I haven't played Dota in years but I do remember one match where anything that went wrong in the first 15 minutes went wrong but somehow we were able to bounceback by just defending the ancient (I know right) until our Slark got utterly ridiculous and blew up the enemy team and we won.
It was 2 hour long match but God the utter seething coming from the enemy team afterwards was the most cathartic moment in my life.
and this is why dota is the best game ever made.
No game can compare to the sheer pain and humiliation an ultra-lategame comback causes. There is nothing like it out there and there's nothing like the feeling you get for pulling it off.

It baffles me that some people play to lose, especially in a genre of games in which you can win off one good play by one guy in an endgame fight.

PA was murdered in a nerf shortly after people figured out how broken support PA was and she really wasn't the same ever since.

Okay, so the concept was clicking stifling dagger.
The spell was really, really, really good. It had set damage, a good slow, low cooldown and a ridiculous range and then it got the effect of applying on hit modifies, so people would just buy an orb of venom and a bunch of clarities and spam dagger at people.
And that was enough to win lanes with most heroes and snowball from there. And it was extremely stupid.

90 pure damage for 15 mana every 6 seconds with an attached 4 second 50% slow + the slow and chip from OoV.
You can avoid giving away stick charges by hiding in trees. It was not completely brainless, but it was quite good.

static storm is way weaker than the worst crit ability in the game until pa hits level 18 as well
You just press it every time you have it and if someone is low enough the slow is more than enough to force a kill. It was really good.
It's not just about damage, as
pointed out it is also about the frustration and the constant pressure of "are they gonna go for a kill", the slow has a 2 second downtime and if they get boots faster than you, you're in an extremely bad position.
