Wicked step is particularly hard on DRK - the dot will rape your ass and you’ll be oor of the healers for a while as it sizzles your bum. Most TB you’ll just invuln tho.

DoTs snapshot your mit, you know. Unless you're just invulning it (don't do this).
But more importantly you aren’t fricking “blue dps”, you can cast your mits on the big dick warrior doing your job for you. TBN is targetable, so is oblation. Actually be a support or crawl back to being a blue parsing samurai.
drk in raids has it extremely easy because 9/10 times the tank mechanics are magic damage which means dark mind goes from meme to "rampart on a 60s cooldown"
you should be able to dark mind/oblation/tbn up for basically everything that you aren't using living dead on (second shortest invuln of the tanks, fully restores your hp with no other cooldowns) while sprinkling in shadow wall/rampart.
obviously dont forget to use dark mind/reprisal for aoe but if you can find a spot to hit them to cover an aoe + a tank mechanic then you're golden
drk has insanely good fricking mitigation for raids, TBN+oblation is probably the single best self mit in the entire game for tanks, you're able to rotate all your cooldowns around so freely because of it.

its only the twinblade moves that are slow, your regular shit is ninja speed
at the slowest gcd possible, viper awakening is about 11s. but it also scales with speed, and all 2 minute buffs are being moved to 20s in endwalker. and unlike reaper you don't have to do anything stupid to do two of them in a row
this means if you can get enough speed to make your awakening 9.x or 10s long (very doable) then you can fit two of them under buffs.
literally everything viper has scales with speed except for the uses of their twoblade mode (but the moves themselves scale, with your haste buff they start at about 2.55) and the obligitory 2 minute "give me meter for free please" button and since viper doesn't have a bunch of big nukes and is instead more about having consistently high damage constantly, you are further able to take advantage of getting all your shit faster instead of making sure the big burst nukes dhit crit.

I mean, there's things you should do like optimize your acceleration for movement, and use manafication right after the melee part of the combo so you can get the buff on the big finishers, and try to get two resolutions in one buff window.

i would consider this lowering the skill ceiling because the base line to actually play said jobs hasn't changed. casuals will always been able to do most content in this game with their eyes closed. now if we're talking about savage/ultimates all jobs just revolve around pressing your shit on cooldown and aligning yourself up with everyone else that is doing the same there is no flexibility., you feel as though you reached the maximum skill it takes to play your job by just practicing your rotation 1 time and thats it.
This is getting down to splitting hairs but consider that a bad player was never going to hit melee positionals in the first place. After a patch the positionals are removed and the bonus for hitting a positional correctly is just baked into the skill (See: Monk). Thus the player's overall skill didn't change but their overall performance has improved. This is precisely what raising the skill floor is.
I will agree with you that they've also lowered the ceiling by taking out certain tools that allow for skill expression, but I must insist that "the skill floor has literally never changed" is factually incorrect.

savage/ultimates skill floor/ceiling have gotten raised as they are the hardest they've been mechanically, while jobs have gotten both their skill floor and ceiling lowered as they are now the easiest to get into while also being the easiest to master.

Someone that just hit everything off cooldown and didn't keep track of things that needed to be paid attention to previously is now doing better (floor has been raised)
the niche knowledge and tiny nuances and or fight to fight or party comp optimizations have been drastically lessened (ceiling has been lowered)

Ultimate is the only content in the game where you hold cooldowns. TOP on oatch was interesting as you had the choice of using 2mins or LB3 depending on what was better for your comp.

BLM got huge changes that overall reduce your time in your filler ice phase and now will actively encourage you to cast more fire spells, Pictomancer looks schizophrenic as frick and sam will be the exact same job as it is now

Given how infrequently I see comms come my way while playing RDM, dealing the most damage, scraping people off the floor, spot healing low health idiots with vuln stacks. Do (you) find your efforts recognized in roulettes or pug groups?
One time I had Lapis on the roulette as a MCH and the other DPS was a NIN who did less damage than the healer

Enmity list is unreliable as a damage gauging tool, since healers typically generate way more than dps. Unless they weren't healing you at all, but I find that most roulette healers will heal you even if your self-sustain is enough to keep you alive indefinitely.
Healers will only be #3 aggro in 2 scenarios:
- Someone died
- The DPS isn't doing their fricking job

I thought Stormblood savages were great. Kefka is still in my top 10 fights in the game. Exdeath and Chaos were tons of fun too. Sure there were memes like Ghost Train but overall Omega was a banger of a raid series. Also, they were able to deliver two ultimates on top of that. I concede that UWU is probably the worst ultimate for a number of reasons but UCOB was contextually the coolest fight we had seen in game at the time. Stormblood was arguably the peak of encounter design, looking back at all the expansions.

Even recently with the Thordan EX fight in Unreal, the whole Knights of the Rounds mechanics gauntlet wasn't as ridiculous as an Ultiamte Trio, but it was interesting.

Ultimate is not meant to have high clear rates. It's meant to be aspirational content, and it does that well by being the best designed battle content in the game and having some sick OST, mechanic and storytelling integration.

Every ultimate becomes easier each patch they are out. It's long term content that has lots of accessibility added over time. The most recent one is aspirational, older ones become accessible.

Controversially, you need to have done all the Manderville quests from the very beginning (There are questlines in ARR, HW, and StB) to access the relic weapon series in Endwalker (which comes with its own questline). They're pretty entertaining, so I enjoy them, but a lot of people who don't care about story/cutscenes are pretty mad about the fact. You should check them out for yourself some time.

They had to actually juggle between their enmity generator and actual best dps combos and also stance dance between dps stance and tank stance, healers could easily pull hate back then along with certain other jobs.

I remember there being an old one like that, but apparently the creator completely changed it, ruining everyone's settings and making it extremely shitty to use in comparison to how it was before. Then, when everyone complained about it and asked for the old version back, they had a meltdown and told everyone to frick off and that it was going to stay that way.

Tanks and healers natively have no DH on their gear, so they're not able to DH. You have to meld DH for them to gain the ability to DH/CDH.
