I did. As a child. Liked shooting cool robot dinosaurs and the mildly interesting story. Bought the sequel out of nostalgia. After 10 hours through and roughly midway through the game, I immediately realised how big of a mistake I had made.

That's odd. Forbidden West has a weaker beginning and ending than Zero Dawn, but a noticeably stronger middle section. Unlocking the base and populating it with native friends who get to learn about technology and the truth of human history should have been where the game was providing the most enjoyment.

Despite this you're constantly showered with worthless lootboxes full of trash like fast travel consumables which are doubly worthless because you get an infinite fast travel item like 2 hours in the damn game. The entire system is so bad. >The exploration is also bad with lame railroad cinematic climbing with the most embarrassing slowmo jumps trying to make it seem more impressive than it actually is. The collectables are the most insulting thing in the game. Go collect all this junk and bring it back for your grand reward of... more lootboxes. Not even a short cutscene or even a change in dialog from the turn-in NPC who keeps telling you to go collect the junk. The game also gives you a mount system to ride certain machines but it's so poorly implemented because the controls are clumsy and awkward as frick, mounts struggle with any kind of terrain and draw aggro so just running with stealth armor is faster if you don't fast travel
Forbidden West fixes most of them. Human combat is still bad but it has far less human fights. They improved melee though so you can do Ninja Gaiden combos on them(sadly not necessary even with armor on them because headshots just kills them). Forbidden West sadly has like 5 dungeons too.
NTA but I find impossible to believe that those games have good gameplay after seeing /u/ praise them from a gameplay standpoint.
To me it's a pretty red flag for any game gameplay-wise
They don't have good gameplay. The only 2 things I can say somewhat positively are that 1) the environments are pretty and 2) the backstory of the futile war with the replicating machines just buying time for the zero dawn project to finish is interesting.

This guy isn't even doing it right. You use the elite ropecaster and just tie down any apex enemy in a few hits and then peck away at them rinse and repeat.
The worst enemies in the game are Apex slitherfangs though, especially since getting their components off is nearly impossible with how much they move around.

Ropecasters are useless when they can get out of it in like 2 seconds. Ropecasters are only good for isolating other enemies and focusing on one.

It's been a while since I played but I had the complete opposite experience, there's one ropecaster in the game that is extremely OP. Yes, they escape from it but it allows you to do a massive amount of damage before they do, I think it was the elite ropecaster or whatever. It tied down most enemies in one single hit and the larger ones a few hits.
I remember using it extensively to farm components late in the game for armor upgrades. Speaking of which, the amount of bullshit grind for some of those armor upgrades was the worst part of the game.

Problem with ropecasters is it's duration. It's duration is fine if you aren't dealing any damage, the moment you start to do damage they get out of it almost instantly. It's good for applying elemental status though.

Its quite worse Sekiro combat with lnot that well designed bosses, which would be ok, but It has such massive input delay i dont know how anyone can enjoy it. The story had like 1 decent scene, but the rest is like going through a MMO story with Eve just standing there emotionless. That said i also find Eve looks meh and looks the same as like 2 other characters in the game. She is like the opposite of 2B, who has an eye catching design and i felt the point of the game is mostly about dressing her up and thats too homosexual for me, That said Lily is greatly designed and feels like she is from a different game. I got the physical disc from a friend, so i didnt pay a dime. Would have felt like a moron if i bought into the current ad campaign. Its the last Sony exclusive of 2024 i think too.

The original version of Odin Sphere is included with Leifthrasir so there's no reason not to get that version. The remake's gameplay is vastly improved over the original THOUGH and imo its Vanillaware's best game.
The Until Dawn remake is an excuse to release on PC, and I'm hoping the Gravity Rush remakes, assuming they're real, also are.
I kind of like the Horizon games and I appreciate that most of their PC ports are god tier, but the only way Sony will ever get me to actually buy something of theirs on PC (as opposed to pirate) is a bundle of Gravity Rush 1 and 2.

Also if I remember my strategy was ropecaster, then the chain gun dart gun whatever it was with frozen ammo to insta freeze the enemy, then switch to a hunter bow with high DPS and just barrage them with arrows.
Honestly the game becomes broken when you can just abuse the freeze effect on most enemies to not even bother targeting specific components.
Which is probably why the Arena challenges just arbitrarily lock you into some shit-tier setups and put you up against annoying enemies with inflated health pools that you have to kill in a time limit that is consumed by the 10s animations of Aloy getting tossed around by every time they sneeze.
Sure, here's a bunch of warrior bows and a sling that doesn't target the enemies' elemental weaknesses, now go kill a couple of crocs and a fricking Tideripper in three minutes.
If the game makes a specific goal to make the character not look shit, then it will be justified. Chances are the goal will be to make uglier characters.

I honestly believe both Switch Zelda games are gonna get some sort of remake/remaster for the Switch 2 since they both run like ass.
If Nintendo arent massive morons, Switch 2 will be backward compatible, and they'll advertise it as running beloved Switch games better. Hell, if they told me i could put my XC2 cartridge in a Switch 2 and have it run at a stable framerate and resolution, I'd be tempted to buy one day 1.

No one who's played both would say this. The gameplay systems in Leifthrasir are so drastically different from the original that they are fundamentally different games, even if the story and graphics are mostly unchanged.

The original version of Odin Sphere is included with Leifthrasir so there's no reason not to get that version. The remake's gameplay is vastly improved over the original THOUGH and imo its Vanillaware's best game.

The Until Dawn remake is an excuse to release on PC, and I'm hoping the Gravity Rush remakes, assuming they're real, also are.
I kind of like the Horizon games and I appreciate that most of their PC ports are god tier, but the only way Sony will ever get me to actually buy something of theirs on PC (as opposed to pirate) is a bundle of Gravity Rush 1 and 2.

Also if I remember my strategy was ropecaster, then the chain gun dart gun whatever it was with frozen ammo to insta freeze the enemy, then switch to a hunter bow with high DPS and just barrage them with arrows.
Honestly the game becomes broken when you can just abuse the freeze effect on most enemies to not even bother targeting specific components.
Which is probably why the Arena challenges just arbitrarily lock you into some shit-tier setups and put you up against annoying enemies with inflated health pools that you have to kill in a time limit that is consumed by the 10s animations of Aloy getting tossed around by every time they sneeze.
Sure, here's a bunch of warrior bows and a sling that doesn't target the enemies' elemental weaknesses, now go kill a couple of crocs and a fricking Tideripper in three minutes.
Yeah, the arena challenges are a pain in the ass especially on the harder difficulties. Genuinely the only part of the game I had any struggle with.
Also the fact anytime you get hit you get stuck in that animation for 3 seconds makes it that much harder.
