What is this. Some Green screen room in VR chat with Virtual Desktop's new Chroma key tool. (Anyone got the Mini Tekken 7 playing with it. I did an XR Street Fighter 6 it was cool.)
It's the new pass-through thing from oculus. It's doing more then a chroma key, you can see it casting shadows in that clip, and trying to handle the mirror in this one
>Take the risk of producing a VR game >The demographic is much smaller than regular vidya and it's actually the same demographic that already plays regular vidya
I don't see this ever been solved, VR is absolutely fricked forever
Well the bright side is you have way less competition. Make a good game and a way higher percentage of vr users are going yo be interested compared to non-vr platforms. And there are millions of people using vr, so as long as you don't go in expecting super big sales numbers you'd be fine. But the problem is that there are relatively few mid sized studios that this would be appealing to, AAA is chasing mega sales with 300 million dollar projects and indies usually don't have the resources of manpower to make anything extensive in 3D
I'm seriously considering selling 2 and getting , but I'm really waiting for the moment they announce Pro version with OLED.
They already confirmed the leaks that there will be Quest3 Lite without Pancake lenses.
>Product isn't good enough to retain users >I know! let's do something cheaper and shittier! >And when we make a higher end version make it a total piece of shit!
Depends when you got your quest 2. If it's an old unit it might be worth it to fork out 4-500$ every X years to get upgraded hardware.
Pancakes lenses really improves the visual fidelity and if you play a lot of standalone stuff then the improved resolution from the upgraded chip seems like a no brainer to me. Ideally you'd get the Quest Pro controllers as well since they're self tracking but that's another 300 bucks...
The edge-to-edge clarity and no longer adjusting the headset because the tiny-ass sweet spot is not in your direct center of vision is what's worth it.
The res increase is just a bonus.
It seems to be an on-going issue with Quest that they really don't launch with a line-up of exclusives or killer apps.
That seems to be an issue for VR in general.
I want to use one for 3d modeling but in pass-through mode so I can place the model on my desk or look at the object I'm going to integrate the part with and actually see how it fits.
Will be fricking fantastic.
Gravity Sketch allows you to do that right now.
And that is the best 3d modeling you'll get. (I never got to use the multiplayer on it though, or the cross play between your PC, quest, and an Ipad user)
^ This is the shitty Pro, so the Quest 3 is much much better.

Then Gravity sketch is the best for that. It does flat modeling great.
depends how good your PC connection is.
I heard somewhere the legit Quest version doesn't support mods so you would need to have a pirated version anyway.
The issue with streaming rythm games wireless is that SOME packets will arrive delayed even at low bitrates which will frick up your timings. With USB-C it's always silky smooth and the latency is always the same. I think on my headset I get about 22ms latency via USB-C that is extremely stable, and via wireless it's 35 and sometimes stutters to 45ms. I can't tell the lag difference when playing any other games, even shooters, but beat saber and ragnarock are simply too lag sensitive.
The reason that you should buy standalone a lot is that some of the purchases are CROSS BUY. So you get the PC version for free.
Also get Synth riders. I just got that for the Quest 3 and it is leagues easier to mod for standalone and actually supported. BS breaks their mods intentionally after every update to force people to buy dlc.
No the main problems are still social appearance and physical comfort.
These things are fricking bricks and for some reason they still use bungee straps instead of an over the head ring like they figured out 5 years ago. Why don't they make a good pcvr headset because standalone isn't ever going to get adopted while the social appearance is still uncool.
The only thing that fixes social appearance is for a new generation of women to be raised with the technology. Gaming used to be uncool and then millennial women grew up and now it's acceptable to be a gamer.
>Why don't they make a good pcvr headset because standalone isn't ever going to get adopted while the social appearance is still uncool.
moron take.
Standalone is awesome for parties and easy to share with other people and get them into it. I recently had a football party and two girls got onto my quest 2 and 3 and played Pokerstars in their own private casino for hours.
PC dedicated headset would not allow for this.
Also Standalone is perfect because it can be pc vr whenever I want. I was just lying on the couch earlier today and virtual desktop played some Nazi zombies with a controller. Shit is so cash.
You are moronic to think dedicated PCVr is the future. They tried the dedicated PC Vr and guess what it bombed.
They'll try it out, but no one is going to go out and buy one. The social image was so bad that girls didn't even want to try when I first got my rift; all the guys tried it. Your one day of use is counter to the 364 other days where you don't use it because it's heavy as frick and the image compression from link makes it not enjoyable.
Oculus is the only one making standalone on a bet that they could push their facebook customer base onto it forcibly, everyone else is still making pcvr because they know the market isn't there yet and won't be until generation alpha grows up.

a tiny step forward. need gamer gloves to become a bigger thing which will probably be at some point in '24.
gamer gloves would suck for locomotion options

VR will never be a thing morons. Most people don't want a big piece of plastic strapped to their head cutting off all awareness of their surroundings.

At this moment that's the closest we get to anime being real, but having the Quest 2 already, I dont think the upgrade to 3 is really worth it.

People play the pc version of beat saber just fine via usb-c
I asked to 'stream' so Ideally I'd like to be untethered but if I have to USB-C then I won't mind that much
