It's the most overrated DQ game.

It's not overrated it's always been shit. The only good thing is the characters. Even the music is mid.

Not to mention filled with far more backtracking than any game that's more well-known for backtracking complaints.

Playing thru this on ps1 right now. The intro sequence is like 3 hours of messing around the castle and ruins before you even get to the first battle. Some of the scenarios feels a bit bland, but the episodic format is comfy if you look at is as if you’re watching an episode of a tv show.

It's the most tedious DQ by far, but there are moments of brilliance. If you're going to commit to it, ignore the 3DS version since the symbol encounters remove any difficulty the dungeons once held.

They should of went with Level-5s idea of Kiefer being Orgodemir. Would of been so good. They thought it was too depressing.

Japs add 40 hours of unessary grind in a 10 hour game and weebs call it a masterpiece.

Japan also calls it a masterpiece, unless you're saying Japanese people are now weebs in which case the word no longer has any actual meaning.

DQ1 is the only game in the series where you need to grind, and you can complete it in an afternoon. You're moronic if you think grinding is required in any other game after that.

Not necessarily true, especially in DQ gear is more expensive than the amount of gold you earn from battles so you usually have to grind to the sole purpose of earning money to outfit your party, but herbs and shit. Doubly because for a large chunk of the early game the only healing other than consumables is the hero’s entry level heal spell.

Literally there is no grind you will scorch 90% of the game

        >Scorch
Please I never got that skill. Looking it up it's actually called WhiteFire in the old translation and requires several thousands battles to learn. You have to get either Rainhawk to rank 7 or master Budoo which both requires mastering a shit ton of specific monster classes.
No way you will get the skill until just before the ending without grinding your ass off even if you know all this.

Scorch is from the DS remake which is a streamlined easier version of the game. For those playing on PS1 the grind is very much real.

The vocation system is so fricking shit. I hate how bloated your menus become after mastering vocations. The way skills don't require MP also makes magic even more trivial.

That was a problem I had with 6. Skills completely destroyed most magic by the end game.

There’s a scenario in this game where you just have to walk around a town and examine like 20 NPC statues that all generate the same generic text. When you’re done you have to sleep at the in then go out at night and talk to all the statues again but this time you get crappy flashback cutscenes for each one. Then you go back to the inn and in the morning you walk around and talk to a couple more npcs and use an item you get from one of them to cure their petrify status but it doesn’t work so you just leave lmao. Fricking crazy.

I love 7 but when you reach Buccanham, that shit gets worse. A lot of scenarios are scripted in a way where you have to talk to everyone. Also the Buccanham Tower was moronic cause it expects the player to have known where to get prism dew from the blue portal in the Shrine of Mysteries. Also one of the Mysterious Fragments in Buccanham is HORRIBLE to obtain. It's insane.

Ruined by visible encounters, mmo gathering and the online frickery. The story is shit since you effectively have no party members and the individual areas are practically devoid of it. Graphics are also obviously worse than 8. The Quests were pretty aids worthy as well.
It's still fun but it did a lot wrong.

Still haven't finished 9. I agree on the ingredient gathering, online stuff and the quest besides the town questlines. 9's battle theme is my favorite in the series though.
