you are the problem. I'm sure the fruit baskets in Suicide Squad look very high-res. But it doesn't fricking matter because the art direction sucks.
It's not even a matter of "up close", Infinite looked weird as frick even at release. Character models looked made out of clay or something. It was so noticeable by Burial at Sea they couldn't even hide it, and no amount of "muh cool giant statutes" coping will fix that. I mean you posted a pic from the literal scripted hallway ending of the game.
People spam that one but it's just some moronic level designer scaling that basket way out of proportion. It should be like 1/3 of the size and it would look fine, that's how it was supposed to be. You can tell from the wrong texel density that it was made for a different scale

Not just physx, remove the framerate limit in the config as well, my rx 480 went from barely running the game at 30fps to running it at 100+ if left uncapped, and you don't need to use amd chill or some other external software to keep it at a stable 60fps, you can cap it inside the game itself, somehow just deleting a single line in that txt improves performance massively.
huh? >can't play assylum because meme graphics too strong >can launch and play knight >didn't want to play without playing hte other ones first >finally upgrade my PC to play asylum >literally don't remember a single fricking thing aside from poison ivy's boss fight

It does its job conveying the powercreep. You're supposed to feel over nine thousand to take the end of the game.

You'll find enjoyment for sure, but it just wouldn't be the same as playing it back then. Batman Arkham Asylum was amazing for its time because it revolutionized combat (2009) that we haven't seen before (for the worst) in the industry with the opponent juggling that everyone started apeing, which to be frank feels distinctly Batman, made us feel like Batman, and works for a character like Batman who is supposed to be a ninjutsu fighting machine beating down enemies all around him.

What this anon mentioned. Asylum is a very tight Metroidvania that can be beaten in a day if you know what you're doing (I play through it every October), but gameplay wise its the worst. City amps up everything from the first, and Origins is a shoddy knock off of City that has a few redeeming features. Knight is the most gameplay rich of the series with the most actual content, but people complain about the story, of which I thoroughly enjoyed.
All of the Rocksteady ones are terrific and deserve to be 100%, and will actively reward you for doing so by witnessing the Riddler go fricking nuts as you close in on it. They also feature tons of replayability as you can notice references and easter eggs throughout the story on multiple playthroughs such as in City during the Joker brawl, if you detective vision he has no bones or in Knight all the gaslight images from Joker. They are terrific loveletters from developers who loved the series.
I started playing this week. The suicide squad shilling motivated me to try it again. When the game came out it was broke, optimization was poor and the game was unplayable. This has changed.
It's the little details, fren. It paired well with the gold belt and given this is supposed to be Arkham Batman, it felt like a reference to the ultimate suit you get in Knight once you've completed 240% of the game.

Without that extra bump for graphics, what do you think the rating just on gameplay would be? For something so graphically beautiful, it sure doesn't leave a lasting impression in anyone's psyche. Just when graphics gays come out of the woodwork does the game get mentioned at all. It's the final nail in the graphics gays' coffin. Every game today looks beautiful, now which ones are worth playing? Gameplay chads were always right. You lost.
this is what surface water looked like in 2007, but we all know you were only about 3 years old then.. crysis was years ahead of anything at the time with that shader.
I put 2015 as the last year of real content creation. It was the last year of old world style, mostly white people things existing. After that, everything went full blown aids with diversity up the ass in everything. Quality took a substantial nosedive after this year. I can't believe how far we've fallen in such a short time. At least things are starting to correct with mass layoffs in the games industry and movie studios putting out flop after flop hemorrhaging money like crazy. Hopefully things can get back to normal at some point. It must so my daughter can grow up in a normal world like we had in the 80s/90s/00s.
The real reason why games are getting graphically worse over time is because of rushed development as well as multiplayer focus requiring less fidelity to run on garbage systems.
>rushed
AAA is getting to the point where they can barely release a game per gen. The issue is incompetence, corporate meddling, bloated teams, and hyperfocus on graphics
The funniest joke about Rocksteady is how dull their games are to play, regardless of graphics. Yet all anybody harps on is the latter. If Suicide Squad was a godsend gameplay-wise, the graphics would be an afterthought. Disappointing, yes, but an afterthought all the same.
