Like I said earlier, I think Remake is not a good game but combat is really good. My only gripe with it is bosses often go into cutscene phase changers and this cancels all your limits/spells/special moves.
My memory of talking about the ending with friends in highschool was that the 'holy' lifestream effect was kind of a lame deus ex machina but it was set up earlier in the game, and the end scenes with Red 13 and Aeris were kind of WTF.
The final dungeon and the boss fights were generally considered to be great.
On the other hand everybody I've talked to in the real world thinks the compilation stuff and the action games based off of FF7 have been lame, and tarnished the legacy of FF7.
My general rule is to believe my guts rather than trust other people
I have disliked and liked games, but never regreted any purchase neither felt like ive wasted my time. Interest in something and play it can never be a bad thing, you are interested after all.

And they apparently forgot to include the patch that exists in the "Epic" version to fix these issues.
