Yakuza 4 lighting is insane how did they do that

I could have took an even better pic, but it's still looks impressive for a PS3 game.
Being honest, I like this lighting more than in most modern graphics-heavy games

    It's all pure hand-crafted art.
Goes to show that skills > technical mumbojumbo specs. I'd much rather play games that look like Yakuza 3 to Zero than all the noisy and blurry shit we get these days (incl. the Dragon Engine pixel vomit).

That looks like shit and you might have brain damage if you think it doesn't.

It looks good but that's because it's basically touching up the assets of Yakuza 3. It's very handcrafted.

First, the screenshots you've posted are not from the PS3, it looked like ass on the original hardware.
Secondly, even those screenshots look meh.

And this is the lighting of a Half life 2 (that was made in 2004, but the particular screenshot is from 2002)
How did they do THAT? 8 years before yakuza 4

Like said earlier ITT: hand crafted art.
There legit used to be "lighting artists" in the dev team, tweaking and synthesizing the desired look.
The pre-rendered shadow maps also resulted pseudo-ray traced looks, adding to realism.

    >oooh ahh monke brain find pleasure in shiny billboard lights and reflections
you're a fricking moron those billboards are made to be appealing they try to sell you something hence "pretty" lighting
show me yakuza areas that don't look drab in natural lighting like prison or Y3 beach fricking disgusting and no cutscenes don't count

This. I like the PS3 era Yakuza games, but Kamurocho at night in Dragon Engine just looks so great to me.
Thinks like the lighting in Nakamichi Alley as you walk out to Pink Street just look great to me.

Why in the world would Yakuza 0’s popularity have anything to do with 7 being turn-based?

because westerns are idiots who ruin everything, no one in Japan liked the turn based shit but rather the homosexuals in usa liked it because they like to ruin everything
