Pretty much the same, just not as many buzzwords such as boomer, zoomer, troony etc. I don't remember my first post just like I don't remember what I had for breakfast two weeks ago. It was slightly better, but not by much.
You came when the Internet was flooded with normies. 2014 was GG
I still to this day have no idea what Gamer Gate was about or what the frick it did. Just bits and pieces of some prostitute sucking a wiener and that's about it. Glad I missed out on that homosexualry I guess. I was too busy playing video games to care.
It's about ethics in games journalism.
Sounds like homosexualry to me. Glad I didn't get invested or cared at all and played vidya instead. Didn't really browse Ganker or Ganker overall that much until 2015
It was about anons realizing that game journalism news media were conspiring together, and that said news wasn't organic.
The most chilling event was when every gaming website published an article at the same minute of the same hour denouncing gamers.
And then a few days later someone leaked a private Google discussion board, that showed the news companies were colluding to make articles with unanimously decided talking points.
The fact that all you know about it was Quinn sucking dick means that they won. That was used as a scapegoat to shut down dissent.
Call it homosexualry if you want, but for many anons it was their first time realizing that the news media hemisphere was controlled and heavily curated.
Frick off back to cripplemoe and jerk off with your fellow Black personhomosexual losers there. Nobody cares about your failed movement.
lol ok homosexual. I don't know what any of that shit is. I haven't cared about GG since 2014. You sound like a schizo.
Around 2011-2012 Ganker started having an overall shift in subculture. It became more apparent during GG because it made both factions come out and do their worse, so lashing out and calling each other every buzzword was in every related post
The same exact shit but more template threads.
>When did you join Ganker?
never
I occasionally visit, take a dump and then leave.
I joined back in 2016 when r/the_Donald closed down. I'm glad Ganker adapted its general atmosphere and culture to us, would have sucked to have to lurk for one year before posting lmao
You can always pull that dildo out of your ass and stop shitposting in every thread.
libtard/troony/israelite/Black person/globohomosexual alert
see and this is why we good folks from /misc/ keep this place clean by fighting a culture war on this sub
I don't like all the shitty tranime on this website, it's all degenerate filth and not based at all.
/r/the_donald didn't close down until 2020 you lying nugay
For anons who cannot understand nuance, he's subtly trolling. What a cheeky lad!
high quality bait. not very subtle but newbies will far for it
Outstanding bait anon
2007. much slower and self curated. if you made a bad thread it would remain on the board for days as a badge of shame.
the earliest postings on Ganker that i can remember making was a group of guys getting together to make a Ganker wow private server group of which im still an administrator, i know we wound up on fenix eventually, but i think there was another server before that. this would have been late 2009 or early 2010. that said i was active on Ganker before then and on /b/ for even longer before then but god damn if i can remember a single post i made
post group name
i won't, but i did just post an announcement. so if you're in it, you'll have seen it
lol hey, just saw it, I have not moved on yet. Fun times in those private wow servers. I also fricked around in the San Andreas RP threads going on at that time. Fun times.
Do people even play SAMP anymore or have they fricked off to fivem ?
I check back every now and then. Huge Russian and Brazil servers now, modded the frick out. Kinda neat to go mess in for a bit. But yeah other than that most have gone to moron fivem.
did you play alliance or horde
I started lurking around 2004 but didn't actually post until around 2010 because I was 9 when I first got here and thought getting banned meant I couldn't access the site anymore
2020 during the capitol storm
someone from the Qanon discord sent me here
I came here when Dark Souls 2 came out.
Good times.
2009-2012 can't remember the specific year because Ganker wasn't my first board. It was a better time until zoomers invented irony.
I called some reject posting cp a Black personhomosexual. I think it was around 2009.
Sometime around the end of 2006, going by my oldest saved images.
Just before Boxxy but I was an ESL teenager so I didn't post until 2009
>2014,2015 and 2016
the years that killed this website with endless normalhomosexualry
end of 2010/early 2011
2016 was horrible due to the incredible influx of hostile frogs
then closely followed by feels guy Black folk and their subcategories
but nature is healing, frogposters are always just some friendly but very dumb people
and feels guy Black folk are getting rarer and rarer each day
we're getting more and more cool OC back too
2016-2021 was a horrible time but now we're back
I fear the next year and really hope tourists won't overflood oue culture again
I heard yesterday someone saying that it is the first time in this site's life that it is losing users instead of getting more. If its true then nature is healing indeed.
I was 15 and looking for pictures of cat girls and stumbled into this place. The door slammed shut behind me.
2006. This image is probably the oldest one on my PC.
Me too, I was here after AIDS closed the pool but before stingrays
>those already swimming have been quarantined
how did they know???
2008-9 I think. I remember sitting in ASShomosexualS threads when leeg just came out and before /vg/ was born.
We didn't call everything troony, but we did have other boogeymen like feminists and tripgays. People kept porn to the porn boards too.
Why would I remember? Probably some dogshit on /b/.
>People kept porn to the porn boards too.
good one man
Dumb crossposter
>People kept porn to the porn boards too.
Lol, I remember /tg/ being /d/ lite
Ganker existed before reddit did
here is an extended classic for your nostalgias.
it did but they still called ff7 enjoyers reddit when it existed.
>People kept porn to the porn boards too.
You fricking moron.
I remember vividly how I was once dumping a Phoenix Wright doujin on Ganker in a PW thread, and some homosexual came and began posting gay porn to counter dump me. The Janny's came in, banned him, removed his posts, and I continued with my dump unimpeded.
Yes, I do remember porn dumpers, but those were shitposters trying to get threads deleted with their shenanigans, not blatant porn threads on page 1.
>but those were shitposters trying to get threads deleted with their shenanigans
No, they were people -like me- who used to post porn along with actual discussion, and often posted it by request.
For a long while there was a campaign to get Ganker listed as a yellow board.
lol same
I was always posting Junji Ito in one random ass thread to generate tons of interest, and then go into some other random thread and post four leaf lover to generate heaps of rage. I love being a shitposter here. People talking about some boring game like DMC or dark souls? Just start posting webms of rats doing cool shit and you basically turn OP into a cuck by having his thread be whatever you want. Shitposting is like NTR'ing some gay by hypnotizing his waifu(thread) and fricking it into submission.
>you basically turn OP into a cuck by having his thread be whatever you want
Why did I never think of this? I always felt it but could never put it so eloquently
I always visited Ganker to fap, 90% of the time there was hentai up
2002. Who else remembers the Scrungo Mungo meme? I fricking miss those times.
I still have idea what was the deal with that meanlo meme that was popular for a few months
Yesterday, you fricking moron
have a nice day, this is a vidya board, not muh nostalgia board.
Earliest thing I can remember is puddi puddi
2008, I used to lurk the demotivational threads on /b/ through the PS3 web browser
With the "this is sparta" meme
Somebody linked /b/ on the old, now dead, forum I used to visit
around 2009 and mostly for /tg/ and Ganker when it became a thing.
a couple of years later i realized that i'd rather spend time in Ganker and /misc/ though
I know I've been around before then, but the earliest thing I remember is the weed anime remixes
that was 2010 I think?
you talking about the smoke weed everyday memes? pretty sure that was 2012 bro
Around 2011-2012 iirc. I did my two years of lurking on /b/. There were so many funny reaction images...
>implying this matters
i joined before gaymergate happened
i miss the more comfy threads we used to have back then
2009 but i lurked some time before it here. Mostly to pass time because i played EVE Online back then and needed distraction during the gameplay.
I know true oldgays are bitter when you say it, but 2010 and 11 were peak Ganker for me.
Everyone's peek was their first few years they started going there
2010 was a weirdly good year but there was a major drop in quality through 2011.
I remember the mosaic threads of 2010 like Doom and DE being great, but they all turned into unfunny shit in the following years.
I knew about 4shit since 2016 when the election started
Then in 2017-2018 I was mostly just watching Ganker memes on youtube
In 2019 I started browsing Ganker, and I was slowly getting addicted to this moronic website
Then I think around 2020 I finally discovered Ganker and stayed here, since Ganker is like a SFW /b/ and I like shitposting more than playing games
>t.2003 chad
2016 when Trump won the internets of course.
^ mad troony
Remember morons that your own owner abandoned you
And hiroBlack person doesn't give a frick
You're basically celebrating a corpse, because this site is fricking dead you idiots
>When did you join Ganker?
the day it was added to Ganker
>What was your first post about?
i don't know, but the earliest discussions i remember were hl2's release and it being ass
and being ass back then meant something since Ganker wasn't as overwhelmingly negative, people just hated steam and thought hl2 wasn't that good
2006
Yes
I lurked for a while but probably about trolling smash tards.
Please take me back.
You can go back
To reddit you fricking homosexual
2018. I am an esl and i was 14 at time and looking for an english speaking website so i could learn more.
Oh and despite browisng here for 5 years now i never posted a thread outside of asking for help with hardwere on /wsr/.
I hope this moronic website will fricking die already
Why not just use a forum that speaks your native language instead of coming here and getting angry?
why not fricking off to reddit you moronic subhuman off-topic poster?
This is a vidya board you absolute Black person homosexual
and this piece of shit website deserves no celebration
Good morning sir
Not him but my language's chan got shutdown after an eceleb made a "documentary" on it.
Nice buzzwords bro, neurotic idiots like you never fail to drop unaware self-owns, you are the gift that keeps on giving.
>join Ganker
moron
When was the fappening?
