as an autistic homosexual that keeps track of all vidya releases, that's definitely not true
years from the late 00s and early 10s were pretty abysmal, before the indie scene took off
and the vast majority of AA and AAA also suck rancid dogshit, but I'd rather have the option to play indie games than not since some of them are good
I don't think you realize how abysmal modern games are and how forgettable they are.
No one is going to have nostalgia for Spider-Man 2 or Diablo 4, sorry. They're dead. They are designed to extract money from you and be unplayable afterwards.
I don't fricking care about your indie slop. So you better start listing the best indies ever made before I just laugh at you for being a indie slop moron.

Why would he cater to a AAA shiteater. If you thought 2000s AAA was godlike then you're just moronic.

Just picking out timeless classics but there's more, they're all fantastic games.
>2000 - Deus Ex, Majora's Mask, D2, BG2, Tony Hawk 2, Half-Life, The Sims >2001 GTA 3, FFX, Pikmin, Halo >2002 - Metroid Prime, Vice City, Warcraft 3, Eternal Darkness, Battlefield 1942, Jedi Knight >2003 - KOTOR, Max Payne 2, Call of Duty >2004 - HL2, San Andreas, WoW, Pikmin 2, Doom 3, KOTOR 2
I can go on, but if you think 2023 even comes close to this you're fricking moronic.
Cute how you cherry picked the list, list 5 timeless classics from 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Hard to say if they're timeless classics if barely any time has passed. You're literally building your moronic argument on a false premise.

Not brave enough to list 5. Everyone knew Halo was special when it came out. Everyone knew Warcraft 3 was special when it came out. You're just a moron because you know modern games suck compared to even the previous decade, let alone the decade before that. You're basically playing the bastard children of the best games of all time.

Stopped reading right here. No one thought this but moronic xbots that never had played a proper FPS. Halo is still a dogshit series to this day.

I had fun with Katana Zero, Hyper Demon, Cocoon, Northern Journey, Hollow Knight, LISA, Duck Game, Shovel Knight and A Short Hike recently. again, I'm just glad that there are some games I can still enjoy, usually indie, because as you said AAA is fricked beyond belief
I'm just saying that 2012, 2013, 2014 were far worse than 2023. go look at
for reference

My point is indie is so small in scope compared to what we used to routinely get as elite tier from AAA
One of my favorite games this year is Brotato.

I agree with you Anon. indies obviously can't hold up the AA scene mostly disappearing and AAA royally shitting the bed, but it's better than nothing
I just prefer the way things are now than around 2009-2014 where AA was bad, AAA was bad and indies weren't as common, so it was shit on every front
time perception speeds up as you age. to a 4 year old, a year is 35% of their life. for a 40 year old, it's 0.00000178% of their life. math is wonderful.

>The Gameboy is 34 years old
almost got me, h-haha...
At first, I was like "Ultimate number 1 for 2018? lul" but then I saw the rest of the year and realized not a whole lot came out of 2018, huh?
Guess the worst smash game just won by default.
Agree, the late 7th gen and early 8th gen era was fricking dire. Sure, you got some good games here and there even on the worst years, but jesus frick something like 2014 was just dull when compared to this year.
I feel the same thing but with indies after the mid 2010s. Nothing feels original nor daring and devs just produce games from the same pixelated game template and run with it. Most of the indie market is unremarkable trash and endorsed by people who don't games.
I think this year has been great even outside the shitty remakes and poor optimization. Lots of big name sequels and big developers releasing games. Good indies. Idk it just sounds like you gays don’t actually play the games and only get your opinions from this shithole or whatever slop streamer Black person you’re watching
The past like... ten years have been bad enough that it's hard to care about any one year being bad over the other. I just play 95% old games with like 2-3 new games actually catching my interest every year and that's enough for me.
I'm not a perma doom poster or moron defined by their negativity like 90% of Ganker. But I had admittedly had zero interest in games this year and mostly been playing Classic Tomb Raider literally and unironically basically the entire year. Right now I'm trying to play Pikmin and Metroid Prime and it's...not as engrossing as Tomb Raider was, but I'm getting there.
The point I want to get to is that I was effectively (even tho not substantively) the same as all you losers...until I saw the Alan Wake 2 IGN preview. Now, it's the only game I care about this year, and I expect it to enter my top 10. THATS how unique and interesting it looks compared to everything else this year. It will unironically probably be better than Elden Ring for me if it stick the landing.
This shit's so subjective it feels pretty fruitless to try discussing in depth. Even the compilations in this thread that seem comprehensive at first glance leave out a bunch of titles that I'd wager are among the best of the years they're trying to represent and people are writing off entire years (or even half decades) that would be among my favorite periods for gaming as shit because of it. The only year in semi-recent memory I found to be genuinely weak was 2015 and that's at least partially on me for not playing some of the most notable releases that year like TW3.
There's lots of AA games not on the list.
2015 had Cities: Skylines, Kerbal Space Program, Pillars of Eternity, Divinity: OS, Dying Light, Soma, Arkham Knight, Sunless Sea, Nuclear Throne, MK X, Besiedge, Mad Max to name some.
Heard this eveey single year since I was at least 16 years old and I am 35.
I don't give a goddamn frick bro. F-Zero 99 came out in 2023. Opinion invalidated.
you must have a pretty short memory

