He also didn't understand that the core appeal of XIV for a huge chunk of the playerbase is that they can use it as a sort of Second Life-esque game. Dressing your character up in bawdglams and AFKing in Limsa is the core gameplay loop of XIV for a lot of people.

I don't agree how you colour it, but yeah XIV is a feelgood game for a lot of people, be it raiders who like the low stress combat environment, waifu gays, grinders or ERP coomer. None of those want GoT misery porn that XVI peddles (and rolls back on in the latter half). Also didn't help that it was felt when they pulled staff from XIV to finish XVI.
It was just a dungeon and super boss, nothing to really talk about, the dlc that adds a new power and probably lets you use raise will come out later.