I came to Ganker to look for the pictures and stayed since then.
old Ganker never liked ff7, they called you reddit for it.
I never agreed with them because im not part of a hivemind and have my own opinions.
remake came out and everyone pretended they loved OG.
they were a bunch of contrian fricks jerking off FF6 instead as the hipster option even though it was even more of a casual movie game for tards than 7 was. Same fricking idiots that turned Nocturne into a hardcore meme game
I first went to Ganker in 2011 when the costanza meme was everywhere.
On the plus side there was more talk about actual videogames in those days and not just coombait, troony, and marketing threads.
On the downside you got flamed by some autistic moron for liking literally anything back then, nowadays people seem to actually appreciate video games.
>nowadays people seem to actually appreciate video games
I was about to get a pic from my imply diggy folder, but honestly I think this is an aspect that has improved.
2010 really was a renaissance year for this site as 2008-9 were kinda bad on some boards. /b/ certainly wasn't fricking helped by chanology and its aftermath.
2019
I have been lurking since and will forevermore. But I post when I can. Things weren't as unrepentantly shit 2 years ago, at least. Better, more funnier than the rest of the Internet, but shit nonetheless.
2006, for the Brawl Dojo hype, much more vidya discussion back then
Brawl became my biggest disappointment in gaming ever, so yeah
my first post was probably in some kind of oras leak discussion or speculation on /vp/
>When did you join Ganker?
2007
>Was it better back then?
Yes. Ganker and Ganker in general were objectively better before 2012. Anita Sarkeesian created the moronic culture wars that got tens of thousands of Gankerirgins to turn into /misc/-tier homosexuals that were more obsessed with waging war against games and game developers that didn't share their political views than they were with discussing actual games. The off-topic that existed back in those days were way funner than the endless politics threads. The homosexualry was the worst period to be in Ganker by far and I'm glad every day the mods still destroy that cancer whenever it shows up.
I still like Ganker a decent amount. You just have to be a lot more selective about which threads to visit. Any game that has any chance of turning into political wars has no chance of having good threads here.
>What was your first post about?
GTA IV
2008.
It wasn't any better back then, but it's definately worse now.
I think my first post was about when my mom had me and my sister take a underwater weighing test.
>When did you join Ganker? Was it better back then? What was your first post about?
2016
No
Trump
2010, back when /b/ and Ganker lurking was 50/50 split for me
Anyone remember that one dude who ran a Mario adventure thread but used photos of himself dressed as mario?
Joined in 2004-2005.
Can't really say if it was better or worse, just different mentalities that reflected the time period.
We've always had boogeyman words to label shit opinions.
Nowadays it's transgenderism, back then any unpopular statement was "autism", "furry","brony", "sjw", etc.
Same shit, different words. I hardly keep up with it anymore because I know it works in cycles when the current gen's teenagers start using the internet and it'll be gone as quickly as it surfaced or when the next wave of newhomosexuals shows up.
I started lurking around 2013, but I feel the same that it's not better or worse, just different. It feels really cyclical, like yesterday's SJW is today's troony. There were threads for shitty bait, "Is coffee good for you", off-topic, indie games, threads that die after 10 posts or so, etc. I remember those then and I still see those now.
I think more so the world's changed, so the topics are different but they still fill the same "need" for people as before.
First post was asking if MGS1 could be played on a PC, someone answered then it died after 3 replies
Been here I would say 2006-2007. I recall having a couple laughs. Now you guys frustrate me and people are significantly less funny. I can't tell you when was the last time something posted on Ganker or this site was funny.
2013 for porn, it was better back then every single board, /v had shitposters, but not 24/7 raids, big shilling campaign (bg 3 recently), discord trannies shiting on every single release, endless politics, cooming threads, gacha spam, twitter/reddit threads etc
You could fix /v with id's and flags, but they won't do that because people will see where the shitposting/shilling come from, so the traffic will goes down, especially for marketing/twitter/off topic threads
>big shilling campaign (bg 3 recently)
You're a moron and part of why Ganker is worse now
And no, I don't think BG 3 is a good game. Never played that reddit trash.
>Either is a newbie or so mentally moronic that he doesn't know shilling is an actual thing on Ganker
>You could fix /v with id's and flags, but they won't do that because people will see where the shitposting/shilling come from
and when they see it is unironically mostly the US military like i've been saying this whole time people will start asking real questions.
DARPA depersoned moot. moot did nothing wrong. (except become a simp, don't do that.)
I used to come to Ganker very rarely in the past but for about a year now it has been my main board.
As much as people want to complain about 2016 and election tourists that isn't the main problem for this website.
Things started going to shit after the fappening ruined /b/ and it became just a more porn-centric version of /soc/. /b/ used to be the epicentre of Ganker and internet culture, a genuine marketplace of insanity. Ever since /b/ died the epicentre of Ganker has flipped between Ganker and /misc/ and having anything but the random board be the most heavily trafficked board is going to screw things up.
And the only thing /misc/ changed was it brought more shills and bots to the website once powerful people saw that the information on here actually made a different to the american election. The handful of people that came here from reddit or twitter either adapted to board culture or left again.
>thinking "powerful people" shill on Ganker
If you think this there is no truer sign than you actually being an election tourist
>Still doesn't know most of internet is actually shilling bots that overtake humans in traffic by largee margin
You are definition of real life NPC honestly
>When did you join Ganker? Was it better back then?
Around '08 or '09. It was 100% better back then. Culture war shit didn't really exist, people didn't post about trannies all the fricking time. Calling every game that gets a modicum of success goyslop wasn't a thing.
Most threads now are shills, politics shit, twitter posts and morons regurgitating their buzzwords of choice ad nauseam. There's still some decent discussion to be had here but you have to look a lot harder for it, and there's always someone trying to shit it up.
Here is a post from 2007
I'd give my left nut to go back to the days where the trolling was about what kind of games you played. It's about anything but games now.
>moron posts a moronic opinion
>is rightfully dogpiled about moronic opinion
I don't really see a problem with this
>I'd give my left nut to go back to the days where the trolling was about what kind of games you played. It's about anything but games now.
You're insane if you think Ganker is less ontopic now than in ye olde days. One of the old, classic sadfrogs from when it originally started being used was
>Tfw you will never know what it's like to post in a videogame related thread
He was right in hindsight as ''fun'' is actually moronic buzzword most often used by balding trannies to defend absolute dogshit games that nobody really likes.
>Well what can they actually say to me, i just say its really fun for 500x and i don't really have to explain why this dogshit is any good
Fun and good are two different camps. I'm never going to call Earth Defense Force good, but it's fun. I'm never going to have fun with MGSV, but it's good in terms of its engine and open playstyle. Practice using nuance.
What you define fun is actually a good game. Modern zoomer coomer consumer brain can't call a game good unless its not high on Metacritic, has few journo articles on it, is AAA, their 20 favorite e celebs played it, 5 essays has been made on explaining the damn shit.
Earth Defense Force is good, no need to victimize yourself, its actually fricking good and you are not going to get 5000 downdoots and dislikes for saying it.
What fun is actually used for as he and i said is to defend absolute garbage, the kind of stuff people will pile on you for even looking at it.
Since i have to explain so much it looks like the screen is still ahead of its time, maybe in 5 years
>reddit spacing
>buzzwords buzzwords
I don't think we'll agree, but that's fine and well. I don't pay any mind to reviews or popularity, so I would then argue that if I'm not having fun with a game like BG3 or RDR2, does that imply it's a "bad" game now? The inverse argument holds no water because it becomes entirely subjective at that point
>Things that reddit spacing is a thing
>Can't answer anything
You truly gave yourself up as newbie and with zoomer brain.
You have to judge the reality by yourself, can't really have social pressure decide everything for you.
Earth Defense Force is good and BG3 or RDR2 are not. If you are going to trust e celebs and gaming journos of all things over your own guts and brain, then later you won't have any brains left over and you will turn into NPC.
Been here longer than you, Black person.
You already failed on reddit spacing comment.
You failed even more by pushing down a game Ganker likes and propping up reddit games.
You haven't been here long at all.
>says it's NPC behavior to trust a faceless crowd over your own guts and instincts
>insist I'm now in the wrong for calling a game that Ganker, a faceless crowd, thinks is good, bad
Holy shit, you suck at debating things. Find a point and stick to it, you diseased gay.
>"you have to make up your own mind!"
>"NONONO, NOT LIKE THAT"
Decide for yourself, that is what i said. I couldn't be bothered by any of those games i just used as inserts.
Point is ''fun'' is used by balding troony gays to justify absolute dogshit, and you use ''fun'' to describe good games, but you are too scared to call games other people like bad because zoomer brain doesn't want to go against journous and e celebs.
I am deciding for myself. EDF is fundamentally kusoge but I enjoy it a lot. I can admit that RDR has insane levels of polish and detail, but that's not my type of thing overall, so I find it unfun. Your inability to think outside of a 1 or 0, black or white system is causing you some issue. Also, you're the ONLY one going on about trannies and zoomers right now, rent free much? Learn to construct a post without having to prop yourself up on actual newbie terminology.
Discussion was worse back in the day tbh
>going back to 2009
I wish.
I'm a massive newbie.
Started lurking around 2014.
Only started really posting around 2017.
I feel this site is getting worse with each passing day, but so is the rest of the internet and world in general, so this is still home.
2007.
2008.
I came for porn and anime, now Ganker is pretty much the only board I frequent.
