Why the frick has this happened? when I was in college the local Tesco was open 24 hours. I used to go there at like 2am to get my shopping as it was quiet. But by my final year they had stopped doing 24 hours and closed at 9pm.

Honestly, I wouldn't go into work anywhere for less than $20/hr these days.
Even if I was a high school dropout, because either way I'm going to be either on the streets or living with mom and dad, because nothing less than $20/hr is going to allow me to afford a decent apartment even in a small city, let alone a major metro area, where apartments can go for upwards of $2k a month just for rent.

I wish I rented more games instead of buying them. In the PS360 gen I stopped renting games for whatever reason but it was a huge waste of money as most games I bought on a Friday and finished them on a Sunday and never played them ever again. I have about 150 PS5 games and about 50 Xbox 360 games just left in boxes in the attic.
