I have over 200 hours in BOTW and basically just went straight to Ganondorf in TOTK.
BOTW is a glorified RPGmaker game, but in 3D. TOTK is just a massive DLC that adds sandbox mechanics.
BOTW survived for six years elsewhere, while TOTK died within months. The only notable parts of TOTK were the Ganondorf fight and the Zelink art.