And I have no idea what my first post was about.
2007, but I mostly just lurked back then. I was still a regular member of a comic book forum at that point. I remember my biggest fear was saying something ignorant and getting laughed at for being a noob. But the anonymity of this place started to sink in. I saw that anons could freely insult each other and casually call each other "gays" without getting banned by some moralgay moderator. Eventually I just stopped visiting that forum after getting tired of the people there. Never looked back
>When did you join Ganker?
2007
>Was it better back then?
In some ways. In others it was a lot worse. It's hard to understand just how off-topic Ganker used to be, it used to be almost all random /b/ style threads with maybe a videogame thread every now and then to spice things up.
But on the other hand, it was also chock full of vidya breasts and ass threads, without people screaming "COOMER! COOMER! COOMER! HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY STAND TO POST ATTRACTIVE WOMEN ON Ganker!!?!?!?!?!!!!!???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!??????"
Spiderman spam, 40k spam, and Doubles spam can all stay dead though.
>What was your first post about?
Not a fricking clue.
My HDD crashed, taking with it all my saved images. This is now the oldest Ganker image I have.
Oh noooo, please dont send me back to 2009 oh nooo, that would suck! Haha
haha ;_;
I started browsing Ganker in 2006, I was too scared to post for a few weeks because I was scared I'd get doxxed for saying something stupid.
Don't remember what my first post was about, I didn't know about "noko" yet so I made my post, got kicked out of the thread then refreshed for like 5 mins till the thread appeared on the front page again, went back in and my post had one reply that was just "newbie"
Left the thread feeling ashamed and I've been here ever since
>Tranime
You will never be a woman
I remember my first thread was an amd vs intel bait post that reached bump limit in 2014
I think the first time I posted was 2014. I wanted to ask about games like Fire Emblem and I posted a Mitsudomoe poster to get attention and people just talked about how they wanted to frick little girls. Previously I had posted on /b/ a whole bunch, back to 2010ish, and /trash/ to ERP with people, but by 2014 I was almost not underage so /b/ was starting to really wear on me
It was pretty much the same. God, I'm fricking 26. I've been using this fricking site for half of my life. And probably will until the site goes down
WE USED TO PLAY GankerINGO
>tranime
an eternal 2011 summergay
The biggest difference I've noticed, not just here but the whole site, is the increasing amount of people mentioning post numbers without directly replying to a post.
What's the deal? It's like these cowards are scared of getting and receiving (you)'s.
Imagine being so cowardly that you can't directly engage with some random schmuck on an anonymous image board.
Weird, I've not noticed that at all. Actually the opposite. Number of mass-replying shitposters seems to be on the rise.
It was a meme of greentexting everything with a wojak picture, usually people would do it when they didn’t know how to reply, if these people wrote a single word they would expose themselves so they have to keep adding meme arrows to other people’s posts.
I sometimes do that to avoid giving them a (You) because I consider it bait, trolling, farming for (You), etc.
Can we just agree that jannies and mods have not only destroyed but completely obliterated the essence of Ganker?
The sole reason why everything is a wojak now is because anything attempting to make OC or a funny video game related thread is immediately sniped due to being considered """off-topic""". The most harmless vidyafun threads are always the first to get nuked. I hate this shithole.
>click on an interesting thread
>404
Yeah, it's quite unfortunate.
Yeah. Jannies have always been shit but now they actively foster bad threads (coombait) and delete interesting ones.
That's the real problem. It's a video game board, not a "show your porn collection and tell everyone how horny you are" board.
Low effort clickbait spammed by children and literal morons.
One of the worst changes was splitting Ganker in to so many off-shoot dead boards. /vm/ /vmg/ /vr/ etc.
Like I remember some anon a while back was trying to make a thread about hidden gems from the original xbox. Actual vidya discussion with very little shitposting. But kept getting deleted by jannies because that's not for Ganker, that's for /vr/. Meanwhile all of the posts about gachas like Nikke, Blue Archive, Azure Lane - all the mobile games, never get fricking touched.
Jannies and mods have always been and always will be a pile of stinking shit.
Wojak edits are the worst thing to happen to this place, they're even shittier than those reddit rage faces from years ago and even they got sick of those.
Also splitting Ganker up into multiple boards was moronic.
>the essence of Ganker?
Not Ganker. The entire website. Current mods/jannies do not like Ganker and little by little have been killing board cultures and actively wanting different influences from other places. These subhumans all gather in their little discord now.
Hiroshima doesn't give a single frick as usual. The only unlikable japanese I swear to god.
Hiromoot doesn't even remember he owns this fricking place. Not like he would do anything anyways.
i don't understand the mindset of the mods who delete the Ganker threads that pop up once every few weeks
????
Because that has nothing do to with video games. Look I hate the joony troons that delete normal basic video game threads, especially if me and some other anons are drawgayging it up, but the animal threads are boring/off topic and I'm glad those get deleted most of the time.
I'm still butthurt over this thread. 404 for literally no reason.
So long as I live, I will never forget the phrase that killed Ganker forever.
>smash is a cultural phenomenon
I hope ABIB gets hit by a bus and dies.
Somewhat yeah. I still see lots of threads every now and then that get filled with OC and we all have fun, but if it gets too off topic then it's an insta ban with the mods scouring the board for the next week to kill any copies of it. Jannies are worse now, but newbies like you that turn this place into their personal toilet aren't any better.
it was 2007, it was fun and electrifying, can't recall my first post, I was a b-tard of the highest magnitude, Ganker was a video game flavoured /b/ and it was majestic
around 2005 is when i first peaked into this site, i got baited into smashing a soda can on my face and posting it one on of these boards i dont remember which one. i also recall lots of gore being posted for some reason
i think i also put a shoe on my head
~2005/2006 and the 100m get on /b/
My first post was about how we map these fictional worlds and things very well but how someone should develop a 1:1 game rendition of cities and towns so people could be able to learn the environment the same way all of us know every inch of RuneScape or world of Warcraft or oblivion or GTA, etc
2010, but I was mostly lurking until 2018. I still think it's nice and way better than other websites.
>2008
>Yes
>it was a reply to a WHEN I WAS thread
Maybe it’s because I’m stuck in this place, but I feel like the internet hasn’t changed at all since 2012. Normies keep flooding to the next social media app but everything remains the same.
Been here since 2006. Habbo hotel raids brought me to /b/ and been here ever since.
You see far less Costanza and Penn or Tellerposting (not sure which one is the fat guy) these days. A sign that either all the older people finally left or that oldgays are proving themselves to be just as sheeplike as newer users - just constantly chasing new meme, new format, etc;
>Penn or Tellerposting
That was cancer on the same level as wojakshit. I'm glad it's dead.
OPINION DISCARDED
Penn was the fat one, but he got skinny and looks like a turkey now.
Penn memes were meant to bait people, when they stopped working they stopped getting posted. It's like asking why umad? died out. Cope & seethe will go the same way
I´m here since 2007. Still browse daily because I love it.
2008 or 9
I was in middleschool at the time. Edgelord then, edgelord now but more laxed about.
You know coincidentally, I remember going to /b/ for the first time in 2009 when pic related and shitlord were making their rounds. And I specifically remember talking to some really fricking edgy supreme gentleman tier underage (I was too) and had the truly inspired idea to call him an "Edgelord".
I wonder to this day if I played a part in coining/popularizing the term.
>I wonder to this day if I played a part in coining/popularizing the term.
That's always an odd thing to think about. I was in the Ganker thread that coined "brony".
Please do not make me remember that I was an unironic brony for a few months
I remember playing some MLP song to my girlfriend at the time and singing along when that was all starting out, I wasn't even a brony I just liked the songs and she just had this look on her face like she didn't even know who I was anymore
Jesus Christ
I stopped watching during season 2. At a certain point in one episode I just realized it would end very badly.
I had pony eurobeat on my ipod until I snapped out of being a massive fricking gay lol
I think I accidently created the term jRPG in the very early 00's on a forum that is now dead.
You have caused YoshiP insurmountable grief for decades.
I mainly remember "edgy" being spammed on here around 2012/2013 when people were posting about DmC.
If you’re all so fricking old why does this board suck so much?
Most older people honestly suck, even more so they don't actually have energy to be active gamers, so they just keep shitting up internet with their culture shit either left, right or shitting on other generations, anything but playing video games.
They still want to act like they belong to video games because they probably wasted years on them and its a huge sunk cost on their entire life
Back when /jp/ was created so around 2007/8 but i was here before it wasn't until that time that i started coming here everyday.
Around 2019 when my interest in vidya got revived, though I've been on Ganker since 2014 before I got bored
First post was some unremarkable shit, was also the first time I got told to an hero myself
2017, The_Donald sent me here. Misc first then v.
2007. for the next few years you could browse /b/ all day long and have fun doing it. i dont dare to click that link now
It was around 2011-2012. I just remember Katawa Shoujo had come out recently at the time.
This is what always sticks out the most to me about this place. Comfy times were had. That and the tailend era of Flash games.
2005. Creativity, goofy hijinks and camaraderie is completely kill. There was a beautiful moment where Ganker and Reddit were actually separate user bases. I remember people mocking others with ">muh secret club" when suggesting outsiders coming in en masse was a problem. I think about that every time I look at this place now
The best Ganker threads have always been the FOTM games
Bunny Black
Mario Online (RIP)
Recently, Megaman Battle Network Collection and Void Stranger
Are there any other multiplayer browser games like Mario Online? I've been dying to play something with Ganker that isn't jigsaw puzzles.
