Was better than Bloody Palace Simulator 4.
But 5 makes both games irrelevant.

Thats because games are shit now. for a western release this game is a masterpiece.

No it really was the worst game with this franchise's name on it. Even DMC2 is better because it at least added ideas and features that were later perfected in DMC3 and DMC4.

DmC did nothing but take away and shit it's own pants.

DmC actually added alot of cool ideas and mechanics that made it into DMC5. DMC2 did nothing, maybe added rebellion i guess?

Also air combos, instant weapon switches, arguably layed the groundwork for Sin DT. I'm sure theres something else I'm missing too

The groundwork for sin DT was done in DMC1 when at the end of the game you literally devil trigger into Sparda.

              Anonymous

Sparda DT was functionally the same as a regular DT iirc, except Sparda has a giant hitbox. SDT in 2 has a bunch of special unique attacks with button combinations, and you're always floating/flying like Sin DT.

What are you on about? in Sparda DT you flew around and threw fireballs just like sin DT

Well, if you exclude the obligatory Kamiya Space Harrier segment, it's functionally a normal DT with a giant hitbox. And I guess you could throw fireballs too in that mode, I think it replaced your guns, but I don't remember.

ideas like special moves that don't require lock on
weapon switch on d-pad and holding triggers for weapons.
Having a sequel to improve on the mechanics would be fair, since you're trying to use that as some kind of praise for DMC2, lol.
Oh yeah, Disable BP timer and Must Style mode were new ideas too.
And unlisted moves like gun-charge stocking

I wouldn't have been so annoyed if DT had a cool DT design, but they didn't even add that. Confused, because they removed AT as well, I'd have thought maybe they didn't want to make a model for AT form, but since they didn't even make a new model for DT form, eh.

If they called it literally anything else it would go down as a pretty good hack n slash.

But trying to replace devil may cry with an "ok" product while also insulting the old characters and fanbase at every chance you get is just marketing suicide.

Nah, still fricking bland. The only thing it had going for it were the cool platforming sections, but they just broke up the core of the game which was the action.

DmC was unironically better than 5. If for nothing more than having more fun levels than 5's uninspired, dogshit, mindnumbing, mobile-tier, fricking shite. I loved the combat in 5 but couldn't keep playing for more than a few hours

Wasn't that good either and I'm sure that everyone involved would rather just forget about it

Still, had the best soundtrack in the series and some good level design.

I mainly replay mission 1, 4, and 13 on sos or god must die and the OST by combichrist(I think) was kick ass(goes with 3 and 5 nicely). Original release was buggy, writing quality(factor for reboot) fail to improve from the series already low standards, color coded enemies takes only weapon specific damage(if it wasn’t for that I say the game needs more frost/fire enemy variants), lack of taunts, lack of lock on(not directional moves) sucks as the gun arbiter/aquila ranged attacks would hit the wrong enemy, bosses to easy, no cool demonic/neutral/angelic dt for Donte(just player 2 oh colors and muh floating enemies) and style ranks are overwhelming forgiving/easy. The combat itself was fun but it could have been better. Quick switching combos was neat and I wish there was at least a mod for that in 3.

I got a few of my friends to play it on the basis of "so bad its moronicly funny" story but the gameplay bored them all the tears. Can't say I disagree.

Yeah. It's the definition of "it was a good game, just not a good -series name- game". One of the best games of that year too. Also it has objectively the best looking levels in the series.