Instead all of the "Arkham" games play like shit, yet people go on and on about them like they're relevant, all because of graphics and voice actors. You're not wrong in your disappointment, you're wrong for your expectations. A trash company that has never developed a good game suddenly develops another trash game, and everybody loses their minds because of a few screenshots and a shade of green turned yellow. Ignorant of the lack of quality that long-since preceded it. Frick off.
The only Arkham game that plays like "shit" is Asylum. Unless you count the shitty Batmobile in Arkham Knight but that's offset by the best CQC in the series
as someone that never got into splinter cell until blacklist (it kinda sucked/ was meh), which ones do I play?
I did play other games like thief, mgs, ghost recon and so on but never splinter cell
I will just emulate everything
Zoomers and those allergic to the slightest jank will tell you to skip to SC3 but if you've played those others you can just start with the firs splinter cell.
All of the first four games are good, with SC3 the best. Don't listen to the morons trashing SC4 (or the contrarians playing one version against the other). They're short games anyway.
>1 is neat, still mostly holds up to this day >2 is basically a mission pack for 1, probably a bit harder, didn't like the missions as much though >3 is generally seen as the best of the classic sc games >4 double agent depends on the version that you play, I played the pc version and it is an unfinished abomination that's barely a stealth game, utter dogshit >if you didn't like blacklist, you're not going to like 5 conviction
of course every single one of them and double agent both versions ps2/xbox and 360 one
Graphics only get marginally better, require significantly better hardware, while at the same time the gameplay doesn't really get better, games just get better at wasting your time. Is it so hard to understand that this is the core issue?
It's still completely crazy to me how good this game looked. I feel like normies don't talk about it enough. Just look at this shit, all those tiny little raindrop effects, the reflections on the wet spots, the scratches on the suit, the detail in Batman's eyes. And all this was present everywhere on every model at the same time. You could walk up to a little lamp on the street and see the raindrops sliding off the glass
It's some sort of alpha animated texture. It's a loop of raindrops and they just spam the animated texture on top of everything. It looks fantastic and it doesn't cost a lot of performance. It's technology like this that was developed by talented people in the past that's the reason the shit looks so good. It's not a plug and play system. Some team members designed and programmed it themselves.
Just like Unity it pushed that gen's hardware beyond the limit which is why later PS4 gen games scaled back. Now they the frick they stayed scaled back on PS5 I do not know
theres no relief/POM in that picture, just some steep normal mapping with specular reflections. also those shading techniques just use a height map
it was never that popular to begin with, it has serious limitations/artifacting at steep angles. Back then it was a performance hit. Nowadays tris are so efficient to render with modern hardware, that artists generally just add more geometry (as part of the base mesh, then sometimes on the fly with automated tessellation though thank god that has been cut back). Shaders on the other hand remain costly so most materials get their depth from just a good ol normal map plus the higher poly model.
>Yes, they usually recreated the entire room and copied the actor or something to mimic mirrors.
While it was true for the PS1/PS2/PS3 era, it not necessarily true anymore.
There are techniques to have mirrors without having to duplicate the room, using specific shaders for instance. And it doesn't require meme raytracing cards.
But I guess game engine makers won't implement this anymore in their engine due to marketing reasons -- so people are forced to buy RTX etc...
Sad.
this meme needs to stop. they did that shit back in like the early 90s.
since then game engines (competent ones at least) have been able to render a second camera viewport and paste it in as part of a shader. same way they do security cameras or the like (non prerendered ones)
that second camera just swaps your first person hands with a full body model.
>game doesn't look better than a title from 2015, >game doesn't look better than a title from 2014 >game barely looks better than GTAV >runs like absolute trash, stutters, and constantly recompiles your shaders every time you change a single option
unironically Atomic Hearts ran really fricking good on ultra on my PC despite being CPU limited
Crazy to think that Arkham City took only two years to develop after the success of Asylum
TWO YEARS
Shartfield and most triple A garbage slop takes like 7 years and then most games end up releasing unfinished and buggy.