I've never tried it but maybe that Mario Kart fangame? Or Bomberman?
I fricking hate nintendo so much.
I don't remember, I think I discovered Ganker maybe 3? years ago? but I don't remember how. I'm grateful because it gave me a lot of redpills and I'm not a bluepilled NPC. I also watched a lot of gore on /gif so I know I must never work near dangerous machines or lathes or in China.
2013
it was much better back then
it seems like Gankertards nowadays can't express their own opinion without making a dumbass falseflagging argument in their head
2013 Ganker:
>I hate this game!!
2023 Ganker
>HEY GUYS LOOK AT ME I LOVE THIS GAME AND I'M A DUMBASS AND A troony!!!! I AM SO STUPID AND I LIKE THIS GAME
You didn't listen.
I've been here for like 18.5 years and I don't remember anything in specific
2004
Yes
OS-Tans
Oh wait I realized the first part could be asking when I joined Ganker.
2005
THIS DAY WAS MADE FOR ME DRR DRR DRR
LAWD I CAN'T HOLD ALL THESE ARCHIVED THREADS
I GOT YOU HARD ON MY DRIVES
AND THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO
TAKE ME BACK!!
>When did you join Ganker?
around 07
>Was it better back then?
the whole world was better back then, Ganker was no exception
>What was your first post about?
either TES oblivion or dubs posting
the removal of dubs was the death of Ganker btw. all this politics bullshit and BBC cuck posting would have never been allowed fly when the community could moderate itself with hijacking shit threads with dubs
>When did you join Ganker?
2005
>Was it better back then?
Yes.
>What was your first post about?
Probably some tbh-spam or Silent Hill related discussion.
guise how do I join anonymous?
TWENTY MORE YEARS!
2006
Better isn't quite the word I'd use, but I preferred it.
2021.
Same thing. I don't remember
I knew about Ganker since I was 10 in 2006, but didn't start posting until 3 years later. I used to play call of duty zombies with a 40 year old guy from texas that talked nonstop about Obama, the Bilderbergs, and Alex Jones. He told me to start browsing Ganker to learn the truth and I stayed for the anime porn.
December of this year....
When i seen my first thread on the DS...
2004 wasn't THAT long ago...right?
Maybe 06 or 07? I found this site looking up info on Japanese like Killer7, this site keep coming up, especially Ganker. Didn't know ut was supposed to be controversial until like 2009. Missed the whole chanology thing because i never clicked out of Ganker.
Around 2006-2007.
It's been ten years since I started wasting my life and I wandered here. Nothing has changed.
i first visited around 2010 after i caught wind of the jessie slaughter fiasco. first post i ever saw was a e-girl guro thread on /b/, took me at least a solid year or so before i came back.
2009
it was better
everyone already says it, but 2016 and a year or two leading up to it sucked.
since then, this place feels like a shell of what it used to be, and every board is very obviously flooded with normalgays- some boards more than others.
i used this a sign to visit less and start using different boards that might have some value like fit and biz
i liked participating in Gankeringo threads
>i liked participating in Gankeringo threads
It’s literally the only thing I look for, I’ll jump on every other Saturday hoping for one and then instantly leave once I see the shit on this board, only here today cause some newbie in a shitposting discord I’m in said it was Gankers 20th.
i like checking in on occasion, but yeah, its not worth staying for very long
sometimes i wonder what bluesheets is up to
from gaming to gambling
unironically found myself in a decent spot financially from doing the opposite of what they say for long enough
>Ganker
2011
This place was great when we would watch E3 together. E3 fort threads were the shit.
Also I miss LOL threads and how they reposted buckley's newest comic. So it was just a countdown until someone made a loss edit.
I think I miss Ace of Spades most of all, though. Playing that shit with Ganker during finals was a fond memory.
>e3 fort threads
holy frick, i forgot about those, i remember making one one year
e3 was really an event to look forward to each year, and not even for the games- it was just fun to post about it with everyone
people are always going to be doomers here, but in this case, it genuinely was just better back in the day and gets worse each year.
people arent just saying that
I'm trans btw
So is like 85% of Ganker
>Still remember the stream when WE happened
What a fricking magical moment. Where saying a single word got you banned from the ubisoft forums
Started using Ganker regularly in 2011, started posting on Ganker in probably autumn of that year. The first major thing I remember happening was that event when Ganker beat reddit at some video game, and the A-Team theme was playing across the entire board.
Discussion used to be a lot "lighter" and less mean-spirited. People generally all enjoyed the same handful of games -- MGS3, DMC, Persona, etc. -- and most discussion was centered on that. You couldn't really make a thread about Crash Bandicoot or something and get a ton of attention. Also, memes like >mfw, ISHYGDDS, and rustled jimmies were everywhere. Of particular note was Tomoko and Watamote, which were HUGE at the time. (It was generally accepted that the anime show of that got made because of its popularity on Ganker, so I guess we all felt a certain sense of ownership about it.)
The biggest thing that's changed for me about Ganker is the level of legitimate aggression, which is through the roof these days. GamerGate started it off, with the whole controversy splitting the board down the middle, and the 2016 election poured gasoline on the fire, but the entire 2014-2016 period was getting really tense and there was definitely a notable change.
I personally have always kind of blamed Undertale for a lot of that change, too. The thought of a game made by an internet troll first becoming popular on Ganker, then becoming EXTREMELY popular on a global scale (especially in Japan) made people kind of go insane. Suddenly, that kind of smug, niche internet-heavy humor wasn't just for weirdos on Ganker anymore -- it was everywhere, which made it a little overwhelming and maybe too much to bear. (It doesn't help that the guy who made it was purposefully snide and petty, so if you didn't like it you were immediately ostracized.) The game came out in 2015, so it fits, too.
And here we are, now. The board is mostly made up of legitimate redditors, children, and miserable NEETs. Discussion follows. Happy 20th!
I started lurking /b/ in 2009 after seeing a demotivational poster about it. It was definitely way better back then but the internet in general just was. I do have some fond memories of joining some raids on random facebook pages with fake accounts. I did go to the other chan for a couple years in 2014, just from riding the wave when GG started, it was definitely the canary in the coalmine of things to come though as shit got bad around 2016-2018. Now I'm right back where I started. You really are here forever.
>When did you join Ganker?
2007, was browsing for ZONE porn. Ended up here.
I feel so old.
>2004
I used to lurk somethingawful, never gave lowtax my 5bux however.
yes, smart people having fun acting moronic was generally true. nowadays we're flooded with genuine morons who take everything seriously
probably some dumb meme shit trying to fit in.
Came here early-mid 2012 and lurked the first few years, although mostly on HSG. My first post was naming the Fisher-Price castle or pirate game someone was asking about.
Seemed like almost no console warring and the bit that was there was PCgays acting like elitists as a joke, but I might have just not noticed it.
2006. A simpler time. Every new meme was consistently new and fresh.
I fricking miss deep sea threads so much
I miss when we had an actual random board so Ganker could be video games and not /b/2.0
I miss LOL threads with all the deranged comics people used to post. The penis vore arc still haunts me. Modern off topic threads are just /misc/troon shitflinging
Oh man, I loved seeing the entire thread react in horror when crazy fetish comics were dumped. Like that one bad vore comic with the monster that looked exactly like Susie from Deltarune.
As someone who routinely dumped Franken Fran and The Bus, I miss those threads too
WHAT? I've been living on /vg/ for a while now and rarely coming to Ganker but deep sea threads got banned? That's a shame. 4AM stu seemed to die with the actor, which seemed fitting.
I came to 4chins in about 2010, stuck to /b/ until 2011/2012.
I miss angry mineralbro threads. Those were a lot of fun.
Some nuJanny tried destroying the PLAYAN threads yesterday.
I started going on here in 2018 mostly on here. I thought this board had so much soul when Smash was still going but after it ended, and after I started going on other boards more frequently, I realized this is the worst and least various board of the bunch. Now I only go on here when there's a presentation or if nothing's on other boards at the moment.
I helped make Ganker's homemade cripple dating simulator
Frick you.
I bet you cried at it.
I wanted to comfort her not frick her, i'm still mad.
it's been 11 years, get over it.
It was only inserted (heh) to placate all the screeching morons who only wanted to fugg the drillhead.
your going to go play it again aren't you?
A22 get out.
2005
Yes.
Baldur's Gate 2.
I've been here from the start. I'm 40 next year and have wasted my life.
Donate-Or-Die-2005 was my first day. Came for the /d/ickgirls, stayed for the memes, culture, happenings and culture-wars.
2008 with most of my early time here spent on lurking
I started browsing Ganker last week! Hello everyone!
?si=axFaUh1BXeBw58GR
I want to go back.
I first visited Ganker back in December '06, and was an exclusive /b/-tard untill around March '07, when I saw some shit I will never forget and got interested for the first time in other boards, one of them being Ganker. So, around March 2007. Not a regular here anymore, but this board aged like fine wine compared to the shit that's happening on /b/ post-2015
2007. I miss being called a newbie, I miss when threads would straight up get nuked in the middle of the afternoon by some rogue posting beast vids or pizza dumping. It felt more dangerous, it also felt safer because I didn't feel the eye of sauron over my head like I do everywhere on the net now.
So you don't actually use Reddit on a regular basis, do you Ganker?
