2022s Video Game Market Declines Expected to Continue

https://www.npd.com/news/blog/2022/2022s-video-game-market-declines-expected-to-continue/
>U.S. consumer spending on video game hardware, content and accessories is now projected to reach $55.5 billion in 2022, a decline of 8.7% when compared to 2021.
>Some of the drivers of the decline include the return of experiential spending, higher prices in everyday spending categories such as food and fuel, the uncertain supply of video game console hardware and certain accessories such as gamepads, and a lighter release slate of games, among others.
>On the content front, the expectation is that year-on-year declines will be experienced across PC, console and mobile platforms in both premium game sales and recurrent post-launch spending.

The Japanese industry is trending upwards though.
And western corporate garbage crashing would only strengthen the industry as a whole.

If file-sharing was the issue then other sectors of the industry shouldn't trend upwards. The western videogames industry just has real quality issues. And maybe even normalgays are starting to wisen up to it.

I think the industry needs a crash for a time. It's become over-commercialized and run by CEO/CFO types that just want games to be a revenue source in their portfolios, rather than being run by a bunch of weirdos who have imagination and the desire to share their ideas with others.

I don’t know shit about finance but it seems that with the economy in the shitter people might think twice about spending money on a game instead of important things like food. I don’t think it’ll be a crash though, at least not in the sense of a ton of companies going under over night. Interesting to see if the $70 price tag they’re trying to inch towards sticks around.

I don't think a crash would hypothetically save gaming.

The biggest problem the industry still has to tackle is the large soulless teams that are needed to meet the "demand" of your run of the mill normie gamer that wants graphical fidelity and online gameplay

      Anonymous

      >Crash comes, market cap lower, purchasing power lower
      >Shit, we need to lay off 80% of this large, soulless team in order to keep the lights on
      >Shit, that means we can't keep up with the demands for graphical fidelity and online gameplay that your run of the mill normie (normalgay, say it right anon) gamer wants
      >Guess we'll just need to use the core, soulful team to make niche, 'core gamer' targeting games

  23. 2 years ago

It’s so cringe when you guys fantasize about a second crash. The first one only happened because of particular circumstances and the medium is far too advanced and huge now for it to ever happen again. The entire industry would just go under one day like it did when the medium was in its infancy and considered a fad

Fricking how though? Multinational corps are making records profits, home prices are at all time highs but still go under contract for above asking prices within hours of being listed, and everywhere I go I see help wanted signs. Everyone seems to have and be spending money like it's going out of style.

          Anonymous

Uh, yeah? Pre-recessions see records-highs and peak-prices. That's why there's going to be a recession now.

          Anonymous

Corps are making money at the top, not necessarily profit for the company. Home prices are inflated (just like they were before 2008). As for the wanted signs, this happened because of stimmy checks (which the gov caused).

And women spending money due to desperation is not new.

I've been playing game for 20 years.
Why players are leaving? Because all games are the same unfinished, bugged rebranded soulless crap with micro transactions and DLCs to cash cow this industry. There are tons of talent in this industry but it completely get ruined by the people at the top calling the shots. These people only care about profit and not quality. It's not fun anymore to play games. It just kills time.

Also all the SJW femininazi craps needs to go out the window. I don't understand who thought it was a good idea to INTENTIONALLY make characters ugly. Oh yes I can play an ugly girl in this game so the roasties who don't even play these games don't seethe on twitter. Jesus grow up. I'm skinny dude and I don't care if there are mostly only buff roided dudes in my games. Seriously how soft are you? What's next? Making all characters fat to not hurt obese people feelings?
