I started in wrath but my first max level was cata and i still play the same way and have fun. 1 or 2 months at the start, middle, and end of the expansion, play with irl friends and have a laugh, still doing the cycle in shadowlands and I'll do it again in dragon flight, and I'll still have fun
Played wotlk right before cata came along and it was wonderful, not long after cata arrived, i dropped it. Seeing just how shit things have gotten is indeed depressing, but i just accepted blizzard is dead and we'll never get the king back. As for the trannies, they don't give a shit, they don't care about game, competition, interaction or even fricking us, they just seem constant validation everywhere and it's getting frustrating and old. WoW is just the tip of the iceberg, in 10 years of time, they'll have ruined the whole industry, even indie studios will be troony fornication ground. That, of course, if they live until then.

The plot was clearly unfinished at release, jay lorr only shows up to mumble vague things about his power being big, and after castle nathria everyone just sort of stood around shuffling their feet. Then all the strikes and lawsuits hit, with 9+ months of the only "updates" being censorship and content removal. Suddenly a big chunk of the early maw storyline is cut, and we go to the double shadowlands (admittedly I quit long before any of this, so secondhand knowledge) where it turns out jailors scheme was just sargeras' scheme painted blue.

If I'm riding past enemies, they can knock me off of my mount, forcing me to either finish a fight that typically does not benefit me in any way, or run away from the enemy on foot and wait for them to stop chasing. If I'm trying to gather ore or herbs (which isn't profitable because multi-boxing druids haunt every server), I have to kill every nearby enemy or they'll interrupt gathering. If I try to pick up a profession, it's almost always cheaper to buy the finished product than to buy materials. And that's to say nothing of the mythic+ and raid grind they've been forcing.
So no, I will not resub. ActiBlizz had their last chance with Shadowlands, since I held onto hope that they might actually improve the game. They did not, and none of the changes they're making actually improve the game. It's created a bitter playerbase playing a poorly designed game that isn't worth my time in a void.

I always sub for the first and last month of every expansion, which are the only good periods of modern wow cycles tbh