I’ve never actually been to Reddit before.
I use it for giveaways
I honestly hate the UI for reddit and never bothered with it. Always felt like the Xbox 360 where everybody had the piece of shit because other people did and that's just how we played video games.
I must have registered like 10 reddit accounts over the years, because they're all me wanting a question answered about something after I google a community for whatever it is, making a new one, posting once, and then forgetting about it
I don't browse reddit at all unless google takes me there when I'm looking for something specific. I seriously can't stand the way conversations flow there. It's the definition of soulless. Same for twitter.
I do have discord, though. It's based.
>I do have discord,
have a nice day.
Aside from muh CIA, there is no good reason for hating Discord.
It's the same as IRC, which was also based, but you zoomies wouldn't get it.
>Aside from
being garbage. Discordgays are subhuman trannies who ERP all day. Stay there.
>It's the same as IRC
Not even close, and IRC is also shit but for different reasons and completely dead anyways.
>Discordgays are subhuman trannies who ERP all day. Stay there.
You're a moron. This is like saying Ganker is just trannies because of /lgbq/
You just don't get invited to any of the good servers KWAB
>You just don't get invited
Thank Allah. Go back to your cancerous shithole and fricking stay there, worthless fricking homosexual.
The servers I'm on have literally no trannies whatsoever, unlike Ganker, which does have trannies that you keep crying about.
Seethe.
>The servers I'm on
>no trannies
>seethe
You're underage and it's time to go back. Hopefully you have a nice day while you're at it.
>Discordgays are subhuman trannies who ERP all day
Not in my experience
Too bad the experience is true.
That moron saw some screencaps from some random shit servers and literally thought that you can't build based communities in Discord.
As if Discord didn't have servers shut down for being too based (And they just remade them with other names)
It'd be literally like if I went to /lgbq/, looked up a troony thread, then screencapped it and convinced random homosexuals that if you go to Ganker, you're a troony.
I thought I told you to have a nice day, underage moron? Why do you subhumans think anyone welcomes you here?
>build based communities in Discord.
Yeah, I love organized raids and ABIB cronies.
>there is no good reason for hating Discord.
discord is like making all forum download register only, and then on top of that it's making everything unsearchable
Just delete /misc/ so all the election tourists frick off.
why does everyone assume any of the old devs who post here must be A22? there was so many of us.
we never left, some of us just stayed and lurked
Silently baking the odd bread.
2003. My first post wasn't until 2005 because lurking was implicitly understood, a concept which died around 06/07.
Pretty much this, but lurking: 2006 till 2008: shitposting
>spent two years reading posts of people who didn't implicently understand lurking
Lol what a moron
took me at least 3 months to finally post something because i was scared i was going to frick something up and post my address or some shit
why does grinman like to grin so much bros
Uh, around 2015-2016 I think? Still mostly just reading others posts and posting once-twice per thread. Always tried to participate in redrawing forced template memes via paint, such as "And then I said" (the guy that shruged), gamerposes, TLOU2 shitpost and etc, even some wojaks at some point but im not really proud of that. Even made some drawthreads with requests, but most of those died off after an entirety of day. Did a couple of vocaroos for Ganker sings but those were never made so whatever.
Also I've been making this TLOU2 SS2 meme, but during some life stuff I've never been able to finish this pic. tbh nowdays I dont even have any will or time to end this. So I hope someone else will.
Happy 20th anons, hope yall doing much better than I do.
I don't remember but I was in my teens, now as an adult I can surely say that Ganker influenced my identity growing up, I just keep my power level hidden in normie scenarios, I don't know if it was a good influence or bad, probably both.
If I recall correctly I came in 2007, soon got jump scared by the wrapping a spoon with ducktape and super heating it and then super cooling it. Certainly better times than the last 10 years
i join in fourth moon when groog tell me games fun, never leave since
i found fourchan then i found steam 2 weeks later. my steam account with be 15 in less than 2 weeks.
i've been here for about 15 years.
2007(summer) but I wasted like the first 2 years on /b/
now I waste them here...
Around 2007, a guy at school talked to me about it for a while. Visited once, didnt do anything but quit because I thought it was a shit forum format. About a year later I wanted to talk about a bunch of niche videogames and japanese MADs because forums were shit at it, so the same guy at school advised me to come here.
But it wasn't until 2009 where I'd actually start interacting with people here, meanwhile, the anon at school was shilling the minecraft beta and talked about how hyped people were.
Overall, it was by far a much better experience than forums
2008 but that was because I thought it was a wallpaper board and I only bookmarked /w/ to grab some from there without posting.
Only started checking out other boards around 2011 and started posting around 2013, so pretty much a newbie.
>Was it better back then?
I guess more exciting from a subjective perspective because everything was rather new for me and it was less tame than now.
Objectively speaking, the quality was more or less the same as now, though today both extremes (shitposting - discussion) are amplified whereas back then both shitposting and discussions emerged more naturally.
The one thing that went down considerably though is the drive to create stuff. I stil have many spontaneous projects saved that emerged in random threads for the sake of having fun together.
Question for you guys, I said in a post above that I've been here since 2007, and it's true, but do you guys also sometimes go months without touching Ganker?
Sometimes you need a detox.
I do that ever since I joined, not as detox but because I genuinely keep myself busy with other shit
I stopped browsing Ganker for like 10 years but I ended up coming back when I lost my job in the middle of lockdowns and my life spiralled out of control
2005. I only posted once because I was underageb&, after that I lurked for ~10 years. I honestly regret not posting during that time, because under all the hate threads and forced memes there were some genuinely good discussions.
My first post was 599 US DOLLARS, nothing original.
>2005. I only posted once because I was underageb&, after that I lurked for ~10 years
Holy shit, imagine being this much a pussy.
have a nice day, newbie.
Lurking before posting used to be the norm.
The moment people stopped lurking is the moment the site went to shit.
You lurk for a fricking year, moron. Not a decade.
Thanks for being part of the reason why the site is utter garbage.
How do we save this place from negativity bias? Everyone here is such a fricking doomer
You can't. This place sucks and arguably gets worse year after year and I despise the current userbase/mods.
You wouldn't get it, zoomer anon. The golden era of the internet is gone, and you weren't there
Wtf I can't believe 2009 was 50 years ago
>another shitty glowBlack person datamining thread
When will you homosexuals learn?
2018.
i know i was browsing this site while i was in highschool in the 2010s so idk maybe 08 09
I joined in 2011. It was pretty bad but NOWHERE near as terrible as it is today. Gamer Gate and the 2016 elections utterly ruined this shithole. I genuinely hate like 80+% of you motherfrickers and all the threads I used to love are now mostly all shit because of stale /misc/ memes or dedicated shitposters. I get on average maybe one or two genuinely good thread a week and the only reason I stay here is because pic related and my white hot hatred is one of the rare thing that keeps me going in life and you guys have become my primary source of fuel. If all of you motherfrickers suddenly died of a heart attack I'm 100% sure it'd be a net positive for humanity.
>in the episode, Homer copes with his "YOURE HERE FOREVER SIGN" by using pictures of Maggie to make "DO IT FOR HER"
>every popular waifu would have a "DO IT FOR HER" edit, effectively doing the same for us as it did for Homer
>edits like that are basically gone nowadays, and a waifu is now something have in the plural
>our DO IT FOR HER has now become DONT FORGET, YOURE HERE FOREVER, once again
Maybe this is just me waxing homosexually about a dead meme, but I always felt something particular about it
They still make those anon
>I joined in 2011. It was pretty bad but NOWHERE near as terrible as it is today.
Yeah, there was a lot of off-topic and "CHECK MY DUBS" spam, but it was still better than the "everything has to be about politics" Ganker of today.
>Gamer Gate and the 2016 elections utterly ruined this shithole. I genuinely hate like 80+% of you motherfrickers and all the threads I used to love are now mostly all shit because of stale /misc/ memes or dedicated shitposters.
Good. I mean this with the utmost sincerity, people like you needed to be forcefed reality. Someone had to pinch your nose and shovel some vital perspective down your throat. You absolutely needed to hear that journalists collude behind the scenes, intelligence agencies are active in both game coverage and development and it's all a massive tool approaching a Frankfurtist endpoint at a glacial pace. You needed to hear it because in order for anything to ever improve (and for anyone to have any hope of getting rid of these cancerous people ruining video games) we need to not only shovel that information into the zeitgeist but also point out the intellectual lightweights like you. Gamergate and Trump winning and all of that bullshit needed to happen because you'd be the Benedict Arnold otherwise, someone who claims to "love video games" but would suck the air out of our enemies' ass because you're a lickspittle wienersucking homosexual. It needed to happen. Someone needed to shine a light on all of that so we could shine a light on you. Now you'll be here forever, whining about how "/misc/ ruined the site" and serving as an example of what a bad-jacketing moron looks like.
trump being a moronic troll half the time is pure Ganker, I can understand not liking republicans, but old Ganker would have cackled at trump's daily shenanigans
inb4 duhh i didnt read that lol you cant make me mad cuz i didnt read it lool (i did read it and am mad)
>ISIS supported #StopGamergate
the only good thing that ever came out of gaymer gate were the threads reacting to that law and order gamer episode
>When did you join Ganker?
2020
>What was your first post about?
Earthworm Jim
Joined Ganker somewhere in 2009 and drifted between Ganker and Ganker where I wouldn't use the other for months. Left in 2014 and sadly came back around 2020. I hate what this shithole has become.