City isn't even that old but it feels like a lifetime ago with how much the gaming landscape changed for the worse
They even tease City in Asylum, and they do the same in City about Knight. It was so mind blowing going into City to see how far the scope actually widened that I never would have thought it could be beaten, and then Knight came out with all its DLC and its just fricking massive
Nothing will ever beat the feeling I got when I jumped in the batmobile to chase the tutorial mooks, hit a corner to hard and thought I would get stuck, only to see the fricking car blitz through the corner of the building without missing a fricking beat >mfw
I love how hard people are coping >Is this supposed to look good? >The new stuff youre comparing too is just low PC specs, its better than this!
meanwhile if you posted a picture of super mario world next to a fricking xbox game you can see actual 10 year graphical progress
its funny how texture wise you know this game is complete dogshit, but with excellent lighting and art direction it looks dreamy and beautiful. i hate triple A modern games so much
I miss how crisp and precise games used to be. It's like comparing one of those native Windows programs with instantaneous reliable UI to those bloated modern atrocities with blur, slow animations, delays everywhere, wasted space etc.
Did industry really started stagnate after 2007? Or maybe after 2012? Doesn't matter, modern games just don't fricking feel like expanding the boundary of possibilities, nor in gameplay or graphics, just shit all these years with few exceptions
gaming has become so profitable and popular (it's bigger than movies and tv at this point) that developers don't need to push the boundaries or innovate anymore, they can just release live service micro transaction slop like suicide squad or call of duty and call it a day.
Most of this comes from pure passion which is missing from a lot of game developers these days.
The difference in art direction is really what this pic highlights to me.
If Robin wasn't in the picture for Gotham Knights I'd guess it was set in Newark.
I guess its because the game was planned for last gen consoles, it certainly looks last gen.
Then again its pretty insane to not go for 60hz? Why run it native 4k 30?
Consoles will always sacrifice framerate for the latest gimmick (4k and raytracing). Its the reason PC players became so smug about their graphics cards.

pc players were smug in the past because a 300€ gpu investment would get you wayyy better graphics than what consoles offered, its not really the case in current gen

don't know but just pirate the original editions if you want to play the games. not like any of the money is going to the people who made the damn things
I still fondly remember the subtle DRM that Asylum had where your cape would randomly stop working, preventing you from progressing through the long glide section.
sickening to me that arkham knight is offered for free on ps5...locked at 1080p and 30fps.
I think that was the first moment I realized I wasted my fricking money.
Live for this moment anon. Don't repeat your past mistakes and stop focusing on the negatives. 10 years from now you might be thinking the same after all.
I thought Gotham City look ugly as frick personally. They totaly didn't nail it. It was also small as frick ans the batmobile was very slow + the boost was just camera angle + camera shake, you barely went faster.
The batmobile was fine if you thought of its sections like a FPS. Why drive when you can soar freely wherever you want? The thing that was unforgivable to me was locking the ending behind 250 riddler trophies. And I'm not just talking about the special ending. If you start up knightfall with only riddler left to defeat, they refuse to end the game until you find every last one and beat him. Fricking absurd game design.
I really didn't like the overall design for Gotham. I understand the need to gate off parts of the game but making it 3 islands with the "main" Gotham a huge metropolis across an inaccessible bridge just made the whole thing look tiny
Was this supposed to be good graphics?
Better than SS.
Yeah, it's a made on modified Unreal 3 and better looking than both Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad

You mean 2012. israelites took the mask off for good and made it plainly obvious to anyone paying attention that the United States is a slave colony.
RTX bros in shambles
The real reason why games are getting graphically worse over time is because of rushed development as well as multiplayer focus requiring less fidelity to run on garbage systems.
>rushed development
AAA slop takes 5 years minimum to make these days, nothing about it is rushed, it's just incompetence
>gm_construct gondola
saved
The games were too influential to be waved away as trash. It's hard to take your opinion seriously when you use so much hyperbole
it helps that its night and everything is wet so you can barely see the textures
The textures are pretty damn good in Knight anon.
2005
as someone that never got into splinter cell until blacklist (it kinda sucked/ was meh), which ones do I play?
I did play other games like thief, mgs, ghost recon and so on but never splinter cell
I will just emulate everything
Zoomers and those allergic to the slightest jank will tell you to skip to SC3 but if you've played those others you can just start with the firs splinter cell.
