I see this game posted all the time. What is it, exactly? A board game, I get that much. What's the rundown on it? Might pick it up since it's free.
it's a board game, you play on a map with 4 players. each player can play a character with different stats and abilities and bring 10 card with different effects to the game. the goal is to collect stars (currency goals) or collect wins (battle goals) by either stepping on specific tiles or bullying the frick out of other players.
it's a fun game if you really like RNG and just mindless shit

90% correct, each game usually lasts 30 mins, depends on how chaotic the shit is. but it is fast paced once you get used to it

The DLC doesn't quite sit right with me though.
There's no minigames, probably closer to Dokapon. You bring the 10 cards, but there's only 1 deck for all 4 players, so you'll frequently receive cards that they brought.
It's a decent game, but i quit a long time ago after consistently having the worst luck every game.

gotta admit, the interesting characters are DLCs, mainly because base game is designed on when it released (which is 2013) and it's basic as frick. but you can just choose which DLC you want to play by watching other players use them, then buy them later if you're hooked.
also there is weekly free 2 DLC character rotation so you can try them

It's free because the base game characters are hot garbage compared to the typical modern DLC character who gets busted ass abilities "but she's balanced because she has 5REC".
You also need to buy the 3 card expansion packs to be able to even open packs for them in your account.
That said, last time I checked there was a free to try character per week, the card packs will set you back like $6, DLC characters are sold for like $3 a pair and ingame cosmetics are achieved through gameplay only. It is still scummy but as far as monetization schemes out there, it's probably the least of them.
By the way, before buying characters, compare prices on fruitbat's store website https://sites.fastspring.com/fruitbatfactory/product/buy which gets you steam keys. You typically save some pennies there unless there's a huge steam sale going on.

I stopped playing after like 10 new character DLCs came out or something like that so I'm not totally up to date, but a lot of the DLC characters were legitimately not that impressive. Most of them just look flashy but are straight up worse than the stat stick original characters and if you want to play based around a hyper/card draw then nothing is better than Ubiquitous. Sherry is probably one of the best DLC characters just because she has good stats.
The card DLCs on the other hand are definitely going to affect your winrate with pretty much any character though, although to what extent depends on your character and what DLC. The later card packs tend to be awful gimmicky garbage that will only help if you're playing a gimmicky garbage character to begin with.

No the fricking aren't. Especially not with how ridiculous some of the DLC characters can be. Hero Kai, Hyper Ellie, Jailbird Mimyuu, Nico, and Cook are so absurdly overpowered that you have a better chance of winning the lottery than beating these characters with a base game character outside of QP since she's the only one from the base game without a glaring weakness.

You laugh but on release, Jailbird Mimyuu was disgustingly unfair to play against, and even after being "nerfed", she's still insanely good. Having the ability to reposition yourself on the board at will is a really strong utility, not counting the other buffs her hyper gives. Nico on the other hand is overpowered solely due to her hyper being everyone's hyper, with a few exceptions like Affluence and Magical Revenge but still.
I main Nico so I'm biased, but her hyper isn't good. It's fun, but most of the time it gives cards that aren't useful. I still like it because every once in a while it gives me a bullshit combo and I get to laugh, but most of the time I get hypers that don't help at all.

Shes flexible and can be resilient if she gets hypers but she's not predisposed to be good at anything in particular.
The fact that QP is flexible is what makes her better than most base game characters. Not many other characters are, and that tends to be hand in hand with their glaring weaknesses, like Aru and Fernet's difficulty in battles, Suguri being unable to take a hit, Yuki having the worst hyper in the game, etc.

In QPs niche of flexibility alone she already gets outshined by Marc and Kai because they are tacitly stronger in stats and have hypers that allow them to set up plays with better consistency. Meanwhile Peat and Fernet have better gameplans that are centered on card hoarding.
QPs weakness is the same as her strength. It is that she's not particularly good at anything, so she is objectively worse than other characters who specialize at any given task.

DLCs have a gameplan, you can't exactly do that sort of thing with the likes of QP or Sora, which are just "roll dice until I kill"
Back when I played, I picked Krila and hoped we'd get a giant stage like the Winter one so I could stall long enough to infect the board with traps. The most fun thing to do isn't necessarily winning, it's being as much of an butthole as you can while doing it.
