anon there's more visual and mechanical variety in what we've seen so far than there's been in every other 2D Mario combined
I don't see it. The world themes might be fairly typical for a platfomer, but the execution stands out. Shining Falls is a waterfalls world made of weird geometric ruins. The desert world is half covered by a giant fortress. The forest world seems to have you descending into a creek finding progressively more poison and mushrooms. Even the fire world is made of the remnants of huge plants burned by the lava.
Also the levels reflect well the places you see in the world map. At the start of the first level you can see the Mushroom Kingdom beyond the sea. When you progressively move from the plains to the hills and mountains the backgrounds change accordingly. Seems like there won't be blatant palette swaps levels.

I'm glad they got rid of points but I'm sad they got rid of the time limit. Most people didn't liked it but I enjoyed the fact that I shouldn't waste my time and when the little tune of "Oh shit the time is running out" comes up it urges you to go fast.

I don't get the complaints with the jump sound, it sounds like an HD version of the ones from the NES games. On the other hand, the more gameplay footage I saw the more obnoxious the color commentary from the flowers and voice lines from ghost players got. People say the visual design is forced but I'm finding the sound design is actually way too much and the flowers are shaping up to be the worst part of the game, they better add options to mute that shit.