>Left in 2014 and sadly came back around 2020
The gap year was something, eh? Coming back to 5 new video game boards.
I did the same thing. The other Gankers still suffer from moronation, so it's just like here but way slower.
>The gap year was something, eh?
They were great, though not without their own cancer after a while. It's inevitable.
Coming back was bitter, like joining the special eds class as a normal student. Had the other places not killed themselves with endless infighting I would have never come back here.
2007. It was somewhat better years ago, but not by a lot.
2012. Shit website
Things got to extra shit 2016 or so
newbie
It was shit before you even arrived
20 FRICKING YEARS
i got here in 2011 or 12, and spent the first year or two on Ganker. now i don't even go there at all, active mods or not that board is a fricking wasteland.
Ganker was the first board I actively participated in, around 2012-2014 and yeah it's bad. I check up on it nowadays and it's the same except they let shonen shitposting stay up
>He's still seething
first real Ganker memory is hen this happened on Ganker in 2011
I come here every day now, and yet I could not tell you the first time I came here.
About 2006, I've been a fricking menace and I regret nothing. The board has always had a form of cancer ruining it whether it was insufferable tripgay personalities, lolsorandum underage posters, beating memes into ground years after they went stale, I could go on. Anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is just a jaded newbie with no sense of perspective. Night time Ganker was and always will be the best mix of unique off-topic content and actual discussion.
"sports bar with video games" really was peak Ganker
>When did you join Ganker?
I'm not even going to lie, I joined in 2014
>Was it better back then?
in a way yes, soijak posters weren't a thing back then so the site was less shitty
>What was your first post about?
idk, probably replying to a thread actually talking about video games here on Ganker
2022
no, it's better now
i posted about how fortnite being based
You need to be 18 to post here, kid.
>joined
2008
>was better then
I think so? It's kinda hard to remember. At the very least I dont remember it being so constantly hostile and people were joking around more, though I could be remembering wrong.
>first post
I almost never posted initially and rarely do now. It was probably just a reaction image to a funny post.
Nah it was definitely as hostile back then if not more so, just in a different form of console wars and trolling; gb2gaia, lurk moar, etc etc. Some things are hazy for me too but that I distinctly remember. There was and still the lighthearted content as well just again, in different forms. This image will give you flashbacks i guarantee it.
found out about Ganker probably around 2011 or 12 because of boxxy, was never much of a poster, i'd randomly lurk /b/ every other month, back then which i know isn't that far it was simpler, you could go on b open a random thread which would sometimes be a cursed picture thread or whatever and genuinely have a lot of fun lurking and reading what anons were posting, like many said before me Ganker died during the phone era and along with the internet thanks to the 2016 elections, gamergate and online sjws were an early look into what would happen to the internet but i think 2016 as a whole sealed the deal and everything went downhill since then, Ganker with the constant /misc/ chud rethoric leaking into every single board and the internet morphing into the american-style reactionarism attitude.
I also want to point out how much i hate wojak which once was okay, when it was mostly a LULZ thing, nowadays, not only on Ganker (but mostly here) it's such a nuisance to see how popular it became in the normie world, along with chad memes, and whatnot.
>tfw 2015 newbie
>but not from america
had 0 knowledge of the site until i arrived here randomly looking for info for an obscure game then just stuck around since all the old forums i liked are now dead
only stayed in the Ganker board until the last two years or do
2008, it was a shithole but at least it was funny, dunno, probably asked questions about a series I never heard of back then.
I remember making my first thread that hit the post limit and feeling like I accomplished something. That was cringe af as the kids.
2016, lurked for a year; first post was probably for tf2 advice
2005 or 2006 I don't remember, I just posted on /b/ a lot, and didn't say anything on the other boards unless I had something worthwhile to contribute
Ten years ago. It wasn't any better. We were just younger.
I used to post in Friday threads more often back in 2013
2015. Yes it was better. Things were simpler.
Wait sorry, 2005. Not 2015. Christ how was that 18 years ago.
i was lurking in 2001 but i didn't make an account until 2005
same
2003 a few months after october. I remember the e-girl board. I created the "Hood" flash meme on /f/
2012, i was underage at the time. i used to browse religiously but now i only check the boards every week or two
If it makes any homies feel better, Ganker jannies got doxxed. Now for ABIB..
I hope if ABIB gets doxxed someone finally kills him and his worthless cronies.
>If it makes any homies feel better, Ganker jannies got doxxed.
where can I acquire this info
I don’t know, look in the archives of something “janny doxx”. One of them is literally transgender, and was posted on catbox. /trash/happening might have that info
Around 2011-12.
Friends linked me to the Ganker frontpage years ago as some prank to shock me for life and looked at /b/. Eventually ignored the gore threads and lurked the drawgay threads. Then I tried some other boards.
2006, visiting occasionally before that.
The site has become so much worse in that time, but that's not surprising. The old shitposts were funny and not a bunch of kids spamming wojaks and getting enraged over politics or a civil war that refuses to actually happen.
I don’t care.
>When did you join Ganker?
Around 2009 or 2010.
>Was it better back then?
For all intents and purposes, absofrickinglutely. Back then there were tripgays and morons but it was more tolerable as there werent many of them and very few of them would try to dominate the conversation. Now? Not only there are gays who will try to dominate the conversation in greater numbers, but they will also often go full schizo if they get any real pushback. The normalization of unironic twitter and even reddit threads is palpable where back then they would've been greatly mocked for making them. It also doesnt help that there are homosexuals basically advertising this site on twitter too as a "based" place to go to. Those neo-homosexuals are the worst forms of cancer. Would gladly trade them in with the 2016 election tourists any day because at least some of them were actually funny.
>What was your first post about?
I dont remember my first post but I do remember making my first thread which was just me posting a shitty God of War meme slaying the god of Best Buy or something.
2012. Never went on here before because of the boogieman stories. The internet was already in a decline, but 2 years from that is when the internet went to shit.
I'll admit, I joined 2021. Weird year to join but it's simply the year I decided to join. I'm here for the occasional good video game thread, or just funny threads. It was around 2019 or so that I realized this place wasn't what everyone told me it was, but that's partially due to the fact I had encountered /misc/tard larpers in a community I'm no longer a part of and they stained the image for a while prior.
Do you think the catalog was a good or bad addition?
It's both good and bad. It's good because it's much faster than flipping though pages on the index. It's bad because it changes the way users interact with this site, especially on places where generals are a thing.
I started coming to Ganker at the tail end of 2011. I mostly used Ganker back then and occasionally visited Ganker and now I pretty much don't watch anime anymore.
It was definitely better back then though, the board wasn't total cancer yet.
I don't remember. I lurked for months before I started posting.
2009, I'm not a regular here anymore but I come back sometimes to try to capture the feelings I had with the website in my youth. This board is about the only one that can do that for me. I think the novelty is gone, 29 now and next year I'll have been on this site exactly half my life.
2009 actually. I remember the first thread I entered was Samus porn, so it was about the same, really.
I was on Ganker before the chanology homosexualry days even. the site was way better when it wasn't full of tranime spamming pedo troons who like to tell everyone they've been here since before the 2016 election like it's a big deal
Stop posting the same thing moron.
My only post sorry if you feel attacked troony
2008. I have been here more than half of my life.
>2013 -
visited the website for the first time because of a youtube video or memebase post or something, was filtered by the website layout (I was only 11 years old lol)
>2015 -
the slick UI of mobile apps like clover made navigating the website easier, but I was still scared of posting and lurked for about a year
>started browsing 2012
>lurked for 3 years before posting
Please let me go home
I've been here since 2010. Don't remember my first post but it was probably on /b/ or /LULZ/. Also haven't been to /LULZ/ in over 5 years despite it practically being my homeboard for the longest time. The gays that tell you that Ganker wasn't that much better back then need to get a fricking reality check. Even the slower boards have dropped off massively in quality, not as much as the big ones mind you but still. And the reason for that isn't just newbies, le summer or tourists but everyone else too. I've frequented many general threads on different boards over the years and personally experienced how the people just started getting more bitter and jaded over the years, not to mention how many just ended up becoming full schizos. Blame the mods and newbies all you want, you homosexuals are just as responsible for the state of this site.
Lurked since 2004 on /b/, started posting in 2007
Took a peak in 2005 but then I went back to fapping on newgrounds. Came back and stayed in 2010.
peek
I arrived in 2004 from GameFAQs LUE, mostly for /h/. Ganker isn't really better or worse, just different, which isn't weird considering societuh. I used to shitpost on /b/ as Adolf Hitler, I had a pretty big folder of hitler memes. Then I trolled Ganker when Lucky Star came out, they really disliked it.
>shitpost on /b/ as Hitler
Are you the one that would spam 3 gets with "S'cool, but see to my three?" Whoever did that always made my sides hurt.
Nah, that one wasn't me, I mostly just complained about israelites. Sort of in a 'look who's back' what if hitler posted seriously kind of way. No trip there, just namegayging.
I knew as soon as the term "shitposting" became a good thing that this site was over.
we need something to ignite soul and hope anew, we made stuff before! we can make oc! what could be something that unites us even beyond from what mods could handle? maybe making the Gankeridyagaem, yes THE Gankeridyagaem! but they what could that game be..?
