The demo is 50gb and I don't think it's just a problem with the textures, on quality mode there's a lot of parts that there's no shadows and the lighting is fricked most of the time. I would say the game only looks good on cutscenes.

It's an optimization thing. Turns out LOD, meshscaling and distance lighting is hard, so they just turn it off and hope the ambient lighting for the 3D models will do the trick.
Does anyone know what the frick happened that Rebirth looks worse than Remake? FF16 looks like a leap of two generations compared to Rebirth despite being an in-house engine.

You'd think they'd learned something from XVI, especially in terms of performance vs quality, but it turns out they haven't learned shit and don't care because moronic fanboys will gladly play at upscaled 720p with blur at 55 FPS and call it "performance". Which is fitting because the PS3 never managed 1080p 60fps either.

Rebirth has horrible textures in many segments but the overall picture is much better than XVI. Much better animations, lighting, character models, etc.

could not disagree more, i liked the plot and gameplay quite a bit actually, but the characters were lifeless cardboard cutouts. it's very hard, seemingly, for modern localizers to convincingly write medieval characters. everything was so stunted by the "polite" tone they felt everyone needed to carry for "realism." it's bullshit. they also killed off the cool villains way too early.

To be honest the gay shit was well done and didn't feel forced. Dion wasn't a gay archetype nor did he feel like being gay was his entire character. They have the same designs for maps. Large areas that feed into linear story areas, and the large areas aren't connected seamlessly. There is no way you can walk from Grasslands to Junon Area without some transition section. That being the mithril mines/cave. Will be interesting to see if that line is blurred around Corel/Gongaga/Cosmo regions.

It's by FAR the most popular FF game among women, particularly millennial women.
Solid but I think revolving around cooldown based moves was a bad choice. The basic combos and triangle weaving is straight dogshit. If we are talking about using two buttons to make a base for combat, I like Rebirth more. Both have squad spam, hold square but Triangle gives you another set of moves. Rebirth now added new moves after dodge with the blade and aerial launcher.
16 makes you feel pretty fricking powerful but its a game where Stagger being removed would have been better. When you have cooldowns and a DPS window, it doesn't work as well as Stagger in Remake/Rebirth

To oversimplify, it's basically animation "freeze" that some devs put in their games to emphasise attack impacts etc.
Some games have it, some don't. It's a stylistic choice. Adding it in doesn't necessarily make a game better.
Example: Capcom are known to use hitstop in all their fighters, Tekken doesn't in favour of selling attacks with strong VFX and SFX instead.
Forspoken's issue isn't that it lacks hitstop necessarily, it's that they dropped it and didn't bother to implement visual effects to pick up the slack, so basic attacks come across as very limp looking. See webm.
I reckon Max honed in on the game lacking hitstop specifically because the Forspoken team's previous game (FFXV) had it, so it's a baffling regression.

It's really strange that Square is unable to identify the cause of failure. Forspoken did not do poorly because of the Luminous engine. They should have kept it. The screencaps looks great. I can't get a single good screencap out of this demo, outside of cutscenes.

The demo is 50gb and I don't think it's just a problem with the textures, on quality mode there's a lot of parts that there's no shadows and the lighting is fricked most of the time. I would say the game only looks good on cutscenes.

It's an optimization thing. Turns out LOD, meshscaling and distance lighting is hard, so they just turn it off and hope the ambient lighting for the 3D models will do the trick.

They have the same designs for maps. Large areas that feed into linear story areas, and the large areas aren't connected seamlessly. There is no way you can walk from Grasslands to Junon Area without some transition section. That being the mithril mines/cave. Solid but I think revolving around cooldown based moves was a bad choice. The basic combos and triangle weaving is straight dogshit. If we are talking about using two buttons to make a base for combat, I like Rebirth more. Both have squad spam, hold square but Triangle gives you another set of moves. Rebirth now added new moves after dodge with the blade and aerial launcher.
16 makes you feel pretty fricking powerful but its a game where Stagger being removed would have been better. When you have cooldowns and a DPS window, it doesn't work as well as Stagger in Remake/Rebirth

What is hitstop? Kh2 does have hitstun but Sora's attacks only inflict it for finishers usually and enemies have many states where they ignore it.

To oversimplify, it's basically animation "freeze" that some devs put in their games to emphasise attack impacts etc.
Some games have it, some don't. It's a stylistic choice. Adding it in doesn't necessarily make a game better.
Example: Capcom are known to use hitstop in all their fighters, Tekken doesn't in favour of selling attacks with strong VFX and SFX instead.
Forspoken's issue isn't that it lacks hitstop necessarily, it's that they dropped it and didn't bother to implement visual effects to pick up the slack, so basic attacks come across as very limp looking. See webm.
I reckon Max honed in on the game lacking hitstop specifically because the Forspoken team's previous game (FFXV) had it, so it's a baffling regression.

It's really strange that Square is unable to identify the cause of failure. Forspoken did not do poorly because of the Luminous engine. They should have kept it. The screencaps looks great. I can't get a single good screencap out of this demo, outside of cutscenes.
Flopspoken did poorly because the amount of black women who want to play isekai games by Japanese developers is insanely limited. This isn't hard to figure out so I don't understand why execs who are paid millions of dollars don't understand it.
That's what I mean. It was a complete marketing disaster but a great tech demonstration for Luminous. Ue4 did fine in Remake because UE excels for interior industrial environments and holographic elements. It sucks for landscape, plainly, which was one area that Luminous seems to excel.

What I've heard is that the Nibelheim flashback is desaturated on purpose compared to the rest of the game.
any criticisms people have of the demo aren't valid because the full game won't have any of those problems