All of the first four games are good, with SC3 the best. Don't listen to the morons trashing SC4 (or the contrarians playing one version against the other). They're short games anyway.
thanks
I'll just start at the beginning
>1 is neat, still mostly holds up to this day
>2 is basically a mission pack for 1, probably a bit harder, didn't like the missions as much though
>3 is generally seen as the best of the classic sc games
>4 double agent depends on the version that you play, I played the pc version and it is an unfinished abomination that's barely a stealth game, utter dogshit
>if you didn't like blacklist, you're not going to like 5 conviction
why would the pc and console versions of DA differ other than one being a bad port? you make it sound like they are totally different games.
They are.
The old gen, as in PS2/ Xbox hueg version is just more Chaos Theroy.
THe PC/PS3/360 version is something else.
of course every single one of them and double agent both versions ps2/xbox and 360 one
I remember Doom 3 being the first title to really impress me graphically and look "next gen"
>Ganker in 2015: graphics don't matter, I don't mind games looking like Warband
>Ganker in 2024: WHERE MUH EPICAL GRAFFIGSSS?!?!?!
Pathetic.
It's not just graphics but overall presentation. Rockstar lost their touch as of the SS game.
Some team members designed and programmed it themselves.
is it calculated on the fly, or is it predetermined how it will animate?
Just like Unity it pushed that gen's hardware beyond the limit which is why later PS4 gen games scaled back. Now they the frick they stayed scaled back on PS5 I do not know
ITZ DA BAT
>released in 2004
Why did devs stop using parallax textures?
tessellation became the next thing that Nvidia pushed so AMD would shit itself on everything
theres no relief/POM in that picture, just some steep normal mapping with specular reflections. also those shading techniques just use a height map
it was never that popular to begin with, it has serious limitations/artifacting at steep angles. Back then it was a performance hit. Nowadays tris are so efficient to render with modern hardware, that artists generally just add more geometry (as part of the base mesh, then sometimes on the fly with automated tessellation though thank god that has been cut back). Shaders on the other hand remain costly so most materials get their depth from just a good ol normal map plus the higher poly model.
holy frick. is that mirror? games used to have mirrors?
Yes, they usually recreated the entire room and copied the actor or something to mimic mirrors.
Sad.
the question was 'games used to have working mirrors' used to meaning in the past
this meme needs to stop. they did that shit back in like the early 90s.
since then game engines (competent ones at least) have been able to render a second camera viewport and paste it in as part of a shader. same way they do security cameras or the like (non prerendered ones)
that second camera just swaps your first person hands with a full body model.
yes
its dark athena released in 2009
threads about 7th gen graphics are bad
im trans btw
>game doesn't look better than a title from 2015, >game doesn't look better than a title from 2014
>game barely looks better than GTAV
>runs like absolute trash, stutters, and constantly recompiles your shaders every time you change a single option
unironically Atomic Hearts ran really fricking good on ultra on my PC despite being CPU limited
Brainiac's Metropolis has its own distinctive charm.
Harley looks cute in this screenshot only and nowhere else
Crazy to think that Arkham City took only two years to develop after the success of Asylum
TWO YEARS
Shartfield and most triple A garbage slop takes like 7 years and then most games end up releasing unfinished and buggy.
City isn't even that old but it feels like a lifetime ago with how much the gaming landscape changed for the worse
They even tease City in Asylum, and they do the same in City about Knight. It was so mind blowing going into City to see how far the scope actually widened that I never would have thought it could be beaten, and then Knight came out with all its DLC and its just fricking massive
Nothing will ever beat the feeling I got when I jumped in the batmobile to chase the tutorial mooks, hit a corner to hard and thought I would get stuck, only to see the fricking car blitz through the corner of the building without missing a fricking beat
>mfw
>2008
I miss Mirror's edge bros, shame that og devs had to make shitty fps for nexon instead of 3rd game
i mean the game is still out there
I love how hard people are coping
>Is this supposed to look good?
>The new stuff youre comparing too is just low PC specs, its better than this!
meanwhile if you posted a picture of super mario world next to a fricking xbox game you can see actual 10 year graphical progress
MUH GRAPHIXXX
how about you make a good fricking game instead
Devs these days can't do good graphics or good games
its funny how texture wise you know this game is complete dogshit, but with excellent lighting and art direction it looks dreamy and beautiful. i hate triple A modern games so much
>2004
back when crytek was decent and far cry 1 was just a tech demo for their engine
I miss how crisp and precise games used to be. It's like comparing one of those native Windows programs with instantaneous reliable UI to those bloated modern atrocities with blur, slow animations, delays everywhere, wasted space etc.
