They produce these games with deliberate dependencies on their central servers, knowing full well that the game will not function for anyone on the planet the day that server goes down, and do nothing to remove those dependencies when they do finally make the choice to pull the plug. The least they could do put up a half-assed patch that frees the game from this requirement, but they have no obligation to do so, so they don't bother.
Why did you buy the game in the first place knowing this? And if you didn't, why do you care? Let other people touch the hot stove, they'll learn their lesson.

Origins and Odyssey are only really worth getting if you pick them up during a big sale. The museum modes, letting you explore the map without enemies and learn some more about the history (they do point out when they made shit up for woke reasons), are the best parts and I wish older AC games had the feature.
