I emulated this back in the day and remember it being unique and cool but I never finished it. How is it?
Got strong visuals, but the game becomes too convoluted right at the Blood Palace difficuilty spike and there is too much mindwracking shit if you decide to go for full city development (that gives you essentially nothing but good feels). It does nail the ending though, it's fantastic and hits you right in the feels.
My favorite part of the game was the world-building after resurrecting humans(which is completely optional and doesn't give you any reward apart from personal satisfaction). You can expand the 5 main cities in Europe,America, and Australia by helping with the discoveries of electricity, phones, airplanes, etc.
Seeing the towns grow from the medieval ages into modern civilizations was incredibly satisfying.
>resurrecting humans
Huh? You mean human settlements? Cause you can't progress the story withought killing the Doppelganger.

He likely meant advancing human society.
One of the very best games ever made. Personally I like secret of evermore more.
Do you mean light Ark killing dark Ark? Because that happens near the end of the game.
You can start with expanding Loire after Elle kills king Louis
No, I mean the boss Doppelganger at the top of the snow mountain, near future tiben monk village.
Yeah, I was referring to the resurrection of humans that happens after beating that boss, not the village of Crysta in the underworld.
Yes. Restoration of the world was a great journey. And then there's that ending. There are no hidden gems anymore in this day and age, but Terranigma would almost qualify.
I played it but never finished. What was the ending? I don't care about it being spoiled as I'm not going to play it again.
In short the MC dies. But it was done beautifully
He returns to that cursed underworld (as crystal?)
no, Essentially goes back in time, back to the underworld as a promise to his love and she opens the door wondering why a bird is there but iirc, realises just before THE END that its his spirit returning to her
holy shit where did you find this fanart?
Also, I really hope that it was light Ark who knocked on that door since the two Arks were reincarnated into one to defeat dark Gaia, but at the end light Ark says that they should return to their respective worlds
The developers left the ending up to interpretation, hence they deliberately don't show who or what is knocking on that door.
They said as much in an interview.

>Terra-what?
>Terra ligma balls
I loved the story as a kid sadly the gameplay kind of sucks
The Quintet game that needs way more love is Actraiser 2.
Elden Ring if he Terranigma
terraNIGma
Wow... japs are so racist putting that word in the title.
Learn Japanese. Title is creation of heaven and earth.
i think it gets love. it is a good game
How tragic are we talking? Like bittersweet "that was worth playing" or grimdark "why did I waste my time?" I prefer happy endings honestly.
>bittersweet "that was worth playing"
That. It's not cheap shock value meant to feel like a kick in the balls, but it's not the happiest of endings.
Thanks. Sounds kino.
You forever destroy the presence of Dark Gaia that originally ushered the appearance of the 13'th hour but at the cost of erasing everything related to it - the crystal world, all Crysta villagers' copies and yourself (still being the Dark Gaia's Hero even after The Light Gaia exploiting a loophole to give you more time to stop Dark form ressurecting and restaring the conflict). The Light Gaia takes pity on you and lets you live out your last moments in your village and die peacefully in your sleep. After that, The Light Gaia reintegrates you into its rebirth cycle so that one day you and your girlfriend (who merged with her light side and left to live in the Light World's Crysta) may live again together someday, in the next incarnation.
I bought it new after reading about it in a Nintendo Power magazine. Think it cost £40 or £50 which was an insane amount of money to me.
Frick I'm old. Good game, though.
Terra Ligma.
The game is pretty famous in Europe btw
