I love Xbox and its objectively in a good spot right now regarding hardware and software, but their reputation is bad. People just hate Xbox without even having tried it. For example, the dashboard experience is VASTLY superior to PS5. Microsoft creates objectively better consoles in terms of sound and heat management.

Everything but the moronicly simplistic Switch and the limited space UI of the Steam Deck is going to throw ads at you now. Xbox is at least cohesive versus Playstation going the route of minimalism and gigantic "immersive" images overtaking actual usability.

Xbox is struggling with an identity, as many people here will point out there is almost nothing worth wile to play on the xbox, and the stuff you might want to play is on pc also. Dude bros got them to the top spot during the 360 days and they quickly abandon them 1 generation later. They value quick profits over long term retained customers. M$ will cut off their foot if they would think it would save them a couple million dollars.

It's been 10 years, the current state of Xbox is all on Phil and his deliberate sabotage of the console.
They lost the generation when people built up large libraries of digital purchases that carry forward to the next console generation.

The xbox 1 e3 presentation is what did it.
A variety of factors.
First is that Xbox had no real direction that ensured longevity. It wanted "dudebros", but that was an inevitably shifting crowd that eventually dried up in spite of them forcing out so many Halo and Gears of War games, in addition to partnerships with companies like EA and Activision. Beyond that, what did the Xbox really have as a brand? It attempted to be the "cool Japan" box for a minute, and another time it wanted to be what would become the Amazon Firestick or Apple TV, but it failed in both of those.
I'd almost say the Xbox only ever succeeded in the first place because its only competition were a literal baby's toy and a $600 cancer with no games.
By making their only exclusives have a development time of 5 years at the very least.