Started lurking in 2012, didn't start actively posting till 2013 on /f/. That had been my main board for over five years. I'd share all sorts of unique flash files with my pals over skype and laugh when they reacted the rare bait & switch i'd send 'em. Now in the modern age we can send each other webms, but the feeling just isn't the same anymore. Still hate summergays.
i really regret never going to /f/ while flash was still alive. that whole era of jank ass webgames and animations never seemed like it'd just go away. pixiv's oekaki service got fricking nuked too and thousands of drawing recordings from godlike artists just straight up vanished overnight
>2012
Anon, you are the eternal summergay
i came here like 15 years ago but didn't ever visit Ganker until cripplechan died. this board may be shit but /ic/ and Ganker are husks of what they used to be. Ganker and Ganker are pretty decent fwiw
Don't remember exacty but it was around when it was allowed to have threads posting narutopixxx images before rexx hit the ban hammer.
Been on Ganker since 2010.
Ganker since 2012, although I rarely come here anymore. I'm mostly a Ganker abd Ganker gay.
Back in 2012 I spent most of my time on /mlp/
IWTCIRD
Lurking in 2006, posting in 2008.
Good times
I've known about the site since 07 but I didn't actually start posting till 2020. I was worried about seeing someone post gore or something like that so I avoided it for a long time till one day I just decided "frick it" and I've been browsing this place regularly since then
Ironically enough when I first start browsing I did see people post gore in vidya threads but I haven't seen much since then
2011, I don't remember anything relevant happening that year, I only visited the site because I wanted to watch hentai.
2007. I was a senior in high school and was on WoW forums, and they kept mentioning /b/ memes. I came to /b/ and this was the first image that burned into my brain. Kept my mouth shut and lurked for way too long. Went to Ganker when /b/ was too chaotic and more dumb than funny. I tried to make a Bomberman thread once and it died instantly. Till recently, I was always just a lurker because whenever I made a post it would usually just kill a thread- I don't like getting into arguments. Got married in 2014, just got divorced this year. Took a some years away from this place and really thought I wouldn't be here forever, but here I am again.
It's a lot worse these days, but like many have said, it's the best place I know of for now.
>just got divorced this year
damn, any kids? what was the reason?
Remember, you'll be here forever. We will all share this home filled with us homosexuals.
No kids. Naive ideas of how we'd make our careers work side-by-side played out and our core values made it way too hard to keep it going.
>What was your first post about?
jannies tongue my anus
When you homosexuals and subhumans were spamming Newgrounds with anime catgirls dancing to shitty songs.
Most of you weren't even born when /b/ had the Gurren Lagann sticky.
>when /b/ had the Gurren Lagann sticky.
What happened? Joined Ganker in 2010, 24 now.
2005-06 got introduced to /b/ by a friend randomly
loved the moronic memes and discussions then
2008 migrated to Ganker for a year or two
2010ish is when I settled on Ganker and /vg/ later on (quake, cs and dota generals)
I can't really pinpoint it but if I had to guess around 2014-15 there was big shift in how the users interacted and it went from people here to have fun to like being complete losers with no hope
2007 I believe
I joined other boards in 2006
I hate this place and I'm leaving.
Happy for you
You're be back.
I wonder how many 30+ anons still come here.
It's not really important or meaningful since a lot of 30+ anons are newbies
Been here since I was 14.
2008 gay turning 30 in 2 months
i still browse but big boards are mostly never worth more than a skim through
always the same bait or reddit/discord Black person troony raid, better off on the smaller slower ones since theyre much comfier
>31
>still haven't beaten a single dmc game
cuhrayzeebros i failed you
32, been here since at least '09. Might be a bit earlier, but I cannot recall since my memory is utter garbage.
36 here
found this place in 2004 when I found Ganker while looking for anime pictures
30 years old. Browsed /b/ in 2008. I miss the old board culture but from what I can tell its always been large "generational" transformations. It just happens that this one sucks ass and we miss the firin ma lazors era of things being innocent, pointless and fun. Ganker in its rageguy era and shiggydiggydoo posts were funny.
What i truly miss is the positive view of the world we used to have. Sometimes however you get a rare return on april fools day like the team colors you could join spawned so much OC and art it made me smile a little. I wish everyone here happiness more so than anyone not from here. Last genuine wild west era website remaining
we never had a positive view post 2007. 2007 and onwards brought us the awful 360/ps3 era and the arrival of normalhomosexuals with iphones.
Absolutely based outlook. I wish you a great day, a better year, and good vidya gaems.
My favorite threads were
>Gabe rolls on stage
>eats multiple audience members between sentences
Cheers to that
2007. I was a 7th grader. Timidly would browse /b/ when I was home alone for awhile, ended up switching over the Ganker when Babby happened in 2010. Though I wasn't daily browsing /b/ until 2009, it was a lot more of an every once and a while thing until Highschool.
After that I never looked back. Ganker has been my home board since and I only started to branch into other boards in the late 2010s. Now I browse all the Ganker variants including /vst/, /toy/, and a tiny bit of Ganker.
It was definitely better back in 2007-2012, 2003-2012 is definitely the sites golden era.
One opinion you might not hear a lot though is that so far I like 2020s Ganker WAY fricking better than late 2010s Ganker. From like 2014-2017 this site was outright unusable the quality had gotten so bad.
>What was your first post about?
Wish I knew, I know I lurked for years and years though. I lurked until a year into my time on Ganker, so that's like 4 years total. Which still lands me posting when I was underage
ive been here since 2005.
>joined around early 2013
>came here because of the NCH animations
>thought this place was the source of internet, where all creativity comes from
Man was I wrong.
>thought this place was the source of internet, where all creativity comes from
Once upon a time I'd say this was honestly accurate.
We're still capable of it, as evidenced by the fact that Ganker is responsible for ruining all generation v generation discourse on the internet permanently. But we just don't have that dog in us to keep making every single new meme for the internet.
I remember I came around the time of the 1M GET. It was a pong image. Comments would be extremely cringe by today's standards (EPIC WIN) but goddamn I miss it.
uhhh how long ago was gamer gate?
I grew up in the 2000s.
I fricking hated it and honestly prefer my life as it is right now
T. did not have abusive parents
First visited in mid-2008 (from fricking Smashboards, don't even like Smash that much anymore) when I was linked here but started using Ganker in late 08-early 09, though back then I used Ganker more than Ganker (Ganker was alright until exactly the Korra Book 1 finale premiere). I'm 27, this place has been more than half my life. The fact that I have two good friends in real life, a degree and a good job is a miracle.
Been playing Fuga 2, F-Zero 99, RE4make & Project X Zone 2
I miss the way media and the internet was to an extent but I think I would agree with you there.
Honestly, it's more a matter of soul rather than of fun
early 2012
no, it was just a different flavor of shit
calling someone a dumb Black person for having ace combat 6 on his best games of the 2000's list
>When did you join Ganker?
in 2022, already familiar with it's past although it kinda changed in one year
Somewhere around 2009 looking for yukari porn.
my earliest memories of Ganker were back during the days leading up to and during the release of DmC: Devil May Cry, so around 11-12
I don't remember what I posted back then, but it wasn't on Ganker
I was exposed to Ganker culture years before that, what with all the -tans, anonymous, pool's closed, boxxy, etc.
How do you "join" an anonymous board? I looked at Ganker off and on since 2007ish but I never really made it a go-to until the past few years.
first visited Ganker in 2004 when /b/ was the place to be
>wienermongler
>happy Black
>cracky-chan
>raids on livejournals, forums and guestbooks on various websites, mostly furgay ones
>the bargiko/yoshinoya raids until the site owner banned non-jap IPs
>moving onto harbl hotel and closing the pool
>pranking tom green's shitty web show
>raiding hal turner (not because he was a racist, but because he gave us a reaction, frick revisionists)
didnt start going to Ganker until after the ROW ROW raids started dying down and the focus changed to chris-chan, was around 09/10
>pranking tom green's shitty web show
Almost all of the videos of those raids are gone now
indeed, just had a poke around
couldnt find any on internet archive or deep web either
Good old Anal Beard, wonder how he's doing now
2007 /b/ newbie, Ganker in 2009. Goober gate and the election permanently changed this site’s culture, but the era of rampant generals on Ganker‘s frontpage was equally crap.
Ganker kind of schism'ed between here and cripplechan probably moreso than any other board. we had a string of comfy altchans for a while and they all had pretty good comfy communities. gay censorship and moronic moderation choices are what's hurt 4Ganker the most imo because goobergater christchurch qschizo redditchan still managed to have less ragebait, troony seething and /misc/tard sliding than here
>Skull Kid got a 4
Bahahahahaha
>2010
>Come here because of babby
>Here the next day
>Read some ridiculous greentext story from an anon
>Unreliable narrator story, shut-in cousin (our narrator) is visited by friendly, casual cousin, depicts the casual cousin as an butthole despite obviously just trying to make normal smalltalk with the shut-in cousin
>But also adds the detail that the narrator was eating ketchup when his cousin came in
>Giggling like a moron as I watch over a hundred anon post their best reaction images with "
" "
ketchup" etc as their comments
It's not a big iconic greentext by any means. But I have made a point to recreate the thread a number of times over the years in order to keep the flame alive.
Greentext stories and reaction images are the things I miss the most. I wish big brick greentext stories and putting a silly anime character on your every post were still popular. Ganker is so much plain text these days.
