1 has better writing/atmosphere
2 has better puzzles/gameplay mechanics
If I was forced to only ever be allowed to play one of the games for he rest of my life I would pick portal 2 as there will always be quality mods/community test chambers to play.
I wish I enjoyed Portal 2 co-op the way it was intended. The first time I played co-op, it was with someone who'd already played. The second time, I was the one who already played. You can't play a puzzle game like that because someone already knows the answers. I wish I'd just turned down the first guy.
Actually it was built so that the person who had played it before could have fun showing a new friend it.
Besides community co-op maps, it was built with the idea of both being fun blind and on replays.
The person who already played it should provide no advice and instead observe how the new player solves the puzzle, only acting in accordance with the new player's specific instructions.

The puzzles here range from easy to I have a horrible headache. If you consider yourself good at portal, this tiny map from the list is a satisfying challenge.

besides the >spin around until you find a single place on the wall you can put a portal on
levels between the actual testing chambers, P2 mogs the shit out of P1 and it's not even close
Haven't played HL Alyx yet? I've been enjoying it but holy shit the banter is peak bad video game writing. People used to shit on Resident Evil, that shit was camp gold compared to this actual cringe.
Portal 1's big flaw is it simply doesn't have the mechanics to build a decent puzzle game around. Portal flinging is way to easy to figure out and redirecting energy spheres is far too straight forward as well and the two things don't interact in any way.
If it did the solution, upon finishing the main game would have been to then go onto the test chambers that the community made. But that doesn't work because of what I just said.
Portal 2 fixes this. You finish portal 2, which honestly did feel more like a puzzle game, albeit an easy one. And you'll then find that the mechanics lend themselves to much more complex puzzles as proven by what the community makes with them.
Portal 2 feels less like a Puzzle game because of the constrained portalable surfaces guiding you. There are more mechanics to mess with, but Portal 1 does a better job with its core overall and doesn't overextend. Co-op adds coordination friction that's at least better to work with. Community puzzles don't count in the assessment, but that feature is a great addition.

or the ones in https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197970484475/myworkshopfiles/?appid=620 Notice how they're pretty much all covered in grey surfaces? The challenge in portal puzzles is not in covering walls in white because the challenge in portal was never about where the portals go.
>Community puzzles don't count in the assessment
They do and you already explained why they do. Because you finish the main game and are left wanting more. Portal 1 fails in this regard because the puzzle mechanics don't lend themselves to good test chambers. Portal 2's do. It's where Portal 2 succeeds and Portal 1 does not.
1 is an amazing classic and 2 is a worthy sequel that brings a lot of new fun
I think the humor and charm is superior in the original but 2 has a lot of style and atmosphere. was cool exploring more of Aperture and watching the animated world design unfold around you
all the puzzles in 2 are basically a room full of non portable surfaces with 2 squares of white wall where you HAVE to place your portals to solve it.
Its not a puzzle game, its a walking simulator
Borderlands 2 came after. Portal is what started marxist soi shit like "um, so that just happened!" and "I hecking love science". and now we have the killer vaxx and trannies grooming and mutilating children. thanks Gabe!
Funny ragebait thread you have here, you Black person homosexual
I like portal 2 and 1 because I'm not a jaded bitter frick like you
have a nice day
Sage in all fields
Portal 1 atmosphere and campaing is kino but it's all around that one twist and leaves no room for a sequel wich is the reason why the campaign of portal 2 is ass newbies think the humor of portal 2 is reddit but le random humor was trendy back then it is kinda cringe nonetheless tho
I don't think anyone will disagree with you

2 has coop which is better than singleplayer in 1 and 2

Well, that's good to know, and it's true that we did still have fun.
The person who already played it should provide no advice and instead observe how the new player solves the puzzle, only acting in accordance with the new player's specific instructions.
The campaign for 1 is better, but the workshop levels for 2 have the best puzzles ever designed for a video game.
>but the workshop levels for 2 have the best puzzles ever designed for a video game.
Like?
Mel Stories or Reloaded I recall being solid fanmade campaigns.

anybody played portal revolution?
Conley is my wife.
The humor in 2 is the most obnoxious shit I've had the displeasure of deal with in a video game

2 is actually so much better than I think the only reason why people say 1 is better is to be a homosexual contrarian
Nah, 1 is better. better atmosphere, better soundtrack, better everything
>better atmosphere
>better everything
Those are 2 chapters out of 9. And yes, those are the ones everyone remember, but the whole game is not like that, sadly.
1 is a tighter more focused experience. Also betetr creepier atmosphere that 2 couln't replicate.
Has the big flaw of by the time it has ended teaching you the mechanics it's almost over, but it's a flawless 3 hour experience.
>Has the big flaw of
>but it's a flawless
If leaving you wanting more is a flaw, yes.
Portal 1 has the same flaw as Hotline Miami 1. Game is a big tutorial, by the time it ends the game does also.

Portal 2 literally ruined western society.

Nobody outside of Ganker cares.
Normal people just enjoy both. It's not like they're radically different or made by different people.
2 drags on for faaar too long.
These games are too easy. And that is a FACT.

Narbacular Drop was the best one.
