    >Crash Bandifluke
the series that had 2 good games and fizzled out in popularity after ~5 years? People have seriously been overrating this game recently lmao.
That’s not to say Nights was any better, but implying that Crash had any impact on anything is laughable.

It was popular for all the time the PS1 was on the market and that's more than enough. It's done its job. Nights wasn't popular for even a month.

The 4 ND Crash Bandicoots games on PS1 sold 20 million copies combined by 2000, which means the series outsold the combined total of Saturn and Dreamcast consoles sold.
You can definitively say that Crash Bandicoot was more popular than the entirety of Sega at the time.
The reason the series fizzled out is because Universal sold the franchise to a shit publisher (Activision) that shackled the series with shit developers.
The biggest mistake Sony made going into the PS2 was not acquiring complete ownership of Crash Bandicoot.

Black person what the frick are you talking about. Crash 4, the remakes and that spin off came and went like a wet fart and Crash is utterly irrelevant again. The studio making them is going to be dead within a year.

It's actually more complicated than that. Because from the new knowledge we have, Crash 4 actually sold over 5 million copies. It appears that Activision killed it when they couldn't milk it with microtransactions.

Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity are good, just not great, while Huge Adventure and N-Tranced are excellent, even the "bad" titles like Titans or Mind over Mutant aren't bad, just bland and not as good as what came before, then the N. Sane Trilogy and Nitro-Fueled were amazing, and the sequel Crash 4, while not as good as the trilogy, was still good despite it's 100% completion issue.

I hope we get a Crash 5 or something like it in a near future, corridor platformers are fun and it's a shame the style died out, there's so much more than can be done with it, Crash 4 showed us that.

I was under the impression it was due to Naka not wanting to make yet another Sonic game, he resents being "the sonic guy". Sucks to suck I suppose, fun game if you enjoy the gameplay style.

Sonic R is proof that they were capable of making visually impressive Saturn games. Combine that with level design from Sonic Team and we'd have probably gotten something serviceable.

I've never seen an actual screenshot from this supposed EGM interview, so it's probably just another fake Miyamoto quote made up by seething Segatards. If it's even real, it's probably just misconstruing Miyamoto just being complimentary in that way Japanese are with competition and reading too much into it.

Anon, it was 1980s, when games could be shat out in half a year without issue. It helps that SMB was already in production (as a shoot em up) when Pac-land came out, so they could just revamp the current project instead of having to get funding and manpower for a new one.

I'm pretty sure RC wasn't even the first game to do mini planets like that. Really, it's just another instance of convergent ideas like the spear, the wheel, dinner tables, etc. Not every game idea needs to be directly inspired by another game's implementation of it.

Have Miyamoto and Nintendo in general ever admitted their sources of inspiration?
It doesn't matter if Miyamoto was lying or not, this interview doesn't make him look "cool".

Miyamoto is under contract to not talk about his ideas or where he gets them from, Nintendo does this for the majority of their staff. Can't blame them when Miyamoto is still seen as a golden child in the industry.

              >BEEEP

I just got back from America and there was this meeting on the Sonic show and it was just some fat frick talking about Armageddon and his kids or something. So anyway when you get this message, just uh. You know hang tight, I don’t got a cell and my tea-pourers bounced on me, but uh yeah. See you.

Panzer Dragoon, the car from Daytona, Akira from Virtua Fighter, Segata Sanshiro

Found it in the magazine itself, here's a link
        https://retrocdn.net/images/6/6e/ODCM_US_01.pdf

There is evidence that Miyamoto did ask Naka himself about NiGHTS 2 coming to Dreamcast.
        http://info.sonicretro.org/Yuji_Naka_interview_by_Official_Dreamcast_Magazine_(September_1999)

This info comes from Yuji Naka, who got convicted for fraud.

He wasn't convicted for fraud, he was convicted for insider trading.

No, he went to jail for insider trading, even though he didn't actually go to jail.

either way naka is a criminal and besides that has been well known to go on braindead finger pointing hate rants at people he holds a grudge against. He cannot be trusted as an impartial source.

          >Akira from Virtua Fighter, Segata Sanshiro

Akira appeared in : VF1, Virtua Fighter Remix, Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Fighter Kids, Fighters MegaMix, those weird VF CG things from Japan, and Akira was suppose to be the main protagonist of Shenmue when it was still being developed for the Saturn. Shenmue was planned as a Virtua Fighter RPG initially. Even Segata Sanshiro dresses up like Akira in the same type of gi. I will say, Akira was secretly the true mascot of the Sega Saturn console.

          Sonic (3D Blast, R, Jam)

          >Sonic (3D Blast, R, Jam)

Two Sonic games that were outsourced to Travellers Tales, one of them being an upscaled port of a Genesis/ Mega Drive game. Along with a token collection of 16bit Sonic games and a bonus 3D world to remind you'what could have been'.

Sega were out of control maniacs who made all sorts of oddball games over the years. Nights was merely another chapter in their sorry saga. That said, reinventing Mario into a 3d game required a lot of creativity and invention on Nintendo's part. People ask, why didn't Sega make a 3d Sonic game to rival Maro 64, but that is much easier said than it could have been done.

                90s okay - but WHICH 90s?
You think people still rode horse pulled carriages and rode steam boats?
We are not talking about 1870, we are talking about fricking 1998, close to 2000! The NES had come out over TEN years ago, the market DOMINATED by Japanese companies, most of all Nintendo, for over a decade!
If you wanted to go into game developing for also consoles in ANY way you better believe that sooner or later learning Japanese was a given to actually UNDERSTAND your business partners.