2009 i believe
the earliest "happening/mod fricking" I remember was puddi puddi giga puddi
>browsing /b/ in 2006 as a 13yo
>friend makes a thread of with a pic of me wearing my school uniform in my bedroom (male)
>literally every reply is people asking to see my butthole
those were the days
well?
we're still waiting
I have a man ass now, anon. nobody wants to see a man ass.
During HS
>when
Too long ago
>being too depressed to get out of bed watching lain and shitposting instead of going to school
*sips* yeah those were the days alright
the look on your faces when moot comes back today for a Q&A is going to be priceless, lol
I'm fully expecting him to show up. Any minute now. For sure.
It's pretty insane that an actual real-life in-person anime convention hosted a Ganker panel. Could you imagine that happening today?
cons used to be a massive memelord meetup before everyone became so fricking sensitive
Yea, but back then it was more “weird counter-culture inspired by games and anime” with some pedo elements, instead of the “angry neo nazi honeypot” that it morphed into. There was always racism on the site. But when /new/ came around, and then /misc/, it felt like it just turned into unironic hatred that a lot of newbies got swept up in. Maybe that’s just my take on it.
i was mostly a /b/ frequenter since 2006 or 2007
started using Ganker and Ganker afterwards almost every day until the whole site got shitted up by normies, botted threads, schizos, etc
oh yeah, also used Ganker until it became incredibly gay which was around the same time the whole site got shitted up
2013
honestly only came for /mlp/
I fell out of caring about that which shall not be posted around the time it needed its own board. Legit the only time something's fanbase has pushed me out of something I initially liked, way too much cancer. I've looked at /mlp/ out of morbid curiosity here and there over the years and it's like 80% Worksafe /d/: Horse Edition. Shame mods banished Them's Fightin' Herds to that board for no reason other than Faust doing character designs.
crazy how my finger box still works
newbie
2009 during junior year of high school. mostly browsed Ganker and Ganker. miss those days boys
2007. If you're a post 2008 baby, you really are the cancer killing Ganker.
while true you can still give them slack. the internet was on the very border of fringe in '08 when facebook became more popular than myspace. it was truly over in late '10 - early '11 once reddit became more popular than digg and places like 9gag/ifunny started gaining traction
Pre 2008 internet: everyone is a nerd and everyone is happy
Post 2008: people start crowing about sexual achievements (mostly fake) and then you have the rise of incels and blacked spam and etc. there’s a big turning point in internet discourse where normalhomosexuals poisoned everything with psycho-sexual obsession
Is 26 too old to play vidya?
Too old to play, but not too old to argue about surface-level politics
>he doesn’t want to be a gaming grandpa
My grandpa has been playing his PS1 between customers for almost 30 years
2005. I don’t regret it.
I remember when you had to noko or you would lose the thread. And when that pedo Kimmo spammed the website so hard we had to get a captcha.
Is that guy still alive? I think that’s the defining moment when “old Ganker” died. And then when moot betrayed us for google
I remember when moot was trying to become a startup guy. He tried shilling this thing called canvas, which I remember being an imgur clone with some caption features built in.
2006 or 7ish
back when newgrounds, ytmnd, and SA were basically also Ganker
I got here in like 2013 I thin, lurking on Ganker so i can see the latest anime discussions. Didnt really post anything until years later.
Barely go on Ganker now, I dont care about anime anymore.
>Barely go on Ganker now, I dont care about anime anymore.
Same. I watched a few hundred different series when I was younger, but I only really read manga nowadays and drop in on Ganker once a week or so for one page threads.
I knew about this place when I was like 9 years old in 2004 from Runescape of all places. Started posting in 2013, but only got the golden days by proxy, with memes on forums and YTPs that seemed foreign but familiar. It's always been trolls trolling trolls, but now its worse with bots and formulaic baits. My first post was some bait that got 20 replies.
2013
I'm still here
2012 as a 16 year old underage lurker. I was ultra paranoid about getting caught back then.
I think I use proper grammar/spelling/punctuation and articulating opinions on Ganker as a result of trying not to look underage for like five years until I wasn't anymore. Only as an adult did I realize that the dumbest posts were being made by adults the entire time.
Yeah I came here in 2005 for monstergirl and petrification porn from vgbabes.com so I really can't blame this place for fricking me up at all
It was much better than the politics-obsessed cesspit it is today
2005
this website has ruined my life
2016
>2016 tourists have been here for 7 years
>I had been here for 7 years in 2016
Your existence hurts me.
it sucks doesn't it
I don't want to rub salt on the wound but guess when I was able to legally use Ganker
It struck me today that I've been here for over half of the site's existance.
Been here since the beginning
Ok
2015 anon here. I'm sorry for your loss anon
I started coming to Ganker around 2006 while I was in college. I mostly used it for /wg/ though. Never hung out on /b/ so I was never involved in any of the famous hijinks.
I thought bismuth threads were just threads where people shared cool rocks.
>being a homosexual
I would go into sink threads and just share pictures of cool sinks I found online thinking I was in good company
That wasn't the point?
Supposedly, people were using them to share illegal stuff in the embeds back before they fixed that.
/cumg/ got banned for that. That was what Bismuth threads were about?
Nobody says "tfw no gf" anymore even though that's when I remember Wojak appearing
I don't see people rant about casuals anymore either
it's still said on Ganker occasionally but the thread immediately turns into an /LULZ/ Black personfest instead of a feels thread
Yeah, Wojak is only used for "THIS IS YOU" shitposting these days.
Started browsing in 2012 for Monster Musume and MLP as an underageb& getting into high school
As much of a shitpile this site was and is, this site actually helped me become more socially adept by helping me learn to actually converse with people
Though I remember one of the first things I did was go on Ganker and spam tbh because I read about it on KYM and thought it was still a thing
Anyone know this snowman? I like this and need context.
Captcha: AWAWA
I like the part in where you meet Tyrone in the showers.
2007, and it was both the same and much better. There's too many normalgays here, and traffic has increased across the board, which is not a good thing.
>discover Ganker in 2010 after a few years of lurking /b/
>become a massive fricking weeb, get deep into learning Japanese, thank you nama-sensei
>fizzle out but still love this site because there’s nothing else like it in this era
Love you guys
Why did tripcode users go extinct? I'm not complaining, but they used to be everywhere.
I think they just wandered off to social media. Being an attention prostitute was a lot harder back when forums and chatrooms were the standard and Facebook/Twitter were still in their infancy. Nowadays it's probably easier to join some discord or be gay on facebook if you're a massive homosexual who would otherwise have ended up as a tripgay here.
yea, discord players siphoned off all the attention prostitute gays. you can still encounter them in online videogames, but they don't post here, they're all on their own discord grooming and being groomed. in a way I think discord actually helped Ganker milk the malcontents even if they raid us a lot
>Being an attention prostitute was a lot harder back when forums and chatrooms were the standard
Attention prostitutes were specifically the problem with classic forums and chatrooms.
2008. I remember a lot more console war threads. So basically, Ganker was never good.
I'm just going to say it:
Ganker was a lot better when the board that made the most memes that spread site-wide was Ganker. Once the mantle moved to Ganker shit went downhill, and once it moved over to /misc/ & /qa/ it plummeted. Of course when Ganker OC is actually good it was the best of them all but that has waxed and waned with the years.
Yeah, stuff like Kornheiser edits were pretty fun.
anyone who wasn't here for internet hate machine when it first happened shouldn't be here
I've had this on my harddrive since probably 2010/2011. It used to be a funny joke but it hasn't aged too well
>tfw it's just over a year until 1990 will be 35 years ago
>but it hasn't aged too well
I made someone laugh today with this one.
>the year is 2057
>you're looking back through memories on your old hard drives
>you find this image
>you post it online
>people who were born twenty years after that image was made don't get it
>the children of 2057 make an image that reads "2040 was 30 years ago"
I first heard about it in 2008 or so, not sure where. I didn't start browsing until 2011ish, when this dumb little site called memebase made me more aware of it.
Guys, I'm crying right now. Rabbit chan really is all I think about all day, every day. I really do cry myself to sleep at night thinking about how I'll never be with her. If only she knew I existed in this life, if only she knew my deep profound love for her. I know that will never happen though. That is the thought that makes me so sad when I look at her. I'll never be with her, but I'll continue to love her until the day I die.
Can't remember anymore
I starteed browsing in 2007 but I didn't start posting until 2009.
Anyone else remember when Ganker first started getting mad about Reddit and ironic "le meme face" edits were spammed on here a lot?
Do you remember her, Ganker?
always
A shame what happened to her manga
Same, should have ended years ago
>When did you join Ganker?
around 2009
>Was it better back then?
yes no moronic zoomies, no esl shitskins, no polshit, and no bot posters/AI garbage flooding this site now
the posters were a lot more intelligent too
>What was your first post about?
probably requesting sauce for a doujin
>When did you join Ganker?
Late 2011~early 2012, but I did lurk on Ganker and /b/ once in 2010. king of the newbies.
>Was it better back then?
I wouldn't say "better", more that the bad about Ganker was a different type of bad. SOVL is a dumb meme, but it really does describe the vibe this site had before the elections, 2016 /misc/. GG and the 07/04/2014 tumblr war was the beginning of the end.
>What was your first post about?
no idea, but I recall the shazbowl and katawa shoujo being big around the time. I didn't really post and start threads until /vr/ was made.
Now I'm just here for /vr/, /3/, and Ganker. I've been on here for half my life now, I don't I could leave.
I do miss how much less political the whole Internet was back then.
2006 summergay here, or at-least I think it was during the summer
