but still, it plays like the first game so i just see it as more levels to play

      Anonymous

      Kind of agree with
Their was a massive spike in the difficulty overall that made certain parts feel more like luck than skill based and certain characters sucked ass. The story felt very convoluted and all over the place.
Personally I think they should have spent more time balancing certain levels and play testing differnt charcters and probably should have either cut down on the story or made a third game or even a DLC.
Than again the convolution probably was intentional, but I hate it when games do that shit.

Hot take but for me HLM2 is superior to the original.
Whilst HLM is the more streamlined and polished experience, it didn't really leave much of an impact on me. Really felt like it got carried by its presentation even if the gameplay loop was addictive.
HLM2 is a lot more ambitious, features multiple characters intertwined in a non-linear narrative that tried to expand up on the previously established gameplay loop through the use of gimmicks that mostly served to its detriment. Yet despite the gameplay feeling undercooked and inconsistent, it does feel like the game itself has honed in on recontextualizing the events of the previous game whilst further fleshing out the themes and developing interesting lore elements. The first game also used environmental storytelling and symbolism, but the sequel used them to a far greater extent, to the point the game feels a bit avant garde.
I really enjoyed the characters and narrative which I found fun to pick apart and analyze.
So despite HLM2 reaching greater lows in terms of gameplay than the OG, it reaches heights the original could never therefore in my book, it's the superior experience.

I used to play it on KB&M but playing it on controller is honestly miles better. New players tend to think "aiming" is the key, but in actuality you can pretty much get an easy kill just by unloading all of your bullets at their general direction, and you don't really have time to conserve ammo when you are keeping your combo for the high score, constantly mag dumping, throwing weapon, and switching it is the real key to high score, and controllers are more suited for that.

I don't see the problem. I mainly play PC and HM is definitely slightly easier with a mouse, but it's not like ammo preservation matters unless you suck ass at the game.

I fricking hated how the regular enemies in the original had a random chance of surviving a bullet and how the bosses were incredibly easy to beat. The reliable damage system alone makes the sequel far better. Not to mention that it comes with a level editor. Some of the custom campaigns, like Wild Style and the Hunter trilogy, are legit better than the levels the devs came up with.

just wear zack and git gud at comboing, you don't have to get full combos just combo most of each floor

      >Combo and go fast
      >Farm high point executions with a few combos mixed in

      Anonymous

Carl is not as good anymore since they nerfed the points you gain from executing with the drill. I maxed every map by just using the combo extending mask. If you find the right line you can just clear the whole map in one combo and get enough for A+. Or at least most of the map, about 80% chained together is enough. For example in hot and heavy you can carry the combo from the ground floor into the bottom right staircase (Spa floor) and clear that out with a combo. Then you can break the combo adn basically take it slow since you already have a 50 kill combo or something

        >Carl is not as good anymore since they nerfed the points you gain from executing with the drill.

Thats true but what I like about the HM series is that it is short and designed level to level. I am extremely tired of roguelikes after playing like ten of them, after a while you start seeing a pattern. I also do not think gameplay addicting enough to get me to play a game forever is a good thing. Id rather play 10 8 hour games than play one than takes 80 hours. I feel like most roguelikes are traps that keep you from developing and hotline miami had a good nationalism vs patriotism message. Synthetic has no message its just pure gameplay through and through which is fine but when it starts to put in enough random elements it stops being worth researching and starts being a bit of a casino crack. I try to stay away from such games as much as I can now

trends come and go, in today's climate instead of lasting a decade it ends up being half of the length.
perturbator is probably the only one that'll continue to do stuff in the style of synthwave with a difference approach in style for each new album he releases, new model has the highest of highs (god complex) but one of the lowest of lows (ventablack, it's really bad, really bad).
Lustful sacraments is pretty consistent with their songs, excess is a great song and god says is the highlight.
carpenter brut's has been nothing but lesser degrees of what made his stuff good, only notable things are hairspray hurricane and day stalker/night prowler, other than that it's pretty generic stuff.
But in general synthwave is pretty much just either dead or people copying roller mobster or turbo killer.

      Anonymous

Synthwave was what mainstream music shoulda been. Instead we get nonstop mumblerap and genuinely disgusting shit like "WAP". Had the pleasure of listening to that in a car with coworkers earlier. I'm not a prude but jesus that shit was vile.

wtf even happened to the 2010s... I swear they like ended in 2016 and we've been stuck in limbo ever since

Cultural decades don't usually sync up with actual time. For example the cultural 90s ended with 9/11 and the 9/11 era ended around 2008-2009. It does seem like nothing's changed since around 2010, though. We're still here, Wojaks are still here, most of the same sites popular in 2010 are still popular (except even worse ones like tiktok). I don't really look forward to it changing because I know whatever comes next is gonna be worse.

I've heard you have to fight russians there. I don't want to be brainwashed by propaganda of the Hollywood type, so I'm not sure if I should play it. Italian gangs, israeli gangs, Mexican cartels are all fine, but Arab or russian bad guys are a bit of a dirty CIA founded meme to make the masses more accepting of military interventions. So I'm not watching iron man, but this game is not American. So it could be internalized self-perpetuaring propaganda. Or a reasonable premise since Russian gangs do exist. Is it brainwashing, Ganker?

the coronel wasnt a bad guy. he was close to his soldiers and lost a war.
and both the presidents of the us and the soviet state deserved death, but its true that the retaliation was to be expected and you could argue that non patriot would rather live under the soviet occupation than die and that this is the correct decision, this is your decision to make, serve the guys that nuked your country or kill them

Nah come on, HM2 has pretty lenient combo timers. Although level 2 does have that elevator transition that makes the s rank a b***h if you aren't autistic

I remember S ranking Homicide is basically frame perfect because of that elevator

Could any of the characters have stopped the bombing before it happened or was 50 Blessings' plan too entrenched by that point to be stopped?

      Anonymous

well, there's a lot of things that would have had to have happened first.
      1. jake would have needed to not get captured at his final level, and take the diskette on the 50 blessing guy's desk
      2. evan would have needed to make the connection between 50 blessings and the masked murderers which, evidently, he did not
      3. evan and pardo would have had to, i dunno, drive up to DC and kill all the 50 blessings agents before they could shoot the US and USSR prez's

I know he's there to help Evan, be a narcissistic son of a b***h and also one of the many characters that shows Jacket's influence on Miami but goddamn it I wanted Manny to be the hard boiled good cop that is always hunting maniacs like the Fans (deserved their deaths and how they went) and the Mutilator