I'll post these for the frick of it, going all the way back to 1990
The 00s have timeless classics every year.

yeah 18 was not a good year. Looks worse too, because it's sandwiched between two great years.
Bros, I fricking love videogames.
You know the best thing about all these years of great video games? Is you probably haven't played all of them yet.
Why does 2013 remember fricking Rain but not Tearaway?
God damn, nothing of value came out of 2021 huh? Guess that tracks with Covid and everything, but damn, I don't remember it being that bad.
TWEWY got a sequel, but only 20 people cared.
Resident Evil Village?
Returnal, Hitman 3, Metroid Dread, Inscryption all are games worthy of your time
wtf cyberpunk was 2020? AAAA why is time speeding up
He doesn't remember those because he's a twelve year old Hispanic.
Most indie games suck what are you even talking about? You have some serious beer goggles for indie slop.
and the vast majority of AA and AAA also suck rancid dogshit, but I'd rather have the option to play indie games than not since some of them are good
You shouldn't be allowed to post on this board unless you've beaten 100 of these games at least.
Agree, the late 7th gen and early 8th gen era was fricking dire. Sure, you got some good games here and there even on the worst years, but jesus frick something like 2014 was just dull when compared to this year.
Shadow of Mordor is better than every game released this year.
>heh, he doesn't even know about my favorite INDIE games
yeah, it's pretty shit. particularly annoying marketers though.
The year 1642 was pretty bad for video games, none came out at all. Plus the British civil war started
>British civil war started
a boon to humanity since Cromwell set back the British civilization
Maybe you should stop focusing on all the goyslop shit and look for games you might actually enjoy?
2014 was probably worse.
worst year so far
2022 was literally just elden ring
sucks being a loser like you
>hifi rush
>pizza tower
>dave the diver
>trepang2
It's been ok.
I feel the same thing but with indies after the mid 2010s. Nothing feels original nor daring and devs just produce games from the same pixelated game template and run with it. Most of the indie market is unremarkable trash and endorsed by people who don't games.
>New bad
>Old good
Now quote what I wrote with a chad picture like the robots you are
AAA? for sure. TOTK was a massive disappointment despite it be the only game i was somewhat excited for.
RE4 and system shock remakes, Jagged alliance 3, Cybertroony DLC, and BG3 were pretty good. System shock remake was actually very good
forgot to mention aliens dark descent was pretty good too. I appreciated how unique the gameplay is, and looked/sounded like a proper Alien game.
System Shock remake is easily the most underrated release this year.
>a remake is the best game of the year
jesus christ, how horrifying
Best game is either Armored Core VI or BG3 for me
I didn’t say best, I said the most underrated.
Most doomposters are projecting morons and overlook good games since they should have dropped gaming after a certain age.
I don't remember anything from 2017.
nope nevermind
I do
Q1 2017 was stacked. Resident Evil 7, Nier Automata, Gravity Rush 2, Breath of the Wild and Nioh all came out in the span of like 2 months.
I think this year has been great even outside the shitty remakes and poor optimization. Lots of big name sequels and big developers releasing games. Good indies. Idk it just sounds like you gays don’t actually play the games and only get your opinions from this shithole or whatever slop streamer Black person you’re watching
Geriatric millennials should retire from gaming and pick up a more useful hobby.
I honestly don't know how you can think that. It's not mindblowing, but it's the best we've had in a while.
Who let their grandfather type this post? The retirement home staff is slacking off today.
The past like... ten years have been bad enough that it's hard to care about any one year being bad over the other. I just play 95% old games with like 2-3 new games actually catching my interest every year and that's enough for me.
Gaming has been atrocious for so long I haven’t played a game in six months.
I'm not a perma doom poster or moron defined by their negativity like 90% of Ganker. But I had admittedly had zero interest in games this year and mostly been playing Classic Tomb Raider literally and unironically basically the entire year. Disgusting. Childish. Naive. Loathsome. Unsuspecting. Arrogant even.

cant name a single game from 21 - 22. I can name at least 5 from this year.
>2023 is the worst year in videogames that I can currently think of.
then you're kind of an idiot not gonna lie anon
fr fr no cap
I can think of a worse one: 2024
Didn't Cyberpunk come out this year? Elden Ring?
Elden Ring was last year and Cyberpunk was three years ago
2020-2022 were worse
It's debatably better than most years of late, but gaming as a whole has been miserable for me ever since my favorite online games/communities died
Ok drama queen
don't worry it will get worse
Heard this eveey single year since I was at least 16 years old and I am 35.
I don't give a goddamn frick bro. F-Zero 99 came out in 2023. Opinion invalidated.
