If you like progression raiding content it's been good since at least Stormblood. If you are capable of making friends (unlike the average Gankerirgin) then it's a great game to find friends and hang out in between little bites of casual gameplay.

As in, it depends on what you want from a game. If you like story, sidequests, social shit, fishing, collecting, whatever, there's plenty.
If the main and really only valid form of content for you is tossing yourself at the same training dummies every week with a group of people so that you can get +1 to your number on an external site, and you want to be put on a treadmill to earn the "privilege" of having a chance at maybe sort of an upgrade if RNG is with you, then no.

Melee class with dual wield daggers that gives nice buffs and does debuffs. Good at doing damage in specific scenarios and can also heal decently. It uses TP instead of MP. In FF11, TP was gained by hitting mobs/getting hit.
A lot more debuffs than just TA. Debuffs like making everyone who hit the mob gain a drain type effect so they heal a bit when they hit the mob. Or debuffs that when you hit the debuffs mob you gain stats.
I'm just being silly though, kinda. FF14 is not designed to have a job like DNC. Or any of FF11s more unique jobs, really.

If your break gauge is getting chunked by Soul Shielding you should just Block instead until you get a good flow for cycling between the two....if you mean actual parries then you have to just practice on that specific boss or enemy a bunch

Apparently there are some boring people who are annoyed that ROG turned into a weeb mudra caster instead of just getting bigger swords and being a generic dual-wield job, it's for them.
Personally I'd like ROG->THF with some more item and chance mechanics, evasion and misdirection. But VPR so far is just sword arts and potentially poison dots.
So far, the teasers make Viper look like it has nothing going on beyond its weapon gimmick. It's probably not all there is to it, but SE are doing a terrible job of showing that.

Having at least one treadmill to mindlessly plug away at between real content drops is a good thing. This is why the older Relic grinds were a good thing, it added something continuous to work towards when there wasn't anything new like a Savage tier to be working on. Now the key difference is that WoWrats think that the entire game should be one long, endless treadmill and that any activities that don't service said treadmill in some way are worthless and don't belong in the game.

Just seems strange to have a game that seems to rail fairly hard against the idea of treadmills beyond some outliers, and want to turn that into treadmill central.
I don't totally disagree with you that having at least one thing a little like that isn't bad, but I guess I don't assign as much value to it as others because I've grown disillusioned with grinds for the sake of grinds.
Treadmills as in gear progression? No one wants those.
Repeatable fun content with a wide array of cosmetic rewards? Yes, please. It's what was missing from EW's patch series with there not being an Eureka/Bozja.
Repeatable and fun is kind of limited, though. Everything runs its course and unless you want a soulless carrot on a stick grindfest, you kind of need to strike upon a balance there. A bit of grind can be okay, repeatable content can be good, but all forms of content have limited shelf lives. Some more than others. So long as none of it insists upon itself past its expiration date, it's fine.
Also, hopefully with some better environments and stories.

What was it like?
Melee class with dual wield daggers that gives nice buffs and does debuffs. Good at doing damage in specific scenarios and can also heal decently. It uses TP instead of MP. In FF11, TP was gained by hitting mobs/getting hit.

A lot more debuffs than just TA. Debuffs like making everyone who hit the mob gain a drain type effect so they heal a bit when they hit the mob. Or debuffs that when you hit the debuffs mob you gain stats.
I'm just being silly though, kinda. FF14 is not designed to have a job like DNC. Or any of FF11s more unique jobs, really.

If your break gauge is getting chunked by Soul Shielding you should just Block instead until you get a good flow for cycling between the two....if you mean actual parries then you have to just practice on that specific boss or enemy a bunch
Your jobs have separate break gauges so you can switch jobs if you need more gauge while the other charges back up
Somehow it needs to work in raids, so it probably won't have timed taming of overworld mobs.
It having to work in raids means targetable pets are out, since every raid since ShB is not designed around targetable pets.

Personally I'd like ROG->THF with some more item and chance mechanics, evasion and misdirection. But VPR so far is just sword arts and potentially poison dots.

I've never seen anyone want treadmills. All I've seen are requests for gear to be more meaningful.
Having at least one treadmill to mindlessly plug away at between real content drops is a good thing. This is why the older Relic grinds were a good thing, it added something continuous to work towards when there wasn't anything new like a Savage tier to be working on. Now the key difference is that WoWrats think that the entire game should be one long, endless treadmill and that any activities that don't service said treadmill in some way are worthless and don't belong in the game.

Repeatable fun content with a wide array of cosmetic rewards? Yes, please. It's what was missing from EW's patch series with there not being an Eureka/Bozja.
Repeatable and fun is kind of limited, though. Everything runs its course and unless you want a soulless carrot on a stick grindfest, you kind of need to strike upon a balance there. A bit of grind can be okay, repeatable content can be good, but all forms of content have limited shelf lives. Some more than others. So long as none of it insists upon itself past its expiration date, it's fine.
Also, hopefully with some better environments and stories.

There used to be critique from all sides, but it quickly shifted to circling the wagons because "the chuds just hate our brave trxns goddess lion mommy because she's so perfect and brave" and all discussion about the actual performance got brushed under the rug.
Widely accepted that it's trash but most people steer away from talking about it at all because any time the topic comes up the thread gets swarmed by the defense force and the whole thing is ruined.
