What is this. Some Green screen room in VR chat with Virtual Desktop's new Chroma key tool. (Anyone got the Mini Tekken 7 playing with it. I did an XR Street Fighter 6 it was cool.)

        Anonymous

It's the new pass-through thing from oculus. It's doing more then a chroma key, you can see it casting shadows in that clip, and trying to handle the mirror in this one

Well the bright side is you have way less competition. Make a good game and a way higher percentage of vr users are going yo be interested compared to non-vr platforms. And there are millions of people using vr, so as long as you don't go in expecting super big sales numbers you'd be fine. But the problem is that there are relatively few mid sized studios that this would be appealing to, AAA is chasing mega sales with 300 million dollar projects and indies usually don't have the resources of manpower to make anything extensive in 3D

Quests are the junk tier headsets which poorgays run to as they don't need a PC.

      Anonymous

Depends when you got your quest 2. If it's an old unit it might be worth it to fork out 4-500$ every X years to get upgraded hardware.
Pancakes lenses really improves the visual fidelity and if you play a lot of standalone stuff then the improved resolution from the upgraded chip seems like a no brainer to me. Ideally you'd get the Quest Pro controllers as well since they're self tracking but that's another 300 bucks...

      Anonymous

The edge-to-edge clarity and no longer adjusting the headset because the tiny-ass sweet spot is not in your direct center of vision is what's worth it.
The res increase is just a bonus.

I want to use one for 3d modeling but in pass-through mode so I can place the model on my desk or look at the object I'm going to integrate the part with and actually see how it fits.
      Will be fricking fantastic.

        Anonymous

Gravity Sketch allows you to do that right now.
And that is the best 3d modeling you'll get. (I never got to use the multiplayer on it though, or the cross play between your PC, quest, and an Ipad user)

^ This is the shitty Pro, so the Quest 3 is much much better.

      Anonymous

depends how good your PC connection is.
I heard somewhere the legit Quest version doesn't support mods so you would need to have a pirated version anyway.

        Anonymous

People play the pc version of beat saber just fine via usb-c

          Anonymous

I asked to 'stream' so Ideally I'd like to be untethered but if I have to USB-C then I won't mind that much

            Anonymous

The issue with streaming rythm games wireless is that SOME packets will arrive delayed even at low bitrates which will frick up your timings. With USB-C it's always silky smooth and the latency is always the same. I think on my headset I get about 22ms latency via USB-C that is extremely stable, and via wireless it's 35 and sometimes stutters to 45ms. I can't tell the lag difference when playing any other games, even shooters, but beat saber and ragnarock are simply too lag sensitive.

            Anonymous

            You stream it either way

      Anonymous

      Buy standalone.

The reason that you should buy standalone a lot is that some of the purchases are CROSS BUY. So you get the PC version for free.

Also get Synth riders. I just got that for the Quest 3 and it is leagues easier to mod for standalone and actually supported. BS breaks their mods intentionally after every update to force people to buy dlc.

No the main problems are still social appearance and physical comfort.

These things are fricking bricks and for some reason they still use bungee straps instead of an over the head ring like they figured out 5 years ago. Why don't they make a good pcvr headset because standalone isn't ever going to get adopted while the social appearance is still uncool.

The only thing that fixes social appearance is for a new generation of women to be raised with the technology. Gaming used to be uncool and then millennial women grew up and now it's acceptable to be a gamer.

      Anonymous

      >Why don't they make a good pcvr headset because standalone isn't ever going to get adopted while the social appearance is still uncool.
      moron take.
Standalone is awesome for parties and easy to share with other people and get them into it. I recently had a football party and two girls got onto my quest 2 and 3 and played Pokerstars in their own private casino for hours.
PC dedicated headset would not allow for this.
Also Standalone is perfect because it can be pc vr whenever I want. I was just lying on the couch earlier today and virtual desktop played some Nazi zombies with a controller. Shit is so cash.

You are moronic to think dedicated PCVr is the future. They tried the dedicated PC Vr and guess what it bombed.

        Anonymous

They'll try it out, but no one is going to go out and buy one. The social image was so bad that girls didn't even want to try when I first got my rift; all the guys tried it. Your one day of use is counter to the 364 other days where you don't use it because it's heavy as frick and the image compression from link makes it not enjoyable.

Oculus is the only one making standalone on a bet that they could push their facebook customer base onto it forcibly, everyone else is still making pcvr because they know the market isn't there yet and won't be until generation alpha grows up.

It's cool they made new hardware that is affordable but if you already have a Quest 2 there isn't much of a reason to upgrade unless you want the higher res. I mainly use it for PCVR anyway. VTMJ might be the last VR game I get for a while. Especially if it ends up being garbage.

I own a Quest 2. The XR is honestly the best reason to upgrade. It is so cool.

It’s a bigger improvement than you think thanks to the pancake lenses and proper dual screens.

Standalone headsets would be better if Meta or some ching chong company didn't have a stranglehold on the market.

Zuck, for all his issues, really fricking loves technology and will funnel ad-revenue into it.

apart from Pico but they're going through their own issues like shifting focus from controllers to hand tracking and having recent rumors of a shutdown

Normal people don't want it because they don't want to strap a thing onto their face
Video game people don't want it because it's Facebook
    Nonstarters all around

do you eventually get used to moving with sticks? It feels incredibly odd first time experiencing it on VR

I did but it took a few weeks to get truly used to it and the nausea to go away. I still can't take one of those spiral staircases in Skyrim VR without getting a bit sick. For me it was worth it for the immersion. Never did get used to RE3 VR mod, way too much camera movement that you didn't initiate.

        >still can't take one of those spiral staircases in Skyrim VR without getting a bit sick
I've found the trick to be pushing the stick forward and moving left/right physically to turn around

I have one very serious question. Does it improve significantly over the quest 2 when it comes to watching VR porn? This is 99% of what I use my quest 2 for, and if there is a decent improvement in terms of just watching VR videos then I will upgrade.

Is there any reason to upgrade if I only use my Quest 2 to play Blade and Sorcery?
I have no interest in any other VR titles. I just want to kill an endless swarm of barbarian women. Quest 2 has been pretty good at it so far.

      Edge-to-Edge Clarity
      Higher Res
If those are not important to you then no need to upgrade.

What about IPD? Higher FOV? Better Lenses? Wifi 6e support? Not trying to shill, genuinely curious if it will be a worthwhile update. I'm a fish so I expect being able to hit my actual IPD would improve clarity a lot.

They can't do that as people would just go and buy PCVR games on Steam.

They already sell a $80 USB-C cable for PCVR games
