unova really is pokemerica. most powerful region in the world, self-made, constantly seethed at by lesser beings. there's nowhere else i'd rather live.
Don't blame the Pokémon, blame the mechanics. With access to Clear Smog and Rage Powder, Amoongus sounds like a decent pick up front. The issue is that the games do not enforce a Sleep Clause and there are so few things that actually negate powder and specifically Sleep. Need more proof? Looked what happened to Dark Void, what two of the 4 terrains prevent (which is mostly irrelevant in formats where the terrains are not a byproduct of using a specific Pokémon), and to a certain extent how sleep worked in PLA.
If there was specifically a Sleep Clause, I think you would see a lot more Nuzzle/Discharge combos because this would make Paralysis the most consistent and useful status.

I don't play Smogon formats at all, let alone use Showdown. I am going off of what I experienced in early gen games to now, Stadium 1 & 2 as well as Colosseum had Sleep Clauses.
What the frick is a sleep clause
Sleep Clause is a very simple rule that could be added to battles in the Stadium games where you cannot have more than one Pokémon asleep on a team at one time.
Oh, that sounds like it would be a good rule in a metagame where it's 1v1 and you had to waste a turn waking up from sleep, and also the limit for sleeping wasn't 2-3 turns.
Sleep is just a flat out busted status. If you are put to sleep you should wake up when you take direct damage. there, now sleep can function as something you can use to get some free turns of switching out, setting up, getting a sub/screens up, etc. Exception to this obviously being Rest, which shouldn't change, hell you could even make a new condition for it called "deep sleep" similar to how we have poison/badly poisoned.
Remember the Gen 5 sleep mechanics?

not sure what they did in PLA but when you say this it makes complete sense that any sound move should wake up all sleeping pokemon on the field
Physical electric moves erased drowsy if I remember right. Also I agree sound based moves should wake up Pokemon, if not the turn of use the next one.
