Damn that site design used to look a lot more stylish
What the frick happened
All of the websites had better interfaces back then, they noticably became sterile around 2007-08 not sure what happened there
The first i*hone came out in 2007
You know what happened
Sites started being tailored to smartphones instead of desktop PCs
>Sites started being tailored to smartphones
and yet they are still shit on phones as well.
Good UI designers were still around, and they were often artists as well.
Nowadays all UI is handled by interns and outsourced third-worlders who get directed by corporate managers to remove features, hide everything behind hamburger menus, and strip everything of gradient and color, because they think if a normalgay sees more than two colors or options for something his brain will short-circuit and he won't use their shit anymore.
I don't know what happened to sovl-UI. Who the frick keeps spreading around that less colors and visuals are good?
Do you even know how long it's been since I've been able to log in from a homepage? I'm so tired of having to press some gay little "User" button that sends me to a new page, confirm I am not here to make a new account, and only after that do I get to start my 8-factor identification.
It's tedious and dull and I don't know who made the decision to build the internet this way but frick.
Because the current school of thought is that a UI should be minimalist and never make an effort to stand out, under the idea you don't need anything other than the absolute bare minimum, and out of fear of being distracting. This same school of thought also believes that providing a lot of options at once provides nothing but clutter that will cause a user to get lost and overwhelmed. Though this is also because phone touchscreens are small and shit interfacing devices that can't handle precise input.
Whereas the old school of thought was that a UI should stand out, make every element distinct, provide plenty of feedback upon use and guide the user with multiple visual cues. This paradigm also prioritized productivity, so plenty of options were provided at once for faster workflows and ease of use, even if it took said users longer to immediately comprehend what was in front of them. And these UI designers also believed that as long as they were reasonable, being "distracting" wasn't something much to worry about, as users were reported to have this miraculous ability to selectively focus on what they needed and ignore what they'd gotten used to.
As it turns out, those old school UI designers knew a hell of lot more than today's UI designers do, which is why it was much easier to use computers back then, compared to now where trying to do anything on modern websites and OSes is slow and frustrating. And let me tell you, trying to walk kids or elderly boomers through Windows 11 is a much more painful experience than it was with Windows XP.
Yeah, I think modern UI has its pros but every menu and button being the same color is distracting as hell to me. You can't easily just glance which window you want to use; file explorer, browser or Office.
Old websites were shit anon, you couldn't even infinite scroll, you literally had to click on an icon to go to the next page or go to an index to find what you wanted, literal caveman tier shit.
>you couldn't even infinite scroll
Oh, woe is me.
Why are Zoomers ruining gaming? What is their endgoal?
be our annoying little brothers our parents make us babysit
until we die
>endgoal
Finally getting you boomers to accept & understand that trans rights are human rights.
>Why are Zoomers ruining gaming?
how are we at fault when the industry has been dominated by millenials for the last 15 years? genz is only now entering the workforce
*millennials
so games who deserve it not like today where you put homosexualry in your cinematic experience and win GOTY?
>zoomers
haha, zoomers barely make video games moron, the oldest zoomer will be 28 this year, millennials(29-44) and gen X (45-60) are at fault
It’s not about who makes them it’s about who consumes them. Games are made for people to buy, and you morons buy whatever Steven Streamer tells you to buy. You whine when there isn’t enough content treadmill and vigorously defend all sorts of cancerous business models. When all the kids who grew up playing games on the Super Nintendo decided to stop giving our money to companies who didn’t respect our idea of how video games should be, you provided an open set of undiscerning wallets.
Games are bad because at every step of their decline you kept buying them.
>Gaylo
The same AAA slop as today then
Seethe harder contrarian
It was slop then, it's slop now.
I'm surprised new websites aren't popping up just to discredit halo
It got points for being a original IP, launch title, with online multiplayer and stable 60 FPS frame rate.
Perfect Dark on the other hand would have matched Ocarina of Time's score if not for journalists stopping short of a 10/10 due to complaints about FPS drops
>It’s a perfect game but because of fps it doesn’t deserve a 10
That’s fricking bullshit.
>it's perfect
>it has flaws
Just choose one please
Half of what you stated is wrong
CE didn't have online MP and its FPS was locked to 30 and it was criticized for it
CE has a 97% because it's just that good. Still an absolute kino campaign
And Halo CE is the only one that still played and relevant.
Except for Metroid (I didn't really like it on release), Soul Caliber and THPS3 (just no desire) I've replayed all of these in the past 5 years or so and wouldn't be as generous. I absolutely believed this when I was 12 though.
GTA3 aged the best. THPS was the most enjoyable but is just superceded by its sequels.
I think it is unfair to look back at games & still expect to give them a 9.5 or 10/10. If you play a 95+ reviewed game from 20 years ago, you should expect it has some issues that either are now criticized or are now fixed that people didn't really worry about back then
Halo CE is an incredible game that did a ton of innovative stuff
>you have a bunch of AI soldiers that fight along side you. Halo did it before Medal of Honor Allied Assault
>fun reactive enemy AI
>lets you both drive and fly vehicles with intuitive controls
>Chief seamlessly transfers between 1st person to 3rd person with getting in vehicles and turrets
>established the modern FPS console control scheme
>grenades having their own dedicated trigger
>regenerating shield. Love it or hate it, it was a trend setter
It's not without its flaws, but absolutely deserves to be there IMO
too bad Halo destroyed gaming by casualisation
Tony Hawk 2+3, Soul Calibur, Perfect Dark and Halo don‘t deserve those high ratings.