>renamer
My homie. Best software ever.
Most of this comes from pure passion which is missing from a lot of game developers these days.
bro wtf how
Wtf is that real?
Alfred! Turn off my Cringe inhibitors!!
>updates your game 8 years after release
>to add Battinson skin
>but not Battinsonmobile
reeeeeeeeeeeee
For me, it’s the fact that the Adam West suit and Scarecrow tank battle are still trapped on playstation
My only complaint is he looks slightly too bulky ingame.
Classic Blue is still the most kino
Yeah, Pattinson is not the bulkiest type.
It could be the best but I can't just look past the underwear on top, reinforced by the color change.
Do we ever get Bale suit?
Yes
It is in the game, Begins and Dark Knight suits, as well as the tumbler.
What about James Suit?
Sorry buddy, /vt/ and /incel/ are two blocks below.
frick you, motherfricker!!
have you guys also always read Jokers dialogue in Mikes voice?
with raytracing on during daylight there are many places in suicide squad where game would look far far better than arkham knight
>rain
Lmao
Now show indoor locations
Weird request but ok
oh you meant for halo
Arkham knight you fricking subhuman
>take a game from 2014 and compare it from a game from 2024
>it practically looks the same
>take a game from 1998 and compare it to a game from 2004
>the improvements are miles apart
newer generations will never know this feel
raytracing is the only graphical improvement from ps4 and ps5, and yet PS5 cant run it properly except for reflections
And the women are hotter, coincidencia, I think not
These days we have a bit better games
>A literal movie game
>Good
If AW2 is a movie game than REmake 2 is a visual novel
Correct.
>Boy, I can't wait to see what games are gonna be like in the next 10 years
>yeah, imagine the next Arkham game on UE4, and then on UE5, it will be totally insane
It'd be one thing if graphics stagnated, but they actually seem to be going backwards in many ways.
The difference in art direction is really what this pic highlights to me.
If Robin wasn't in the picture for Gotham Knights I'd guess it was set in Newark.
One is targeting 720p@30fps while the other is 2160p@30fps.
921,000 pixels vs 8,294,400 pixels. Trying to match the 4k TV wave killed this generation.
They dont run games at 4k on consoles
>Digital Foundry don't lie pimp
?t=694
I guess its because the game was planned for last gen consoles, it certainly looks last gen.
Then again its pretty insane to not go for 60hz? Why run it native 4k 30?
Consoles will always sacrifice framerate for the latest gimmick (4k and raytracing). Its the reason PC players became so smug about their graphics cards.
pc players were smug in the past because a 300€ gpu investment would get you wayyy better graphics than what consoles offered, its not really the case in current gen
At least pc gamers finally got an upscaling option in the form of dlss
>300€ gpu investment would get you wayyy better graphics than what consoles offered
They made sure you knew it too ha
This seems like a good place to ask, does the Arkham Collection use the notoriously borked Return to Arkham "enhanced" ports?
don't know but just pirate the original editions if you want to play the games. not like any of the money is going to the people who made the damn things
They're still on Steam cause they never got the remastered shit. I got all 3 games including all the Arkham Knight DLC for 9 bux on a sale.
I still fondly remember the subtle DRM that Asylum had where your cape would randomly stop working, preventing you from progressing through the long glide section.
dare i say, soul
I don't think PC ever got the shitty remasters.
Goddamn the remaster looks shitty.
>I can't wait to see how sexy and life-like Catwoman will be in 10 years
>and Harley, god just imagine, I can barely contain myself
sickening to me that arkham knight is offered for free on ps5...locked at 1080p and 30fps.
I think that was the first moment I realized I wasted my fricking money.
>dude the future is so bright
guy should see a dentist
>that teeth
is he british?
1989
The Demo was released in 2009
The View Distance that amazed me. And the fact that my old Core 2 Duo could run this at 90+FPS
Also pretty night skylines
>that nostalgia
>that feeling of knowing i didn't appreciate how good it was in the past
sweet pain. but let's not lose all hope for the future, eh?
This was by far the Arkham game with the most animation, tracking and AI glitches
Anyone else find it surreal how this batman gets capped in the face unceremoniously?
Looks bbad
their modified and optimized version of UE3 was pure unadultered soul
Knight is really pretty
